At first look, 1,200 on the first day sounds like an incredible amount. But it's not actually too bad (i.e too competitive) when you consider what the quality of many of those applications will be like, especially being submitted so quickly. I've worked in graduate recruitment for a very large employer and we used to receive about five times that number on the opening day. About 80% were culled at the first stage. Most of these just because they contained glaring errors and were shockingly written!
