I don't think they'll be marooned. I believe BASSA / UNITE have advised cabin crew to complete their scheduled trips before commencing strike action.

Desertia

I honestly don't know!

I guess it might be one of those things that's only testable in a tribunal, but we'd need an HR expert to tell us probably.

There is very little chance of the judge granting an injunction
I'm not so sure. Unite has manifestly misled its members on the length and timing of the strike asides balloting members who were bound to vote YES who were not going to be part of any industrial action.

Pied Pipers of Hamelin, the UNITE leaders are, taking their naive membership to the abyss. Hope they can swim

Pretty hard to complete scheduled trips back if the aircraft they were due to operate on has been stranded in LHR due to striking crew...

e.g. if a crew operate into JFK on the late afternoon (local) of the 21st and the aircraft then turn around with new crew and head back to LHR, arriving on the morning of the 22nd how are they going to operate a flight back on the evening (JFK time) of the 22nd if no aircraft have left London (IIRC there is only 1 BA nightstopping at JFK)? Or will they be refusing to operate on the 21st too?

Why would BA want to position crew home, if they are just going to strike? It would cause chaos afterwards as there would be no crew downroute to operate home. Sure they may want to bring crew back from high allowance places, but why bother bring a crew back from Bombay. Leave them there for Christmas on pennies a day. The Hotac is all paid in advance so no saving there.

Hotel Mode,

Presumably, the aircraft would also bring back the inbound passengers, so they wouldn't be positioning the crew home.

Lord Bracken,
Refusing to operate on the 21st, could see one being sacked faster than going on strike!

Strike ruled illegal. But who is going to book with BA now, knowing that the union will have another go in the near future?

How long are we safe?

My wife and kids are due to fly on the 28th! Will the Union pass another Ballot and begin a strike by then?? Is this just a short term victory?

Unite: "The decision is a disgraceful day for democracy".

Actually it isn't, because several million people think you 8,000 or 9,000 are a complete bunch of

Edit: Yes they intend to reballot.

So it won't happen until at least January 7th I would think.

Wait till BA have sued Unite to the heavens for damages first - they'll be able to claim a lot of compensation from this.
