Is there a chance militant unionists will call in sick and still disrupt some flights?
Sorry I'm being negative in this victory but trying to look at it from all possible angles

BA statement:

We are delighted for our customers that the threat of a Christmas strike has been lifted by the court.

It is a decision that will be welcomed by hundreds of thousands of families in the UK and around the world.

There was never any need for a strike and we hope that Unite will take this opportunity to reflect before deciding its next steps. We believe the public would want that too.

In recent days, we believe Unite has formed a better understanding of our position and of the ways in which we could move forward.

It has also become very clear that our customers do not believe that old-style trade union militancy is relevant to our efforts to move British Airways back toward profitability. Financial success is essential to build the kind of business our customers want and provide long-term opportunities for our staff.

mrangar,

Possible but unlikely. Since the last dispute, a new sickness policy has been introduced which would make it extremely difficult for that tactic to work without severe repercussions for the individuals concerned.

WW 1 - UNITED 0
Ah but Fincastle, your chances of getting 'morons' on your next flight have just increased by about 80%. Oh dear.

From November 14th.

The BA managers learn it all on pprune FIRST.

From pprune, 14th November
The Ballot - a technical issue
Whilst the detailed numbers are vague, there is a big technical issue about the ballot that BA managers will be keeping an eye on.

Bassa/Unite/Amicus have appalling membership records. There are approx 14,000 BA CC. Bassa's website claimes 11,000 members as a branch of Unite.

An earlier poster in this thread pointed out that they were getting Bassa stuff even though they were no longer in Bassa, and had left BA.

How many "ballot papers" sent to non-BA staff and non Unite members will enable BA to take the Union to court for running an unlawful ballot, especially when that ballot could cost BA rather a lot?
As has been said before, Unite cannot afford to "bet the union" on Bassa's admin.

As others have said - the only people to earn money from this dispute will be the lawyers

The judge can only rule on the legal aspects, she is not allowed to be influenced by the media or public opinion. If it is believed she was then Unite can appeal.

I think that a lot of cc staff will feel the retribution of BA management for quite some time. Better not make a mistake or get too many bad review forms. A lot of replacement crew available and happy to work in newfleet.

In fact, a judge is a human being. This is the same as people saying 'can be BA fire me legally?'. She is not allowed to rule based on emotion but can she? Yes!

Sadly myself & a couple of hundred other pilots won't have the chance to push trolleys at Christmas. That's probably for the best.

This has done huge damage to the image of cc. I suggest a mass resignation from bassa showing the public that trying to ruin Christmas for a million people was never your intention.

That's a powerful statement from BA. I suspect Malone's Muppet Show is getting a thrashing from the senior Comrades in Unite. F*cking wake up BASSA - we're dying, shortly to go on Life Support - get a grip, lead properly and contribute to our future off Life Support.

Fincastle - enjoy Capetown - you have my best wishes, thanks for your support.

Sue UNITE for every penny!

Why should I pay for it with a worse pension package, no pay-rise, further cuts etc.

I hope this bankrupts them.

Fume Event - I won't lower myself to laughing as I'm sure this DOES have some way to play out but I honestly think your re-ballot will not return that same "Yes" vote. A few of the kids have realised that they will actually HAVE to strike and that Willie won't just "take a message".

That's if Unite allow BASSA to re-ballot.

Right, I'm off to enjoy a glass of the bubbly stuff.

What will the atmosphere be like between the CC? Yes its a victory for BA, but at what cost to the CC in terms of being able to all work as a team to ensure the passengers safety and well being.

complaints about cabin crew

Expect passengers holding a grudge will likely be prone to file complaints at cabin crew with little provocation over the next few weeks.

New Ballot

If the union called for a new ballot, do you think the result would be the same?

Yes the judge can only rule on points of law. There was a deliberate attempt to issue and count false ballots. The fact it had no material effect on the overall outcome is not important, it was illegal and so the injunction was granted.

A chance for calmer heads to prevail now.
