Litebulbs,
Sorry having re read it I sounded a bit strong - but I have lots of friends still at BA and I am kinda worried that there interests are not being best served.
I really do wish you all the very best with it - it's a very sad situation to be in for you guys.

"Why would industrial action be illegal? It is not secondary action."
There are lots of reasons it could be deemed illegal ( e.g. counting irreularities, coersion - and I'm not suggesting either has or will take place) and someone will be looking for evidence. Willie has at his disposal a legal team that will look into every aspect of how BASSA and the Reps conducted themselves before any vote took place.
As Freddielaker has rightly said the lawyers may well insist on disclosure of all the Reps e-mails and any forum postings, with real indentities divulged.
Having seen and heard about the pressure the BALPA reps were under around the time of the Open Skies court case if the gloves come off the BASSA Reps will be in for a similarly very unpleasant time.

I must say that this thread is simply amazing, I wish some of the posts could be copied and pasted on the ba forum where any attempt to criticise the union is usually interpreted as sign of treason and predictable personalised criticism and ridicule.

The BBC are reporting that BA made a first quarter loss of £148Million. Last year BA made a profit of £37Million in the first quarter last year. Even if things from here on run only as badly as last year, they are course for a loss this year of £512Million.
Perhaps the cooler heads in UNITE etc will look at these figures and finally understand that changed T&Cs are better than striking and no T&Cs. People on the dole queue pay no union dues.
A phoenix from the ashes of BA will not have anything like the same T&Cs that current staff are on. Nor is there likely to be anything like as many staff, the most militant staff being the last to be reemployed.
Now is the time to go back to the negotiating table and really negotiate, with properly costed suggestions, rather than the nonsense figures plucked from the air that have been used by BASSA so far.

When will BASSA start acting for the long-term good of its members?
The quarterly figures released today by our employer show the dire strait the airline is in. It mirrors the results for the rest of the industry.
I have heard colleagues say such things as "I would rather see the company go bust than change anything", and "the job won't be worth doing if they lower the pay".
Well, leave then.
BASSA cannot even see that by removing the Sandwiches from short-haul flights, the number of required crew has instantly been reduced. They cannot see threats, and they cannot project a way forward to a solution.
I would like BASSA to negotiate a settlement with BA. As one of the contibutors to The Times said today......"Would you prefer 80% of a cup of tea, or no cup of tea?" "Would you prefer 80% of your pay, or no pay?".
Personally I would accept a reduction in my pay. Yes I would have to alter the term of my mortgage, but paying it off more slowly, is better than not being able to pay it at all !!!!
By not effectively negotiating a settlement, BASSA are allowing our employer to very carefully ensure that they can legally impose change via "SOSR" (Some Other Substantial Reason). And unless they negotiate now, BASSA will have NO way of stopping the imposition of new contracts.
How very disappointing.

Poor financial results today, but share price up? Interesting article.

I'm so tired of all this now, that I'm even considering starting up my own union. A union that listen to its members, negotiates effectively and tells the truth at all times.
Anyone with me? I will need a few reps...

Excellent! Thanks folks, you've got the job!
Now I've just got to figure out how to do this... Any ideas, please pm me (so we don't clog up the thread with this).
I have a few ideas, will keep researching.

Bealine said: "Speaking for myself, I always have, and always will, love my job and, whilst I do love British Airways, I cannot afford to continue for £11000 a year though, so if the Trades Unions call us out and it brings the company down, it doesn't matter as far as I am concerned! (....and so say 99% of my colleagues.)"
Each time I get on a plane, people who are fed up of the militancy and the "just say no" attitude and are now starting to make their voices heard. There is a growing army out there who won't speak out on forums due to the harrassment and bullying but who will definitely vote against any strike action.
So, dream on Bealine. This company ain't for crumbling.
Now, back to business - GG - good to speak to you by pm the other day. Definitely up for starting our own union, or at the very least the campaign we spoke out. Any BALPA reps interested in passing on some tips please?
So, who else is up for saving our company?

Quote; i'm a gold card holder and fly them regularly, recently there wasn't even a readable magazine available in the Gatwick 1st class lounge. Now more cutbacks announced, Walsh should have been fired after the T5 fiasco. Can't see them surviving if they pull it to bits.
We have to be careful not to damage the product to much.. There's cost cutting and there's damaging a world famous brand.
