Desertia, that is the reason I expect WW wanting to go the Swissair route.

Yes Henk,

"The airline and trustees will now work together to develop a recovery plan, a process which will involve the company consulting with employees and their trade unions," British Airways said in a statement.
Doesn't imbue one with confidence given BASSA's track record, does it?

New Union

Presumably one of the first rules of the new union will be that none of the previous representatives will be allowed to stand for office?

These reps have proved themselves to be inadequate and ineffective (as well as untrustworthy, unaccountable, untruthful etc etc) and as such should be absolutely barred from holding positions of responsibility in the new union.....at the moment I think it's fair to say that BASSA has been shown to be nothing but a barrel of bad apples.....how important then not to let even one of these bad apples infect the fresh new barrel.

Although it has served some peoples' agendas over the years to sling mud at the pilots' union and to deride BALPAs progressive, pragmatic and inclusive approach to industrial representation, surely it would make sense to look at how BALPA formulated, perpetuated and demonstrated this open, transparent and accountable trade union?

Maybe, just maybe, the new CC union would take the olive branch of 'working together' on some issues that BALPA have frequently offered to BASSA in the past, but that has (for now obvious reasons) always been slapped away?

Rather than doing what they did at the last pension negotiations (nil research, nil input and then just cut-and-pasting pilot proposals), these two unions could work together? We ARE all employees in the same company and we DO all have pensions that are affected by the prosperity of the company and the success of future (by june2010) pension negotiations..... Call me crazy!

p.s. watch how quickly BASSA try to snake out of the strike! My money's on a full-on face-saving offensive, starting in.....ONE HOUR FIFTEEN MINUTES!! "Oh, noooooooo......BA's evil lawyers found a loop-hole mistake on the ballot paper! SHAAAAME, no strike!".....hope WW doesn't let BASSA off that easily

So the first thing your new union would do is do away with the basic principles of democracy?

Just kidding.

1hr 40 minutes and counting. Well, till the injunction process begins. I would not be surprised if BA has a judge on standby.

Apparently SKY News says it's a YES.
What a sad day, I'm devastated!

As BA cabin crew, the above is my personal view and not my employer's.

That does not mean a strike is imminent though. It just means that the majority of the voters (which is not necessarily the majority of the cc) have voted for action. What they do with this "mandate" is not yet decided and we also do not know how BA will respond.

No surprise frankly. The surprise will be if enough are prepared to walk the walk.

I Echo HF,

No one on here expected anything but a vote in favour. What we all want to hear are the magic numbers and then if Unite have allowed BASSA to actually name the date......

Then there will be the fun of if BA decides to get a court injunction, and if not, how many actually have the balls to walk.

Today was only ever going to be mildly interesting; it's not the end of the game.... If Wille resigns today (As the 100% BASSA crowd would love), I will publicly eat my car, metal plastic and all! (for Charity of course!)

edit - to correct spelling and general typos from having fat fingers.

Once again, I find myself embarrassed to admit that I am cabin crew at BA. I can't say what I really want to say, in regards to those that have led crew down this path, as no doubt it would lead to an instant ban.

If what Sky are reporting is correct, then to our passengers, I'm sorry.

henkybaby,

You're probably correct. Look at the number of crew that have said they are only voting yes to "scare" Willie into giving them what they want! How deluded can you get?

But that won't make any difference to those that have booked to travel with us. They are going to be making alternative arrangements immediately, if they haven't already. Who is going to book with us now? Strike or no strike, the damage is done.

I am now truly scared for the future of BA.

The Yes vote is no surprise, but the numbers involved might be.

The key will be how many voted Yes compared to how many cabin crew there are.

Dear JetSet Lady. Do not underestimate your customers. I have bookings on BA in the next few weeks for which alternatives are available. Most of them on Hi-J's which still have excellent service, despite CSDs now having to work. I do not intend to rebook because I do not want to give in to the unions who apparently are striking to protect customer service.

Let's remember that all of these yes votes were obtained by BASSA scaring up their members to "send Willie Walsh a message"! So they've sent their message. Whoop de doo.

Let's just repeat what the man said this morning shall we:
"Though the union may be bent on self-destruction, I will not allow British Airways to be pulled under too."
BASSA are always trying to use a military theme to characterise their actions as a "battle".

They would do well to remember the Battle of Balaklava

I guess we now see how many really didn't get it.

Ah well, lets await the injunction.

BA have at least 7 days to do that, don't they?

BASSA's got to play its hand right now.

Edited: It has.

Good luck!
