Congratulations

Hei,

Parabens and welcome to Dubai .
I loved your message, thanks for all details regarding the assessment day in Rio. Do you mind if I ask just some more details about the English test? I'm not a native speaker and that's why I'm a little bit afraid, what should I study?

Thanks and sorry to bother you again.

Best wishes

The assessment day was long and more stressful than I originally anticipated. We had to be there at 8:30 sharp and we waited around for a while for some late comers (even though they said they wouldnt allow people who came late to enter) I guess there were 20 no-shows, which is the most the one recruiter said she ever saw. So there was a lot less competition for us, which is always good. hehe. At around 9:30 or so we finally got started. The recruiters were two women, Marina from Australia and Sally from Britain, they were wonderful, very kind and friendly. They made the day enjoyable, at least. We started off by watching a movie that the crew had made and then they asked us if we had any questions. Lots of people had questions, so that part lasted a while. After that, we were all given a reference number.

After that, we had the first round of group activities. There were about 40 of us in total and we were split into two groups by our reference numbers. Then we had to talk to the person on our left and find out there favorite travel destination, favorite past-time and their most embarassing moment. Then we had to talk to the person on our right and tell them our answers to the same questions. From there, everyone introduced the person on their left. After that we had another group activity. We were told we had to choose three people to nominate for the Nobel Peace Prize and we couldnt vote, we had to figure it out as a group. My group worked really well together and we came up with three in no time - there was no arguing and we all agreed on all points. Then I had to present at the end. They seemed to be looking for those who spoke and listened at the same time and worked well in the team, rather than actually paying attention to your answers. However, I remember one girl specifically who never said a word and she continued on. I think they mostly eliminated people for their English skills, to be honest, if they couldnt speak well enough. On thing I thought was interesting is that alllllllllllll the girls except me crossed their legs, which I read on here was a big no-no. It didnt seem to have any negative effect on their success.

After that, we were asked to leave the room. When we returned, they told us that they were sorry if we had to leave and not to ask them any questions. At the back of the room, they had letters laid out on a table with everyones reference number and we picked them up and had to read whether we made it or not outside. We said goodbye to those who werent successful and those who made it through went back into the room.

After that we had the English test. I already wrote a post about it with more details. I cant say if the test was hard or easy, as I am a native speaker. But two people failed, and the girl was surprised that only 2 failed. It really weeds people out, so they say. The company has high standards for English. I dont mean that to scare you, just make sure you take some extra classes in the few weeks before the assessment day. We were given an hour to do the test and could leave for lunch if we finished early. They gave us a half hour for lunch -- There was no food provided, we left the hotel and all ate together at a restaurant.

When we returned, we were again told to get our letters from the back of the room and say goodbye to those who were unsuccessful. When we got back into the room, we were split up into groups of 5 and 6. My group had to come up with the five most important qualities we would be looking for if we had to recruit 10 people to work in a video game, childrenīs restaurant. We worked together well and came up with those five qualities fairly easily. From there, they asked us to decide on how we would figure out whether the candidates had those skills or not. And then we had to say how else we would eliminate people if we had 150 eligible candidates with all our five skills and we only needed ten employees.

After that, we left the room again for about 15 minutes and then we came back and another 2 people were eliminated. We then were told that we had made it through to the final interview. We chose our times for the final interview and she gave us a little booklet with some forms to fill out and explanations about what we needed to wear, bring, etc to the interview. That took another hour or so, I imagine. It felt like forever. Then we all wrote the Psychometric exam, which is exactly how people have said it was -- Like 180 questions or something, 170 of them questions about your personality, no right or wrong answer, and 10-15 questions based on figuring out patterns, etc, with a right answer.

After that, we were free to go and that was it! I have my final interview on Friday so I cant say too much about that yet. Lets just say my fingers are crossed and so are my husbands, since he managed to make it through to the end with me, believe it or not. I still cant believe we both made it through!

When to reapply

holopo, i did my final interview on 27th july 2006 in london but the lucky isnt on my side --as yet!
not to worry about yours. if you read again the forum, the longer you wait, the bigger possibility you'll get the job keep us informed with the progress ok?

now, back to me ;p
i've got a few queries and would appreciate everyones help.

Dear Mr. ,

Further to your recent interview for the post of Cabin Crew with our organization, it is with considerable regret that I have to advise you that your application was unsuccessful on this occasion.
Should you still be interested in pursuing your interest with Emirates Airline, you can re-apply after a period of one year.
We would nevertheless like to thank you for attending the interview programme, and wish you every success with your future endeavors.

Yours sincerely,
Cabin Crew Recruitment

while below is taken from their website http://www.emiratesgroupcareers.com/..._LINK_MENU_EN1

Those not making it through the initial screening process may reapply after 6 months.

my questions are:

1) is it actually 6 months or 1 year? i hope anyone who has had the experience would be able to provide the correct info.

2) i also read in the forum that it would be better not to mention that we have attended the final interview before. is this rite? i thought the recruitment team would be the same person --jessica and erika/london?

3) learnt from a friend who is currently working for ek that a few possibilities for my refusal are (they are not facts --just opinion):
age (i am male, about to become 27 this year)
nationality (we are having difficulties to get us visa --thus our flight destination is limited compared to other from diff countries)
over qualified (i worked in service industry a few years ago + hold degree in hospitality management, but the last few years i've been working in a different field - senior managerial position - salary better than ek cc).
i know they must have their own reasons not to take me on board but cannot help myself to wonder whether any of the above may be true.

thank you for your response!

cheers,
sammy

Hello sammy,

Iīm not to sure.... but I think once youīve made up to the final stage you can only reapply after one year.

But if you havenīt even made it through the first 3 rounds ( so not up to the final interview) you can reapply after 6 months.

Good luck and all the best.

References

Hey guys,

Does anyone know if they check your references? Do they call or email? Do they check the ones who wrote the letters or do they call the ones you write on the one sheet you have to fill out?

Do they research the companies and confirm your employment and everything with them in a different manner than simply speaking with the person specified? I just ask because I am not on the employment records with one of my employers, who is the owner of a very small company, who wrote the letters because he privately contracts and sends teachers into businesses, but doesnt actually keep a file with all my details and everything.

I have been kind of worried about that, if anyone could put my mind at rest, it would be greaaaaatly appreciated!

Thanks so much!

Michaelsen

Hey Michaelsen,

With regards to the English test, it is kind of difficult to tell you what to study because I am sure they give a different test every time. But in general, make sure you can read well and have good comprehension. Also, practice your writing and since I had signs and everything on my test, try doing some research on things that various signs say to be prepared. Thats kind of difficult to prepare for though, so I would say to focus on reading comprehension and writing.

Good luck!! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

just wondering

hello everybody .. i'm new in this forum and would like to ask a couple of questions ...
here goes .. if you apply in the emirates website for a spot in the global assessment day how soon do they contact you? how many weeks after you submit your application and receiving the acknowledgement email from emirates? I am aware that they visit my country every 2 months and a local agency is involve. do emirates choose the candidates or the local agency? should I apply in the local agency also? it is said in the acknowledgement email that if they don't contact you in 3 months, consider your application unsuccessful .. can anybody share to me what I should highlight in my resume so at least i can be invited? I know that there are plenty applying for the job in my country .. I have more than 5 years of customer service experience and i'm currently employed in a very reputable multinational company ..
Thanks for your time guys, hope to receive answers from you..
Cheers
Ivy

Smile hello

hi Ivy,
lemmi try to answer your questions though am just an EK wonnabe!

1. I think EK will get back to you as soon when they will be visiting your area, sometimes it may takes weeks, other times it may take months!

2. I think you should apply at your local agency so that they will inform you whenever EK are about to come to your area, then you might also get some tips from them!!!!

3.Maybe the agency short-lists for EK............you may need to confirm this.

4. About doing anything to your c.v, just apply and with a well organised cv showing all your experience and qualifications,i guess with 5 yrs experience, they would want to invite you..........................all i say is,just try...................u never know!

hope i've atleast assisted in a way???

Hi Guys!

I understand that EK crew are entitled 8 days off a month, but was wondering if your roster actually has more than this when you get it, or is it only 8 allocated?

Cheers

In a 30 day month you are supposed to have at least 8 days off and in a 31 day month you are supposed to have 9 days off. If you have done a lot of flying hours for a few months you will be likely to get more days off, as legally, you are not supposed to exceed 900 flying hours in 12 months. Example: I was A340-500 crew so I did alot of ultra long haul flights which resulted in alot of flying hours in a short period of time which meant, luckily for me, I usually ended up with between 12 & 16 days off a month

reapply and such

me again.

popins, thank you for your info. so i guess (and i hope!) age doesnt really matter. definitely will try again. the next problem is that i am not too sure whether i have to wait for 6 months or 1 year. still waiting for more advice from you guys.

katrin, thank you for your info. i'm gonna throw the questions once again, in a hope that i would get more response this time

1) is it actually 6 months or 1 year? i hope anyone who has had the experience would be able to provide the correct info.

2) i also read in the forum that it would be better not to mention that we have attended the final interview before. is this rite? i thought the recruitment team would be the same person --jessica and erika/london?

3) learnt from a friend who is currently working for ek that a few possibilities for my refusal are (they are not facts --just opinion):
age (i am male, about to become 27 this year)
nationality (we are having difficulties to get us visa --thus our flight destination is limited compared to other from diff countries)
over qualified (i worked in service industry a few years ago + hold degree in hospitality management, but the last few years i've been working in a different field - senior managerial position - salary better than ek cc).

thanks again for all your great assistance.

cheers,

I hear Bright Star Tower, near the clinic and will be completed end of September.... so i hear on the grapevine

Its a bit on its own there especially if you are new... until they build Starbucks nearby.

Sammy, if this helps...

Hey Sammy, I dont know the answers to all of your questions, but I will help out the best I can.

1) If you did the final interview, it is ONE year. Not six months. On the paper that I received at the end of the final assessment day regarding the final interview, it says that it is necessary to wait one year. If you dont make it to the final interview, its six months.

2) I think that they will find out either way and if you lie, I think you will even be worse off. Maybe you will make it through to the final interview again, but as soon as they send your file off to Dubai, they will figure out that you didnt wait a full year and you will be denied.

3) They hire people up to the age of 35, so I doubt your age was a problem. As for your country of origin, that probably wouldnt be a problem either or they wouldnt be recruiting there, but thats just my opinion. I dont know if they wouldnt hire you due to being overqualified.

I hope that helps a little. Good luck with everything.

Majority of the occupants in the building are cabin crew. There are however a few people (some with families) who stay in the same buildings as crew that work for EK in other departments. Some pilots also stay in the same buildings as crew.

I don't think it's strange at all living with your colleagues as they soon become your friends and you establish a social life outside of work. If for some reason you don't get on with the people you are placed with, you have the option of moving. After your 6 month probationary period you also have the option of moving out of company accomodation into private accomodation that you find for yourself. You will be given an allowance for this (not much though).

I was cabin crew with EK for 4 years but left recently to return to the UK. Did 4 years with Gulf Air before that so decided that 8 years in the Middle East was enough & it was time to leave. There's definitely no place like home .

Wink EK Bird

HI, EkBird!

I'm wondering which is better- appartment provided by the company or allowence? Do you have any idea how much is the allowence? What is the condition of the appartments, are they nice?

Second- about maternity..If married and you are you get pregnant within you 3-year contract, what is the situation? Can you go back after this?

Thank you, Ek bird!

And good luck in UK! I used to live in London for sometime, and I like it very much..
