Wink Thanks!

Thank you , everybody!!!!

I'm doing my med test here in Bulgaria, as it cheaper. Some of the vaccinations you can do it in Dubai, but I really prefer here. It is a bunch of examinations and vaccinations ....

But deserves it , believe me!

Waiting for your good news too!!!

Rio de Janeiro Assessment Day - July 15/06

Hi everyone!!

This message board helped me out soooo much when I was preparing myself for the assessment day so I thought I would share my own experience with you all and hopefully help someone else in return. If you have any questions, let me know!

The assessment day was long and more stressful than I originally anticipated. We had to be there at 8:30 sharp and we waited around for a while for some late comers (even though they said they wouldnt allow people who came late to enter) I guess there were 20 no-shows, which is the most the one recruiter said she ever saw. So there was a lot less competition for us, which is always good. hehe. At around 9:30 or so we finally got started. The recruiters were two women, Marina from Australia and Sally from Britain, they were wonderful, very kind and friendly. They made the day enjoyable, at least. We started off by watching a movie that the crew had made and then they asked us if we had any questions. Lots of people had questions, so that part lasted a while. After that, we were all given a reference number.

After that, we had the first round of group activities. There were about 40 of us in total and we were split into two groups by our reference numbers. Then we had to talk to the person on our left and find out there favorite travel destination, favorite past-time and their most embarassing moment. Then we had to talk to the person on our right and tell them our answers to the same questions. From there, everyone introduced the person on their left. After that we had another group activity. We were told we had to choose three people to nominate for the Nobel Peace Prize and we couldnt vote, we had to figure it out as a group. My group worked really well together and we came up with three in no time - there was no arguing and we all agreed on all points. Then I had to present at the end. They seemed to be looking for those who spoke and listened at the same time and worked well in the team, rather than actually paying attention to your answers. However, I remember one girl specifically who never said a word and she continued on. I think they mostly eliminated people for their English skills, to be honest, if they couldnt speak well enough. On thing I thought was interesting is that alllllllllllll the girls except me crossed their legs, which I read on here was a big no-no. It didnt seem to have any negative effect on their success.

After that, we were asked to leave the room. When we returned, they told us that they were sorry if we had to leave and not to ask them any questions. At the back of the room, they had letters laid out on a table with everyones reference number and we picked them up and had to read whether we made it or not outside. We said goodbye to those who werent successful and those who made it through went back into the room.

After that we had the English test. I already wrote a post about it with more details. I cant say if the test was hard or easy, as I am a native speaker. But two people failed, and the girl was surprised that only 2 failed. It really weeds people out, so they say. The company has high standards for English. I dont mean that to scare you, just make sure you take some extra classes in the few weeks before the assessment day. We were given an hour to do the test and could leave for lunch if we finished early. They gave us a half hour for lunch -- There was no food provided, we left the hotel and all ate together at a restaurant.

When we returned, we were again told to get our letters from the back of the room and say goodbye to those who were unsuccessful. When we got back into the room, we were split up into groups of 5 and 6. My group had to come up with the five most important qualities we would be looking for if we had to recruit 10 people to work in a video game, childrenīs restaurant. We worked together well and came up with those five qualities fairly easily. From there, they asked us to decide on how we would figure out whether the candidates had those skills or not. And then we had to say how else we would eliminate people if we had 150 eligible candidates with all our five skills and we only needed ten employees.

After that, we left the room again for about 15 minutes and then we came back and another 2 people were eliminated. We then were told that we had made it through to the final interview. We chose our times for the final interview and she gave us a little booklet with some forms to fill out and explanations about what we needed to wear, bring, etc to the interview. That took another hour or so, I imagine. It felt like forever. Then we all wrote the Psychometric exam, which is exactly how people have said it was -- Like 180 questions or something, 170 of them questions about your personality, no right or wrong answer, and 10-15 questions based on figuring out patterns, etc, with a right answer.

After that, we were free to go and that was it! I have my final interview on Friday so I cant say too much about that yet. Lets just say my fingers are crossed and so are my husbands, since he managed to make it through to the end with me, believe it or not. I still cant believe we both made it through!

Hi,there! Congrats!

As I have past most of my application process , I can say that I dont believe that people are being eliminated after their final interview, unless they didnt like something on the final.

But dont worry! Now, just wait and be patient! That is...wait like 4-5-6 weeks before you hear from them.

If you dont- just call them.!!!

Good luck!

Nervous

Alright...well I am nervous, very nervous about the interview tomorrow. Thanks for that information though -- Its nice to know that people are receiving their phone calls so quickly. They told us its an average of two weeks that people normally have to wait after the final interview. I will let you know how it goes!

but not to worry (he he, i am saying this to myself actually!), i will def give another try next year (said can reapply after a year) and hopefully i'll be able to join elly and semangeline next year

thanks again for all your support and all the info you've been sharing in this forum.

hi pramugara

hello,
How are you?well, you might not have made it this time but soon enough,we will all be wearing the red barret and the cream scruff around it!

There are people on this thread who have attended two final interviews only to make it through on their 3rd final interview......i.e. craig1510(the gal gave me hope).Well,i hope it will not take us that long but i have attended two global assessment days and not made it through,i hope to attend another before the end of this year and i pray that atleast in January,i will be leaving for Dubai.

Not to worry,we will make it through very soon!!!

All the best to those waiting for results and those going for interviews.

Pets

Hey everyone! I was just wondering if anyone has ever brought a pet to Dubai. My recruiters werent actually sure if pets were allowed to live in company quarters, one said yes, one said no. Has anyone brought the dog there? What do you suggest? Do you have enough time to even take care of the dog?

Also, how does Emirates take care of sending your things over to Dubai? Do you get the normal two suitcases and thats it or do they allow you to bring over an excess of luggage as you are moving there?

Thanks, in advance, if any of you are able to help me out with this.

Not too sure what the official company line is here....
But...
Lots of crew have pets... My building has Cats, Dogs, one Tortoise and a Snake.

It's really up to you to talk to your flatmate/s when you arrive if they mind you bringing your pet over. Even if they did not agree, you could find a different flatmate thats ok.

Also looking after pets whilst away... No problem.. Everyone seems to pool togther, and if ya friends happen to be away there are really good Kenals too.

Hey guys,

I'm thinking of going to the open day in Stockholm 3rd of September. That would require travelling and spending some money for flights, hotel etc. And the problem is I could not stay there longer than for that one day. If I would get invited to the final interview, do you know if it would be possible to take that later? I could travel to some other place for that then...

Reference Letters

I gave my final interview about 12 days back. After 4 days I got a call from EK asking me to send them my reference letters. I told them that I was told during the interview that they were needed only when I got a confirmation that I have cleared the interview. Anyways they said until I give them the reference letters my application will be on hold.
In the meantime they have sent out a few rejections emails. They started informing people to go for medicals after 1 week itself. Now most of these people had completed their paper work like reference letters etc before they went for the finals.
I managed to send in my stuff today only. And now I am not sure what to expect. We were 5 people remaining in my group after the last group discussion (1 guy and 4 girls). Out of this the guy got the rejection email within the first week and the other 3 girls have got the go ahead for the medicals. I am the only one remaining and this wait is making me very nervous.

I'm still waiting for my call....since I have past my final in London. I have contacted them, but need another 2 weeks.. so patience...

Guys, never give up. I think that is EK psychology test..that make us waiting, so once you get the job, you are really happy, pleased and willing to work hard!
So, good luck to everybody!!!

And hope to see you in Dubai!!!

Elly
Hehe, did she also tell you that she probably is working as an SFS(Senior flight stewardess) or purser and if you are an SFS or purser you get a single person flat and that you get the best accomodation Emirates can offer???

It takes you at least 3 years to be an SFS and even longer to be a purser and before that, you are either gr2(grade 2 working in economy), gr1(grade 1 working in business or FG1(working in first class)......

In those first couple of years you get the ****ty appartments.... Emirates has a few buildings where the standard is good and some other where the standard is OK. In most of the buildings the standard is like they had to build more buildings in a couple of days so everything looks like that as well - sterile and cheap... The "normal" emirates accomodation is quite poor and looks really bad.

Well for some people it might look really nice but for me...well, I complained about it and I know lots of people who did the same. The answer you get is just "oh, we are aware of it but the managers approved the builiding..." Hmm..... So I would probably also be happy with my single appartment if I was a senior and could choose myself and actually get one of the nice flats.... :-)

So please guys, do not expect a 150 squaremeter flat with nice furnitures and good standard - the chances you get one of those appartments is almost 0! ...

Hi mate,

I did my interviews in Stockholm.... They expect you to be able to be there for at least 3-4 days.... If you can't, don't even bother to show. It's the first thing they say when you go there..... I is different in different cities but that's how it is in Stockhom.....

I didn't even count on getting to the next stage so I had to buy new tie before attending the following day... Everything, all the interviews i Stockholm, including final interview, are being done in these 3-4 days....

how long should one wait?

hey!

i thought you could give me some advice...
i've passed through the final interview, and they asked
me to do my medicals. i did everything and sent the
documents 2 months ago, and now i'm waiting for their reply.
i emailed them asking how it is going, and they told me to wait..
i'm getting nervous. i would be so happy to know whether i'm in!
if i'm not, then i've to start to look for a job...
iif i get in, then i'll fly in 2 months, so maybe that is why ther are not in hurry...?
what do you think?
