emirates
I can't seem to find this on the other emirates' posts, but can someone tell me, does emirates hire people that are 21?
I've heard the minimum age is 21, does anyone out there know people that have been hired at 21 or they themselves have worked for them at this age. I am 20 and would like to work for them.... but have to wait awhile....

Clearly outlined in their criteria.. 21 yrs is the min. I havent heard of people being hired at 20, but then again anything can be a miracle. Benchmarks in companies is very important..When ur 21 u can apply. No need to rush. All good things come to those who wait..
Take care.

Hi everyone!
I'm attending my final interview with EK this week and I'm absolutely petrified! I passed the group stage back in April and it's been torture having to wait so long for the one-2-one!
I had my photos taken by a professional photographer, and although it cost a bit more (around £40) I think it's definately worth it. As someone else said, the final decision is made by someone in Dubai who has never met you and you NEED to look your best!
Although I don't want to be over-prepared, as I think it's so important to be yourself at these interviews, I just wondered if any of you ppruners had any pointers for what to expect at the final interview day? I know that they have psychometric tests for some random candidates but I'm just wondering what sort of areas they cover in their questioning?
I'd really appreciate any advice!!! THANKS!
KTP xx
PS Yasmine83, well done, I knew you'd get it!!

Just a little insight as to why Emirates takes so long to get to you..
At the end of the financial year, the Group employed 22,500 people – an increase of 4,000 or 22 per cent over last year. This represented an average weekly hiring of 77 new employees – and a mere fraction of the staggering 5,000 job applications received weekly on average by the Group. The total of 265,000 applications received during the past financial year represented an increase of 29 per cent over the previous one.
5000??? Do you beleive that per week. Hmm.. Well I suppose its not all Cabin crew, but I high percentage would be.. So people dont be soooooo dissapointed if they dont get back to you on time.
Patience patience patience

First Steps after getting the job with EK (Emirates)
Hi everybody!
I´ve just called EK and got the job as Cabin Crew after 5 weeks of my final interview.
I would appreciate some advice, personal experience, info about the training course (5 weeks), what goes on after the training, what kind of routes do you fly at the begining (short or long ones?), accomodations during training and in EK appartments, living in Dubai (cost of living, how muche money do you need per day in Dubai) and every important detail.
Thanks and happy landings ,
Airgus.-

First Steps after getting the job with EK (Emirates)
Hello Airgus,
Sorry I cannot help you with your questions but maybe you could help me; a friend of mine would be interested in applying for a flight attendant job in EK.
As with you, he would be starting from scratch and is asking me about the initial salary and the evolution during the first few years.
Many thanks.

Hearing tests and Emirates
Okay so I just finished my final interview and am waiting for the word as to whether I fly to Dubai. One thing they didn't ask about and has never been a problem is any handicaps. I am deaf in one ear.
Now I always have been this way so no balance problems or anything associated with partial hearing loss. Naturally - as many of you who might know someone with a similar condition will attest - it is barely noticeable and certainly no handicap. I have flown many times around the world and can hear fine in an airplane cabin, even during take off/ landing.
But if I get the job, I have to fly to Dubai with audiogram results - which will highlight this 'handicap' on paper. At some point, they'll see the numbers and ask "what?"
Here's what the GCAA medical notes say about the other measure of hearing fitness:
4.0 Hearing Check
4.1 ...applicants with a hearing loss....may be declared fit provided that:
* The applicant has a hearing performance in each ear separately equivalent to that of a normal person, against a background noise that will simulate the masking properties of flight deck noise upon speech and beacon signals (Pilots only???)
* The applicant has the ability to hear an average conversation voice in a quiet room using both ears at a distance of 2 meters (6 feet) from the examiner, with the back turned to the examiner.
I presume the latter is for F/A which I would pass easily. As I said I have normal hearing under almost all conditions and you wouldn't notice until we got to a noisy discotheque and I told you to shout into my good side.
I went thru a lot to get as far as the final interview and believe I have a shot. It's a big career change for me and I really want to be an F/A. My plan if I get hired is to turn up with the results, start training as normal and if anyone questions the paperwork, ask them to spot check my hearing under normal conditions as above or under cabin-noise simulation, just to be sure. All I have to do is talk to people, so I figure it will be alright.
I'd be devestated if they want to send me back and I'd be willing to dig my heels in and say, "Well I got this far..."
Do you guys think I'll get busted out of the program for this? If they offer me the job, should I save myself the trouble (give up the one dream I have!) and decline to join Emirates?

Finished final interview at 31
I was picked up in HK after a year of waiting (thank you SARS and Mr. Bush!) for preliminary selection and did my final interview just last weekend. Due to a schedule clash I missed it in HK, so ended up showing my dedication by flying all the way to BKK. Now I'm waiting...waiting...waiting...for that phone call that could change my life.
I'm a tall handsome caucasian (if slightly immodest) straight, bilingual and well-travelled. However I am 31 in a few months and my age worries me. despite this I look a few years younger (no hard booze or smoking, quite athletic).
Do you think that if I made it as far as the final interview, then I'm the type of guy they're looking for despite my age?

EK
UClimb, I think the starting salary is around 1000 usd /month plus a flying pay (per hour) of 12-15 usd, and around 70 hour per month that means 850 usd more.
so we can say 1800.
B78, I had to wait for 4 weeks and then I was allowed to call Dubai, I guess if you do not pass the final interview they are gonna call you during those 4 weeks, so do not be scared.

I was never really sure about how much money Emirates were paying but that money doesn't seem very much. I get the feeling that BA and QF staff earn more? Is it just me or is the fact that reduced living expenses and tax free income allow crew to earn more then QF/BA etc?
