Just decided I would apply after all and the closing date was today!!

I have put in my online application this evening, but I don't know if I'm too late.

I suppose a 6 month temp contract is better than nothing and probably worth giving up the other job for??

hi from ba

its only for 6 months but who knows....its a pity they are doing this because there are people waiting for all these years and here come a few from outside to steal or dignity...our rights....its not fair...my advice leave emirates for shorthaul even if your not happy...the average is 1600 but of course there u have accomodation and all that, i know i used to work for qr but, it is better to be happy with less than momentarily happy with more! thanks and good luck

N.B. Plans at BA can and do change at short notice!! Last year's new entrants had signed up to join BA at LHR on shorthaul; 2 weeks into their course, they were told they were going to LGW longhaul....

With that in mind, the plan is for the 6 month entrants to go straight on to longhaul. The reason is to alleviate a shortage of crew on the worldwide fleet (747s etc.) that is likely to occur this summer.

I flew with a CSD a few weeks back that was involved in recruitment. She informed me that as far as they knew, 6 month entrants were due to be TERMINATED after their 6 months were up...

Now, she also mentioned the fact that that could change between now and the end of summer 2006....the bottom line is that no one at BA (including recruiters) really knows what is going to happen to the new entrants at the moment.

It's a risk those of you wanting to join BA are just going to have to take. Sounds harsh, but it's the truth.

If you want my opinion, I'd sign up anyway. This is BA, and it's likely they'll need more crew in the near future - though you'll have to accept a transfer to LGW if that is what happens after your 6 months is up (it's got to be better than being terminated...)

Good luck!

Now come on. This has been done to death not only here, but on the Bassa forum and on Crewcom. The company have a perfectly valid reason for doing recruitment directly in to Worldwide Heathrow. They've pointed this out in Cabin Crew News. There aren't the resources to do double-training at the moment AND with the closure of Gatwick Mainline, there aren't enough spaces at Worldwide Heathrow to accommodate all of the Gatwick transfers AND transfers from Eurofleet.

Exactly. It wouldn't surprise me if any 6-monthers were offered a move to Gatwick Singlefleet at the end of their six months. They'd have built up experience on the Triple Seven and could take it to Gatwick with them.

Just heard this afternoon that I have an assessment next Monday afternoon.

Yikes!!

I know I applied last minute but I didn't expect to have to go that soon. Haven't got anything to wear and hardly any time in the next few days to do anything about it.

Anyone else going that day?

Update

First 2 courses picked from the 6 months temps will go to shorthaul LHR...remainder will go to longhaul LHR, but will NOT operate long-range routes and will NOT be trained on the 767. That means you won't be doing longhaul routes on the 767, and at the end of the 6 months you are highly likely to get xferred to LGW which is basically 777 and 747, no 76.

Could change but that's the latest...

Hey Vincente, I sent you a PM regarding your other questions. Forgot about the Leaving Cert thing. I have another friend who has just been offered an interview with BA. She failed Ordinary Level Maths in the Leaving Cert and still for an interview, I would be very surprised if they would offer her an interview if they knew she failed form her application so I wouldnt worry too much!!!

Don't quote me but I'd assume that it would be a months notice just the same as permanent employees as your rosters would run one month ahead and should you leave then arrangements would have to be made for your remaining work.

I also find it unlikely you will be dumped after 6 months, the likelyhood is that you will end up at LGW on midfleet. Which will be no bad thing, as I will be there to greet you! And I promise you it will be fun.

You could always ring BA and ask by the way.

Guys I don't want to be the person that brings bad news, but the first thing they do at the interview is they receive you and then ask you if you have your degree, A levels (or whatever your highest qualification is) with you. They take them and make copies. A guy on my interview didn't have his as they were in his mum's house in scotland and they sent him home!!!! I saw it with my own eyes, couldn't believe it!!
Anyway good luck! All is possible in BA (really, I still get surprised in good and in bad). Those who know maths not necessarily have the human skills to be cabin crew.....

flybywire....when were you at the BA interview?
I had mine on the 31st of Jan this year and there was no single word mentioned about any school / educational certificates. In the invitation e-mail no request was mentioned about bringing them to the assessment...
