Hi my mate who works in recruitment for BA said that all the courses are full for now until JAN but as you'll find out with BA they move the goalposts all the time so you could be lucky, but its poss if you get a course for next year to ask if you can move to an earlier course and they can put you on a waitlist if anybody else drops out.

I was interviewed 5th October, told I had the job on the 7th October...but that I won't be on a course till January or possibly February. Has anybody else interviewed in October been given any dates yet?

ba cabin crew heathrow

Hi guys, i didnt have a c in gsce maths, i had a d and still got the job as Ba Cabin crew. I am training at heathrow on the 6th december. is anyone on that course too? im struggling to find accomodation. does anyone have any ideas? id like to share with other cabin crew, preferably on the same course as me. comon guys there has to be someone...anyone...????

Hey guys, i am starting training for BA cabin crew on the 6th december at heathrow. is anyone else on this course? am currently living in cumbria and am wanting to have a house share with fellow BA cabin crew, people on the same training course as me! anyone help?

BA recruitment

Hi
I am thinking of applying for cabin crew and just wondered if anyone can help with grades and qualifications. What grade do your Maths and English have to be. I sat mine in the long distance past of the 80's and they are O Levels and CSE's.

I also have a Diploma in Business is this ok as it was pre NVQ?

was under the impression they had to be grade c's or above but one of the replies above says they got a d and got in.

Hi there,
I have just got a job at british airways as air cabin crew eurofleet, i was also worried that i didnt have the right qualifications, they wanted you to have a GNVQ in tourism or at least 1years customer service and a pass in english and maths. most people think this is a C in gcse level, but i had a D in maths but still got in. a bit of advice, they are more interested in your personality so i really shouldnt worry if you dont think you have the qualifications. i didnt have all the qualifications, i still applied and they still offered me the job!

I start my training on the 21st Feb - does anybody else?

I'm really excited and can't wait to start!! Although I'm not looking forward to the task of trying to find accom again!

Hi guys,

Hope some of you can answer my questions as I'm totally torn as to whether I can start my BA course in February and really need some answers and help from you!:

- realsitically how much monthly (i.e. rent etc) can you live at LHR for?

- again, realistically what kind of take home pay can you expect monthly from BA?

-how fast do you move up the payscale? how fast is promotion?

-Is anyone else here starting early Feb???

-are the crew mostly fun to work with?

PLEASE HELP!!!

Hi BAL

There are no precise answers to your questions, but I'll give you some figures to think about;

- rent around LHR area will be around £300 at least, bills may be extra. The area around LHR isn't that nice to be honest, with Windsor being the only notable exception. It's definitely worth coming down to have a look. Don't worry too much, you'll find someone to look with during your training course.

- take home pay varies a lot, depending on what your roster looks like. If you're not flying that much, you may only take home around £1200/1300. But on a busy month, and having opted for some overtime duties, some people are taking home £2000. I average around £1500/month which is not bad for a job I love.

- promotion-wise, nothing is set in stone when you work for an airline...that goes for everything really! At the moment, promotion is more rapid than it has ever been at BA, since loads of people are retiring. By "rapid", we're talking 3-4 years to Purser, although this may lengthen; a lot of people don't think it's enough, but that's because in the olden days it took three times longer to become a SCCM at BA. How fast you move up the payscale depends on your status i.e. whether you're main crew or SCCM; bear in mind you'll join on the 'new' contract, so you'll never earn as much as the grey-haired CSD's that joined 20 or 30 years ago!

- 95% of the crew are very easy-going and fun to fly with. The great thing about BA is that you get all sorts - from ex-flyers to novice flyers to people who hold Masters degrees. There's something for everyone, and most people enjoy work. That leaves 5% who spend most of the time moaning and being negative, don't like the changes since they joined, or simply outright weirdos - thankfully there are relatively few!

I hope I've given you an accurate and balanced view of what you can expect.

Let me say this; as far as airlines go, it's definitely one of the UK's better companies in terms of job satisfaction. Modesty aside, it's GREAT! You're gonna love it. Nice uniform, mostly nice pax, great crew and some fab nightstops not to mention the great staff concessions.

you've really helped my make my mind up there mate, so thanks for your advice! I'd be a 4th year rejoiner if I went back to my current company next month, promtion to SCC there takes at the minute about 8-10 years, therefore 3-4 years to make purser is phenominal as far as I'm concerned. Also we are trreated as second class citizens even though we've worked for the company for 4/5 years and I've had about as much of that as I can take. My take home on charter isn't bad at about £1200-1300 a month, but that was in the summer when I've worked my butt off, so average of £1500 monthly sounds ok to me!

Hi.
I am from Spain and have worked as FA/CC with Spanair and LTE/Volar Airlines.
I was interested in applying to BA, but am a bit confused about the divisions.
A friend told me that there are two divisions that function independently:
(1) EuroGatwick
and
(2) Main Line
and that once you join the first one, you cannot change to the main line because it works as a separate company, plus EuroGatwick pays much worse than mainline. Nevertheless he said that MainLine was divided into three divisions too:
(a) EuroFleet
(b) Gatwick LongHaul
(c) Heathrow LongHaul
and that within MainLine, you can change divisions, though you generally start off in eurofleet for some years before you change to longhaul.
Can anyone tell me if this is correct?
At present the BA jobs site is recruiting for EuroFleet. Is that the main line then?

What follows is an imperfect but hopefully a correct response:

There is no more 'eurogatwick'.

All shorthaul flying is now known as 'Eurofleet' (EUF). You have EUF at LGW, and EUF at LHR.

'Mainline' refers to those staff under the 'main'/original BA contract. All EUF LHR and longhaul crew at BOTH airports are on the mainline contract.

Only EUF LGW crews are under a DIFFERENT contract, and yes, it is much LESS than everyone else. That's because EUF LGW was formed from the ashes of Dan-Air (an ex-airline!), and BA decided to preserve the (less expensive) labour conditions from this ex-Airline.

EUF LGW is basically a SUBSIDIARY company, with different terms and conditions for cabin crew. EUF LGW crews are paid on an hourly basis, and work 4 sectors a day, whereas their mainline colleagues at LHR usually only fly 2 sectors a day and get paid more because they are not paid hourly, but under a different system.

Maybe the difference is irrelevant to you, but if you have a choice, it would be wise to avoid LGW, as you will not be on a great contract compared to your collegues at LHR....


And just to add a little more complication, longhaul flying at LGW 'mainline' will now be merged with EUF LGW, so now ALL crew at LGW will be flying both short and longhaul, but on a similar hourly contract.

In other words, avoid LGW completely...

What I think is happening is that management are desperate to reduce employee costs, and because of strong union reps at LHR, they are introducing new (poorer) working conditions at LGW first....I am pretty certain that sooner or later, they will attempt the same at LHR

is euf lhr worth it then? is it where one would start off at lhr?

Hi prat

It really depends what kind of flying you want to do, and how much you would be willing to earn for the work.

If you fancy doing a mixture of longhaul and shorthaul flying without waiting for about 2-3 years, and are not overly concerned about exactly how much money you will earn, then maybe Gatwick is for you.

I don't know exact average figures, but I've heard from ex-LGW EUF crew (now at EUF LHR), that take-home pay was about £1200-1300/month, but that you worked very hard for that money. This puts EUF LGW salary in line with virtually all other LGW-based (and other) UK airlines.

At Heathrow (EUF) you can expect to earn more than this, £1500 in an average month, or more if you request overtime or have a busy roster.

In answer to your question, YES EUF LHR is certainly worth it - better money, more nightstops and the opportunity to fly longhaul in the future (you need to put your name down on a list, but only when the list comes out; I'm not really sure how the system works).

At LHR, you start on shorthaul, but this is a very nice and relaxed style of flying!
