Hey there!!!

Oh best of luck! I'm sure you will be fine! Just relax and be yourself, the day is really enjoyable.

I know it's hard to not have nerves for the interview, but they do make you feel at ease. I feel like they do assess you from the moment you step into the room....so grooming must be impeccable, and also they watch how you interact with all other applicants....so work the room...but not in an over-the-top way!

Firstly, you will have a private interview with one of the interviewers. Questions I got asked were in regards to working to a deadline or under pressure, dealing with an unsatisfied customer, your adaptability and flexibility to changes....to name a few, so have some examples ready. If you are successful in the morning session, you will be asked back for another one-on-one in the afternoon! The questions were almost the same, just with another recruiter!

When I went through, we sat in groups of 10 and they got us to introduce ourselves to one another. They wanted us to give reasons why we want to work with Jetstar. Make sure you give a really 'different', clever answer! They want people with great personality, so try and steer clear from 'I like people, customer service and travel' because that is what they here nearly every day!

We then were given little scenarios to work through as a team. What they are looking for is that as a team player you are contributing, but at the same time listening and relating to everyone also in a supportive way...it's not so much the answers to the questions or scenarios that they are interested in. Next you will do a small written exam...this is to see your comprehension of what's being asked of you and also attention to detail.

Most importantly however be yourself! Being authentic speaks louder than anything!

Best of luck! xxx

oh...and my assessment day was three weeks ago! The wait is killing me One of my references has been called...so hopefully it shouldn't be too much longer! xx

Thanks so much for your help and the day went exactly as you described! Except I didn't make it to the second part of the day...

I felt like I did ok in the presentation and the group activities but not in the quiz. I took my time answering the questions so I'd get them right but didn't manage to answer them all as maths was never my strong point!

This was my first assessment day so I'll keep trying

Do you know how long before you can reapply with Jetstar?

Keep me posted on your progress too Good luck!

i think you can reapply after 6 months. I didn't make it past the group interviews either. I was quite surprised considering i made it past to interviews in other much better airlines i.e Virgin

the maths questions really stumped me. 10 minutes to answer a double sided sheet?. Seriously? i can answer all correctly. I needed time and some scrap paper to work it out. 10 minutes is just considered "Reading" Time in exam conditions.

in one of the maths question, why do we need to know what 30% of a credit card purchase of 622 or something is? Thats what a calculator is for. Seriously. We cant all be a maths whiz

working at a cash register for over 10 years. i never had to add stuff in my head, thats what the register is for. Also i dont know how it is on board, but i have seen cabin crew using calculators to add things up, so i thought the test was pointless.

Maths isnt my strong suit. If anything i will fail a maths test. Yet i have a double university degree. Go figure.

yes I totally agree! I thought I'd take my time to answer the questions and hadn't even got to the second page and the guy says 'right, one minute left!' like seriously!! I have always used a register or calculator too and have survived this far!

It's such a long process now, having to wait 6 months now before I can reapply!

Good luck with everything and thanks for your help! I feel much better knowing I wasn't the only one

Oh thats a shame girls! Don't stop trying though, I think its pretty difficult to know what they are looking for on the day! My first airline interview was with Virgin and I didn't make a final interview...a week later I was interviewed by Emirates and I made it all the way. I am waiting to find out the result! Same with Jetstar. I actually found out that I made it! I start ground school at the end of August.

That test is pretty tricky ey! Its super stressful, because you're not thinking straight as it is! Haha i love maths but I battled working out the first two questions...10 minutes is MUCH too short! I had maths equations on my sheet!!! Plus, if you lapse concentration for a split second...its really hard to get the questions on the back right too!

Definitely keep trying. I think Jetstar is 6 months...but try some others in the meantime. Rex, Tiger, Qantas, Qantas link...even Cobham i've heard is quite good! I'm sure after some practice you will be fine!

Best of luck!

re-applying

Please note: If you have been unsuccessful in any Jetstar or Team Jetstar Cabin Crew selection process (International or Domestic), you must allow 12 months from your last interview date to pass prior to reapplying.

O'k, it's worth noting for all the applicants out there, the questions are not designed to catch you out!! They are not questions requiring you to do long division or algebra!

They are generally simple.

I'd hazard a guess that 'elrehab' has made a simple mistake, and is making the whole process seem harder.

It is unlikely to be harder than "Joe buys 3 sandwiches at $4.00 each and hands you a $20 - what change do you give him?"

They are not looking for RAINMAN!

have you done the test ozangel? i did not say the task was hard. Only that we needed MORE TIME!!

As a trained teacher, i'd give my students at least 30 minutes to work it out as you need to cater for all learning types and you need to allow people the time to THINK! I have designed such tasts before so i have the authority to speak on this matter. the first question starts off as you say about the sandwiches and the change and then it gets complex. i make my assumptions here as a teacher and having a look at the task, its grade 6 standard, but it required more time.

in 10 minutes they want you buzzing like rainmain to do it. I'd say it would be easy for people who are fabulous at maths and numbers. Everyone's learning style is different, some thrive in exam conditions, others don't. so don't judge.

ozangel,

you are correct in saying that they are not looking for rainman and the questions are relatively simple but I just needed time to actually work them out considering I have relied on a calculator/excel/register for the last 10 years after leaving school.

This was my first assessment day so wasn't actually aware of what the test would involve and the assessor did not even mention how long we had (many other people, even the ones that made it through noted this also). I just wanted to ensure I didn't rush it and wanted to get my head around the questions. I agree with elrehab, more time would have been great!

Would it be plausible to say the assessors would have watched our reactions when they said '1 minute left' to see how well we reacted to stress as well? I know people got through that didn't get to answer all of their questions. Just a thought...

Well I'm not complaining anyway, it was a learning day for me and although I didn't get through, I have certainly learnt quite a lot from it and know what to do/not to do for the next assessment day I attend, with whomever that might be!

And congrats to travelbug2011! Well done!

great answer flyingkat85

i would also like to say anybody who's worked in customer service from 5 years onwards are more than capable of handling pressure. im getting sick of saying the same thing over and over in interviews. i feel like saying "come to my workplace and i'll show you what pressure i handle"

Having been through a few interviews this year, i highly note that some airlines are image based. honestly as a customer, i dont care how you look like as long as i feel safe on board. I am somewhat dismayed when really young people are chosen to become cabin crew over someone with years and years of experience in other jobs. As a passenger i want a mature cabin crew with life experience as my flight attendant.

Now tiger airways may get a bad rap, but i honestly can't wait to start training with them. i feel they are one of the airlines that look at your life experience in choosing cabin crew and the asessment sessions are very comfortable. Im very impressed with them even if i didnt make it through, i would say Tiger is the best in the way they conduct interviews.. Virgin , well they come across as having poles up their ass. very pompous i've been to their interview and i swear they spent more time writing down stuff i said, than actually trying to chat to me and know me as a person. it was a harsh and a cold experience. And my experience with jetstar, well, they are trying to become 'elite'...i sense the snobbyness. I also didnt like the fact they bagged other airlines especially Tiger. In poor taste might i add.

at the end of the day, its all a performance. to get a job, you gotta be able to put on an act. you can be the greatest person ever, but still not make it. theres a lot of luck involved. with some cabin crew i've met, some have been great, some bad. its just the way it is.

well its been an interesting experience overall. emirates and etihad, im interested in next.

If you liked Tiger interview from what my daughter said you should like Etihad. My daughter worked for Tiger and loved it but had a chance to have interview with Etihad and got selected. Their interview, although all day was relaxed and friendly. She is now working for Etihad but has said she would come back to Tiger if she wanted to keep working in that field. She also had same impression about Virgin although it was a few years ago she interviewed with them and she thought they were changing their process but sounds as though they have gone back to the old ways. Good Luck for the future.

Jetstar/Altara Melb

Hi guys

Just wondering if anyone is going/has been to the Jetstar/Altara interviews for Melbourne dual base this week? I'm going tomorrow & impatient to know what they say! I know that a Melb GS started this week and someone said they're starting in late Aug, so are planes being delivered or something so that lots of staff are needed, or will in be a case of being placed in a hold pool for ages?

I haven't been to an airline interview since Oct 08 (when I was placed in Virgins hold pool, but they cut back on staff around then, so no GS's went through before my 6 months in the pool expired).
A bit nervous about it, especially seeing as I'm not experienced in the field and I imagine there will be a fair few Tiger staff there.

Any feedback appreciated!

Melbourne Altara interview

Went to the interview for casual CC Jetstar/Altara today.

Started off with about 60 people, they got us down to 17 for the afternoon session.
With three days of interviews this week, and one GS to fill for Sept 17, I'm hoping that I manage to be one of the lucky one in three to get through!!

With such a short time before GS starts, hopefully they do get back to us within the two weeks with a yes/no!

Hi Melbgirl,

From what they said last week, casual is very much the way that airlines are going, they said full time contracts are usually offered to Altara staff as they know how dedicated that are/sick days/if they're on time etc.

I use maths a fair bit in my current role and study, so I was ok, but it's things like change from $20 if a guest buys two items. Fairly basic percentage (30% of 622 - 10% is 62.20, so x 3 for 30%). Also some Aus geography. Plenty of people didn't finish it, but some of those were invited back. Just be quick & it is multiple choice.

MAM has interviews in Melb next week. They may well be full, but maybe apply if you haven't already?

Good luck

Hi all,
I am trying really hard and doing all I can to become a flight attendant and it'd be a dream come true if I ever get a position anywhere as one. Any help or advice apart from applying, any updates on who is actually hiring would be great.
Any body who knows someone who does work for a company that will be able to work some wonders. I do not think I have ever wanted something more in my life and it seems unreachable......help?

Dy1ing to fly, just a quick question!
On the 25th of July i received my email from Altara resources for C/C position and was awaiting my invitation for the Assessment day and noticing the dates on your previous posts, i feel like i may have missed out? or would this be another round of interviews?

education

Qualifications to become a flight attendantEducation
Virtually every airline requires that you have a high school degree or Government Equivalency Degree (G.E.D.) If you did not finish high school or have not passed the G.E.D., do not bother to apply for a job as a flight attendant. You absolutely won't get hired without a high school degree (or equivalent).

This is what I found on a website and up till now I thought i was in the green...I have a year 11 equivalent and a cert III in Hospitality, since i have not finished high school ....is this true? do i not bother applying?

Hi Travelbug, I just received an email from Altara saying I was successful from my little internet application - can you give me a heads up of what happens from here? That would be great!

Thanks
