Hey guys
Has any of you checked out MAM? Its Qantas mainline casual. And you get guranteed hours along with great pay. Their still hiring in all the capital cities. Double check your altara/jetstar contract if your going to be one of their casuals. I believe that there is no guarantee of any hours and that at slow times you dont earn much.
For those of you that have been successful, Good luck with ground school-it can be pretty hard

Jetstar and MAM are virtually the same.
I went for Qantas before Jetstar...there's only a few dollars(..2, i think) difference for airport reserve and Jetstar casuals don't get any flight/leave benefits whereas the Qantas casuals get 2 free flights per year plus one month annual leave(I think that's right)
The flying rate of pay was the same..(I think...)

Also Jetstar training is unpaid for 4 weeks with a $1000 bonus when training is completed as opposed to Qantas where the training F/A are paid $500 per week over 8 weeks

Hahaha...sorry for doing this in bits and pieces....i keep on remembering things!
With the hours - you can select "low, medium or high hours" each month and you are guaranteed whatever amount of hours in those brackets.

Jet*
NO guarantee of hours, you can nominate as many days as you like per month doesn't mean you'LL get a shift. You can earn good money when you fly, not many overnights - MAM casuals fare alot better than Altara casuals, having just left J* and now with MAM I don't regret the move.
GOOD LUCK

JacintaMerri thanks for all the info! I got an email from Altara/Jetstar saying that I've made it to the assessment day stage for Melbourne next year, but they don't have dates yet and it could be some weeks/months. They are advertising on seek, so maybe the recruitment days are not too far away?

Only one of my references were contacted - within the first week!
But i wasn't contacted until more than a month after the interview....so that was stressful.
They said at the interview that if you don't hear in 2-3 weeks, assume that you have been unsuccessful....so you can imagine my surprise when i got the Golden Call.
I was literally screaming in excitement!

Thanks Jacinta.
I have given up all hope, so will likely apply again in a few months after I complete my First Aid.
I did have a strange number call me today and I remember on the AD we were contacted mobile via mobile. I missed the call unfortunately but they didn't call back, or leave a message.
My ref's assured me they would let me know if they had been contacted so possibly it was a wrong number

The new hours system hasn't started yet(...I believe) - it was approved a few days before my interview (24/11) and that's the only reason why i know about it

Call back!!! You never know if it's them...they may be wanting to see if you take the initiative to call. I like to cover all my bases :P
And definitely get your first aid before applying again...I remember at the Qantas interview, saying that they were only going to take people who had all the necessary documents and the people without them would have to wait.
I think that's the reason i didn't a position with Qantas - I aced the interviews, all my refs were contacted but i didn't have my first aid or RSA to get me further along in the process.
