Jetstar Sydney
hi Charlotte86
Congrats!! Did you get a phone call to your mobile or home phone?
I have been at home last 2 days and my home phone rang three times but I dont normally answer the house phone as lots of calls are sales and etc...
If you they need to talk to me then they would ring my mobile.
but yeah this action is quite intersting for me too...
Keep me updated!!

Jetstar Jobs
Hi jet2010,
thanks! They contacted me on my mobile (I don't have a home phone). I'm assuming that whatever number you placed on your application is the method of contact that they would use.
I spoke to a friend of mine who was also on hold for syd, but she has not been contacted regarding a job offer. (She didn't place Melbourne as a preference at the interview, whereas I did, so that could be a factor)
Which base did you apply for? Were you at the December RD?
Fingers crossed you hear something soon!

HI
Is anyone able to answer my question please??? I have an assessment day coming up!
I was wondering do flight attendants need arrive 90min prior to flight departure or prior to check-in??
Also on assessment day, do we need to know the flight codes (usually there are 3 ie. AUS)
and..if anyone has been on assessment days before, can anyone give me an example on the type of questions asked on the pen and paper general knowledge test??
thank you

Jetstar NZ
Can anyone applying for Jetstar in New Zealand tell me about the Responsible Service of Alcohol certificate?
Do we still need it for the NZ base? I've googled it, and only found Australian websites. Or is it called something else in NZ?
I notice that Jetstar NZ ask you to bring along the certificate to the assessment day (or proof that you are enrolled) but Jetconnect and Pacific Blue (in New Zealand) don't, they only ask for the First aid Certificate.
Can anyone shed some light on this?

hey i have an interview next week and it said that there will be a pen and paper general knowledge test. I was just wondering exactly what they meant by general knowlege is that like current affairs and the news or more of an IQ type test..

Hey because JQ is an Australian Airline operating australian registred aircrafts you need an RSA which is an Australian requirement, even if you are based in NZ. You don't actually need to have it at the time of the assessment but you need to show proof of enrollment. Same applies if you want to go with Jetconnect.
Trust that answers your question.
Cheers

Your sign on time is either - cold start (first flights of the day) 1 hour before flight DEPARTURE. OR if its any other time during the day its 45mins. So you basically have 15 minutes approx to get to aircraft, brief, do checks and then you start boarding. If that helps? though i dont think you will need to know that at the interview... thats more insider info haha.
Good to brush up on your airport codes especially knowing that BNK is ballina and BKK is bangkok (these get confused sometimes) and AVV avalon etc but you have to learn all these before your ground school as well as phonetic alphabet and the usual aviation lingo
General knowledge test, they will ask some 24hour time, some basic maths questions, MAYBE an airport code question (cant remember) and some jetstar specific questions. You will be given a map and will have to place on it some of the destinations jetstar fly's to ie townsville, avalon, melbourne (doesnt have to be exact on the map but you have to be able to show avalon is to the left of melbourne) if you do a bit of research on their website read the "about us" look at the aircraft they fly and just familiarize yourself with the company.
Goodluck

I've been on active hold for Syd domestic full time since I went for the interview in December last year. I'd pretty much written it off, I'd heard they weren't recruiting any fulltimers, the only way in was casual etc etc etc.. but last night got a call offering me a position to start training in November! I'm so shocked and excited!!!

raptor1 is it for Sydney or Melbourne?
I knew they would need A LOT of new people due to extra 45 flights starting out of syd & mel by december.
Congrats, we're hoping they will offer a few fulltime positions to the casuals as well

It's for SYD base. I'm over the moon!
It would make sense to offer casuals positions. Perhaps they'll take everyone who's on hold, then the other spots go to casuals? Who knows, Jetstar are very secretive haha.

Can someone please confirm that ground school is now only 3 weeks???!
Can't believe it if that is true. I did 6 weeks for Virgin Blue and could not imagine learning all that I did to meet CASA requirements in half the time (and we even did 12 hour sessions with many sessions ending at 3AM in the morning).

bubblyguy - I can't answer your question, but I just thought i'd comment...
6 Weeks is a long time for training... As far as EPs go - at most airlines you really only spend 1-2 weeks on EPs (as is the case at VB, QF, and a few others I know of personally).
The remainder of the training comes down to service, grooming etc. It's not unreasonable for the duration to be commensurate to the airlines business model (i.e 6 weeks for Qantas is reasonable, 2-3 weeks for a regional/low cost airline is 'reasonable').
Yes - there's a lot of information to absorb, especially when people are new to the industry - however it's not 'rocket surgery' - and the pressure to perform is a good way of weeding out those who may not be able to handle the more challenging situations that can/do arise in the cabin e.g irate pax, time pressures, and to a lesser extent emergencies (predicting how anyone will perform in a genuine emergency is virtually impossible).
In the past at some smaller airlines, you'd be sent a pre-ground school study pack - it was not uncommon to be handed an exam on day one of training - with the company expecting you to have learnt the alphabet, port codes, and other menial stuff that can take up to half a week of face to face time in training.

ozangel, Thanks for your reply
I actually came from ground crew so knew a lot coming from there and only 2 days were boring to me as I was on top of all the content already that was covered on those 2 days (actually knew more as ground crew specialise more on the areas discussed on those days). We were also provided with a pre course booklet to do with port codes, basics of the aircrafts, etc etc.
The first four weeks covered communication, safety equipment and EPs. Fifth week was security training, aviation medicine, live fire fighting etc. Last week was all our service and products.
Normally Virgin is only 5 weeks but we did get an extra week as we were trained on all aircraft types (not just Boeing as normal groups are) and also international operations.
Still 3 weeks to me... Scary lol. Would be very intense I'm sure.
