Red face Jetstar Casuals

i am currently JQ cabin crew and what i have heard and have been for a while is that the agency recruiting have been told to employ casuals only, they are not offering full time at all, in fact they are trying to get rid of all full timers especially those on the original eba ( ie not team jetstar)

all those on active hold for full time will eventually be told they will need to reapply like virgin did about a year ago. hence having to go through screening again (if offered an interview in the first place)

sorry guys but getting in is tough, the casual conditions are awful but it is the way of the future (hiring casuals)

if you really want to fly then id source out other options like strategic etc there are many other jobs flying out there apart from JQ

good luck

Altara SYDNEY

To everyone wanting to know about casual for Sydney base!
I received this email today after I emailed an enquiry, this is some of what they said.

"We will be sending out invitations next week, please keep an eye out on your emails"

So for all the people who received a congrats email after applying with Altara, we should receive an invitation next week.

Hope this helps.

Thumbs up Pay and Conditions - Altara.

Hi Folks,
I am a QCCA longhaul flight attendant and wondering what the pay is per hour with Altara? Has anyone started with Altara yet and can you shed any light on what it's like in terms of daily flying and weekly pay. Are there lots of home reserve or airport reserves?
Thanks in advance.

Hi ethan,

Pay is - $20.55 per hour + $10.45 block hours (flying hours) + commission from onboard sales (i got about $100 this month)
Its monthly pay and you get it 3 weeks after month end.
Flying throughout the month is varied you might have 6 days on then a whole week off, or you might get 3 days on 1 day off etc. There is no pattern. You either get 2 sectors or 4 sectors ranging from 4 hours - 11 hours a day. No rostered overnights. Airport standby's are paid the ground hourly rate. Home standby is paid 1/4 (3 hours pay for 12 hour standby). Hours were crap in the beginning (average 50-60), now its more like 90-100+ which is good, but you can alter that amount to what you want if you want less. I usually get about 1 airport standby a month, and 1 perth flight (Back of clock flying). and anything from 2-8 home standby's.

Hope that helps

Hey KK,

Just a quick question, does casuals do international flights or just domestic?

There is alot going on throughout Jetstar and they are having a huge influx of new crew because of the new A330's coming in.
I believe the new services from SIN-MEL and SIN-AKL will be operated with 3K (Jetstar Asia) crews.

With Hiring and going onto full time, If your a casual and they are hiring for "Team Jetstar" then they will recruit some from Altara and some from an open day.. It would be silly if they werent to hire casual crew into team jetstar as they are already trained on the two main aircrafts for Domestic

Avalon Flying Duties

Sorry if I am covering old ground. This thread dates back to 2007 and I couldn't see the answer in the more recent posts.

Do Jetstar roster Altara Cabin Crew flying duties from Avalon Airport?

If yes, can you bid to have your flying duties out of Melbourne Airport instead?

Not to sure if you can bid for tulla, however I know you can do a shift swap with another altara employee

Hi,
I spoke to the recruitment team last week via email and they told me that they don't have any full time position at the moment. They are hiring through altara which is an external agency... They are recruiting in BNE, SYD and MEL...

I have been invited for an afternoon tea early august for Altara with Jetstar recruitment team. Do you know what happens in those afternoon teas or morning teas ?

Do you know what kind of questions they ask ???
I have been waiting for so long that I don't want to miss out.

Thanks for helping me getting ready for this last interview...
