Burg bei Magdeburg ?

nvubu 9th Jul 2019 20:45

Sorry misread your previous as east OF Germany

So it is EAST OF Germany and not IN Germany

dook 9th Jul 2019 21:03

No probs - I'll start again.

It was no to Poland so maybe what was Czechoslovakia.

nvubu 9th Jul 2019 21:52

Not in Czechoslovakia

sycamore 9th Jul 2019 22:50

Still visible on GE...? Est.,Lat,Lit,Kalin????
Bit of drift;today I went for a partial airtest in a JP5,with an ex-qwi(WIWOL)...
Between the 3 of us(him,me and JP) we had 190 yrs total ages/flying yrs 152/ 100yrs (him and I),and 30400 hrs flying(3 of us)...

nvubu 10th Jul 2019 06:28

It is still a very active airfield, but not in any of those locations..

Ramp still present and extended and is now for Terminal 1.

OK - Not pacific War, but East of germany, WW2 - that's still a big area

might have been near the German/Russian front at one time but not when pic taken

Still in use with at least 2 terminals - busy

I'm starting to think maybe St Petersburg? None of the Moscow airports look quite right.............

nvubu 10th Jul 2019 07:47

Was an Axis Airport.

Asturias56 10th Jul 2019 08:03

Bratislava?

dook 10th Jul 2019 08:46

Budapest Ferihegy maybe.

JENKINS 10th Jul 2019 09:48

If, Sycamore, it was a proper JP5, add me to that list In thought if not deed.

Anyone looked at Roumania?.

Asturias56 10th Jul 2019 10:14

Don't think any airport in Romania has 2 terminals.....................

dook 10th Jul 2019 10:22

No, but Budapest does, as in my suggested airfield above.

As an edit I should say Ferihegy #1 airfield.

nvubu 10th Jul 2019 12:16

dook has it with Budapest Ferihegy - the allies had is as Vecses. Wasn't very old when it was bombed - less than a year?

Unintentional link to the previous challenge

designer, who was one of the originators of modern Hungarian architectural art, dreamt of a building which resembled an aircraft from the top-side view.

sycamore 10th Jul 2019 13:15

Jenks, yes a 4 originally then had nose job to become the first 5..new paint job and 260 at 85% ...claimed .05 IMC looping into cloudbase.... ! Our mutual friend at Thx would be proud of his old `warhorse`....

dook 10th Jul 2019 14:44

I don't know why nobody else looked at Hungary for the last one.

Asturias56 10th Jul 2019 15:34

I did but I just couldn't see any resemblance between the pictures from 75 years ago and the modern airport - God knows I use it often enough............

Now this challenge - I've seen this in the last month... but where?????????????????????????

Assuming N to top a prevailing W or SW wind from the rubber - and closely spaced small parking - so fighters?

dook 10th Jul 2019 15:57

I found it on a site dedicated to Hungary in WW2. One photo showed the whole airfield and the ramp looked exactly like the one posted by nvubu.

The present photo is north orientated and the airfield was mainly fighters.

nvubu 10th Jul 2019 17:15

The ramp in my last photo is still recognisable today and you can see the terminal "shaped like an aircraft from above" is the same now as it was when it was built. Here's a much larger image where you can zoom right ion to the ramp & terminal - clicky

As to dook's challenge - looks eastern European to me.

dook 10th Jul 2019 17:21

If your definition of eastern European is east of Germany then no.
