Not Chu Lai. Tam Ky is still the closest suggestion so far.
Measuring the runway on GE, Chu Lai is currently longer than the runway at the challenge - although I think the challenge has been extended a fair bit since these images. |
Qui Nhon ?
Phu Bai perhaps?
OH if correct. |
And dook has done it again, all the hard work, to be pipped at the post. :)
lauriebe hits the nail on the head, Phu Bai it is - here's an earlier image https://mhdgoa.bn.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none Open House has been declared. |

I don't see any non-regulars around except nvubu...

Kelly Field?
I can see why you suggest that, but we're not in Texas.
The challenge no longer exists as an airfield. |
I'm sure it is one of the flight training fields set up by the US Air Service in 1917. The tower is a fairly common feature.
Correct on all counts.
Not Texas, so perhaps Payne Field?
Not Mississippi.
Could be Taylor Field (Alabama)
Not Alabama either I'm afraid.
So let us try Florida, Carlstrom Field?
Let us try Carlstrom Field indeed.
Please take the stage. |
Thanks, a Chivenor equivalent perhaps?
OH for the time being. |
dook - if you haven't seen it, here 's a fantastic picture of Kelly Field from my challenge in Dec 2016, and if you click this link, you will get a larger (huge) image
