One of the Dutch Hebrides?

jensdad 8th Oct 2019 16:52

Flap 40 has it. The heliport on Vlieland, one if the Frisian Islands. No helicopters there when I passed by in May, just what I think is a redpoll sitting on the fence.

Over to you, Flap.

Thanks. Try this. A fairly unique layout.

JENKINS 8th Oct 2019 17:32

Not fishing, and it is not Sutton Bank, but close.

Flap40 8th Oct 2019 19:48

Correct. It is not in the UK. What is fairly unique is the layout.

I have searched “zweefvliegveld” and “Segelflugplatz”
i think it is not in The Netherlands nor In Germany.
Fishing for another clue.

dook 9th Oct 2019 18:26

That's two of us.

Flap40 9th Oct 2019 21:08

Sorry for the late reply. I've been to LCA and back today.
It is in one of those two countries and the surrounding terrain should make it obvious which one.
I believe that it is a GA airfield as well as being a glider site.
Have you noticed the runway edge markers at both ends?

dook 9th Oct 2019 21:28

OK - I'll shoot for the Netherlands.

GE obliques distort terrain.

Flap40 9th Oct 2019 21:29

In the words of Edmund Blackadder..... One more guess.

dook 9th Oct 2019 21:40

Like the Bear, I have searched Germany to no avail.

Flap40 9th Oct 2019 21:45

Have you looked closely at that runway?

dook 9th Oct 2019 21:56

Found this image of Flugplatz Sobernheim

That’s the one. There are not too many airfields where the runway has a bend in it.
officially it has 03/21 and 04/22 but only 04/21 is marked.

dook 10th Oct 2019 09:28

Good morning/afternoon/evening all.

Good evening dook! There seems a distinct lack of trees on that photo. Could it be on of the strips in the Falkland Islands?

dook 10th Oct 2019 19:23

Good evening to you jensdad.

We are in Europe and on an island.

jensdad 10th Oct 2019 19:49

Hmmm. Don't recognise it from my wanderings in Shetland, Orkney or the Faroes. Is it one of the Inish-es, i.e. one of the Aran Islands?

dook 10th Oct 2019 20:01

No. It's not UK, but not far away.
