C2j |
Is it a Port of Entry? |
New Zealand ..... South Island ? . LFH
|
LFH,
No, but correct hemisphere. |
A clue. This airstrip and the nearby tourist resort are both named after the hills in the background.
Edited to avoid sending people in the wrong direction. The name does not include any of the following words: hill, mountain, range, ridge, escarpment. |
Terrain looks like somewhere in the Kimberleys - Bungle Bungles perhaps?
Right or wrong, I must say how nice it is to return to the slow process of clues and reasoning rather than Google photo matching! Edit: No response from India Four Two yet and I'm offline for a while from now so if by any chance I'm correct, please throw open. |
I'm guessing one of the South African resorts. Something like Giant's Castle?
|
I also go with the South African scene, the upturned crust looks like Western Cape (Hex River Valley) but the trees and meadow suggests Eastern Cape.
|
We're making progress here. :)
cgb and SI, Having looked at some pictures of Hex River Valley I can see why you might think that. Wearing my geologist's hat, I think I would have started looking in South Africa too. However, this aerodrome is not in that part of Gondwanaland. Max Tow is closer ;) Here's the front lawn of the resort: http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...28at210348.png but this is not the Kimberleys or Bungle Bungles. |
My first attempt. MalaMala?
|
To see that part of South Australia looking so green had me totally foxed, but I recognize the kangaroo on the left!
Wilpena Homestead perhaps? If so, OH. |
but I recognize the kangaroo on the left! Yes, I thought it was Skippy, too, but I don't see any butcher birds in the trees. ;) The airstrip and resort at Wilpena Pound, SA. The airstrip picture must have been taken after a big wet. I went there once and it was a typical dry, dusty outback scene. I knew as soon as I posted that picture of the resort, you or one of your Ozzie mates would get it. Wilpena Pound is a spectacular eroded syncline in the Flinders Ranges. The airstrip is in the flat, yellowish area in the centre right. The white area at the top left is the salt flats of Lake Torrens. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...lpenapound.jpg Dora-9 has declared Open House. |
That is some crust!
And the greenery fooled me as well. |
That is some crust! 31°31'0.22"S 138°37'25.82"E and progressively zoom out to about 100 km. |
As it is still Open House, where's this aerodrome?
http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/...ps11856f8f.jpg |
Africa perchance ? And is that a jumbo (aeroplane) of some kind, in the distance, crossing the extended centreline of the grass strip, or just a speck on my screen ? LFH
|
It's not in Africa.
It could well be an aeroplane - the variety of which I couldn't tell you, although enlarging the image, I would have thought it more likely to be another light aircraft taking off rather than a large heavy one. |
I-42 Quote .... 31°31'0.22"S 138°37'25.82"E
And there was me thinking it was the dirt strip on your hobby farm ... :) LFH |
It's not in Africa. |
|
|
Is that a motor racing track in the background.
|
yes it is, although a bit run down these days.
|
Another view
http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/...psf86986a8.jpg The circuit has held F1 races Neither the aerodrome or the race track will be around in 4 years. |
Clube Esportivo Ultralve, Barra da Tijuca, Rio.
OH if correct. |
Fantastic Rio
Bummer if overbuild in +4 years......lovely concept...
glf ps I guessed Olympics was the reason, but still a shame..... |
Sorry about the delay in replaying.
CGB - thought you had it, but on checking the name and location, not quite. "Clube Esportivo" is correct, but it isn't for ultralights :D You are the wrong side of the water.:ok: Correction, I had the name as Clube Esportivo de Vôo, (22°58'54.77" S 43°23'37.87" W) on searching for Ultralights the results are showing across the water here 22°58'59.71" S 43°22'13.29" W - where there are two more airfields, however, on checking some of the photos from GE, it seems this location is also Clube Esportivo de Ultraleve. Therefore you got it. Gulfstreamaviator - Rio 2016 is the reason. Open House has been declared. |

Clue - Hospital
