Since you could only get a gate shot, is the strip classified in any way ?
It is military. In the current GM image the bushes aren't so high and there are three helicopters in view. On checking on GE it looks like those buildings to the north are a non military area - which I didn't know about when I stopped
The following might not make sense until you discover where it is, The "country" to the north of the airfield isn't a "country", but isn't in the same country as where the photo was taken from. |

Maybe Czech or Slovakia..?
sycamore: too far north.
dook: :) I only found out about the "country" to the north earlier this year, and decided that I must visit it during my recent holiday as it is a fairly (totally?) unique situation in Europe. Had a nice lunch there. |
You do get around.
Perhaps we're looking at the border between Croatia and Bosnia & Herzegovina.
An obscure republic maybe. |
Not in the Balkans
The other "country" is not a republic |
If we're not in the Balkans we must be south of Greece.
Wrong side of the Mediterranean.
But the other side is mostly desert. I'm confused now.
Go west young man, go west.
San Marino-Borgo Maggiore...OH if correct...and a lat/long would help...
I know what you are thinking, but it is further west.
The "country" is not a republic. edit to add: and the airfield is in a republic. |
Jenkins - sort of - spelt differently for the "country" though.
You've now gone too far west.
Are we near Andorra ?
Yes, close to Andorra, but is nothing to do with that country.
We are 1.8 miles SE of Llivia.
That took a while :ok:
Here's the gate photo. https://wltcza.db.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none Does my "Chinese" make sense now :) Llivia has a very interesting history and has been part of Spain within France since 1659 and the Treaty of the Pyrenees. The location where this treaty was signed is 6 months French and 6 months Spanish. Very nice lunch as well. I wrote earlier "it is a fairly (totally?) unique situation in Europe" - OK it isn't "totally" unique as I've discovered. There are a number of other enclaves in Europe where a bit of another country is totally surrounded by another European country. The daftest has to be BAARLE - Belgium in Netherlands - check this site and the images of the town. Did anyone here know about these anomalies? I didn't know about any of them. Over to you dook |
