I've heard of strip fields but this is ridiculous!!!

I think England gave up that method of farming in 1066 didn't we? (Probably a bit later)

Re the photo of the aircraft:-
Having unstaggered wings, 4 struts each side and lots of talilplane bracing with a rounded leading edge on the vertical stabiliser suggests they are Salmson 2 reconnisance biplanes. Some of the American squadrons operated these biplanes, and the weird fuselage logo (thinking of Rickenbacker's top hat logo) makes me think they could be American.
Are they?

nvubu 16th Jun 2017 12:13

They are American

Djion? a straight guess tBH

nvubu 16th Jun 2017 15:46

Getting closer - you are now less than 100 miles away as the crow flies - go North and East.

barry lloyd 16th Jun 2017 16:10

There are still some fields which are similar the original pattern near the current Nancy airport...

nvubu 16th Jun 2017 16:28

Nancy is too far north. Aerodrome is military - pixilated on BING, clear view on GM

barry lloyd 16th Jun 2017 16:46

Saint Dizier-Robinson? It's one hell of an area, whether it is or not!

Flap40 16th Jun 2017 18:15

Luxeuil Saint Sauveur?

nvubu 16th Jun 2017 19:56

Luxeuil it is - this was going to be my next image:

Dornoch Airport

Flap40 17th Jun 2017 06:24

Obviously too easy :)

Dornoch it is.

nvubu 17th Jun 2017 08:23

The aircraft registrations were the pointer.

Here's another airfield surrounded by strip fields.

Looks like a bloody great Chateaux in the middle of a park running up from the river.................

chevvron 17th Jun 2017 08:53

With a racecourse (horses) next door.

nvubu 17th Jun 2017 09:45

It isn't a chateaux, but is a park, less than 100 years old.

"Racecourse" no longer exists.

Airfield is still active.

nvubu 17th Jun 2017 09:55

And as with my previous submission - strip fields are long gone.

Heathrow Harry 17th Jun 2017 11:01

is north to the top of the picture?

less than 100 years old = post 1917, large park - maybe a WW1 Memorial??

nvubu 17th Jun 2017 12:21

Yes, North is at the top of the picture. Nothing to do with WW1. The "chateaux" is a tomb.
