Re the photo of the aircraft:-
Having unstaggered wings, 4 struts each side and lots of talilplane bracing with a rounded leading edge on the vertical stabiliser suggests they are Salmson 2 reconnisance biplanes. Some of the American squadrons operated these biplanes, and the weird fuselage logo (thinking of Rickenbacker's top hat logo) makes me think they could be American.
Are they?

Getting closer - you are now less than 100 miles away as the crow flies - go North and East.

There are still some fields which are similar the original pattern near the current Nancy airport...

Nancy is too far north. Aerodrome is military - pixilated on BING, clear view on GM

Looks like a bloody great Chateaux in the middle of a park running up from the river.................

With a racecourse (horses) next door.

It isn't a chateaux, but is a park, less than 100 years old.

"Racecourse" no longer exists.

Airfield is still active.

And as with my previous submission - strip fields are long gone.

Yes, North is at the top of the picture. Nothing to do with WW1. The "chateaux" is a tomb.
