Russell, thanks for the comment. A bonus photo below:
https://www.pprune.org/members/66630...hpairnov70.jpg This one is the lead pair of a 4-ship; the second pair (shown in my first photo) is visible still on the runway. The Sharjah runway was narrower than standard at 100 ft rather than 150, which made for interesting times on 4-ship departures. It was not unusual for the second pair to find the wake of the leaders. This 4 was going on a CENTO exercise over Iran; the Shah was still on the throne. |

"Ex military" covers much of the airports and airfields in UK ... Are we in England and are we north of the Watford Gap?

and south of the Watford gap
But to get a Queen's Flight budgie it has to be a fair old whack from London, I don't think Deven or Cornwall so has to be up north somewhere
maybe they were flying from Aberdeen???? Or it may have been (guessing) a some sort of RAF/Aircraft celebration....................
"active-ish" ... An interesting expression
well it's not closed .........
Abingdon by any chance?
Further north than Abingdon.............
Wellesbourne Mountford ?
Smokeon has it - here's a picture of it before they started building - and it requires prior permission to use hence the "open-ish"...................

Another option is visit to now-defunct Royal Show at Stoneleigh. My only visit to W-M with a Royal Air Force aircraft was in a high wing turbo-charged piston single.

Thank you H.H.
