Back around 1315Z.

Octane 18th Jan 2019 10:55

Airfield in England around June 1945..

dixi188 18th Jan 2019 10:59

Tarrant Rushton?

nvubu 18th Jan 2019 11:57

Exeter Airport

dook 18th Jan 2019 13:01

nvubu gets a missile off the rails.

Exeter it is.

nvubu 18th Jan 2019 13:04

Thank you very much.

And for the next mystery aerodrome

dook 18th Jan 2019 13:24

Hagaru-riv ?

nvubu 18th Jan 2019 13:47

It isn't Hagaru-ri. (had to look that location up)

dook 18th Jan 2019 14:32

A very long-range shot - Aldermaston ?

nvubu 18th Jan 2019 14:45

Very long range, not Aldermaston either, but your second shot landed closer than your first one.

dook 18th Jan 2019 14:51

Is the Pacific any closer ?

err - no it isn't closer.

How about India.

nvubu 18th Jan 2019 15:04

Aldermaston is still your closest shot.

dook 18th Jan 2019 15:09

I thought it might be an "over the hump" jobber.

Selecting lap-top water cooling on.

Europe then ?

nvubu 18th Jan 2019 15:12

Europe is correct.

dook 18th Jan 2019 15:14

Suspoes it might even be in the UK.

nvubu 18th Jan 2019 15:15

Nope not the UK

Asturias56 18th Jan 2019 15:22

I may be biased but that looks like S Italy to me.....................

nvubu 18th Jan 2019 15:30

Well that's closer than Aldermaston/UK, but still not correct.

dook 18th Jan 2019 15:30

And I'm wondering if it concerns the Berlin airlift.

However, it's not clear if it's being unloaded or loaded and it wouldn't be the former because that is not Templehof.

nvubu 18th Jan 2019 15:39

The image is from World War II

kenparry 18th Jan 2019 15:44

North Africa?

nvubu 18th Jan 2019 15:50

It's somewhere in Europe

dook 18th Jan 2019 15:53

The low countries or Germany ?

nvubu 18th Jan 2019 16:03

Neither of those.

dook 18th Jan 2019 16:16

In you first photograph I'm intrigued by the head gear of some of the men on the truck.

Might they be Hungarian ?

nvubu 18th Jan 2019 16:22

Not Hungarian
I noticed the head gear as well, but I think that they are just baseball caps with the brim turned upwards - rather than on back to front as is favoured nowadays.

Off home from work shortly. Will post more images later on (I've got 6 more)

dook 18th Jan 2019 16:32

I'm looking at maps of Europe from various years during the war.

Could it possibly be what was Yugoslavia ?

JENKINS 18th Jan 2019 17:18

So perhaps the island of Vis, where I believe the field was Vatni?

nvubu 18th Jan 2019 17:48

Well, I did think that would last a little longer - It is Vis, Jenkins has it.

Quite an interesting history, but abandoned after the war, In recent times, there have been attempts to reactivate the airstrip. GE has images of it freshly graded in 2013, now it seems to back to grass.

Here are the other images,
Some nice graffiti on the aircraft.

And for dook, some interesting head gear in these two.

broadreach 18th Jan 2019 17:54

Good challenge and history lesson NVUBU. Following on JENKINS' guess I tried to find where the airfield might be. Amidst the vinyards above the town of Vis.

nvubu 18th Jan 2019 18:01

broadreach - zoom in on Pisko Polje.

dook 18th Jan 2019 18:03

I'm not going to use or say Yugoslavia again !

JENKINS 18th Jan 2019 18:16

Thanks. Field had look of an emergency spot, and recent reading involved the 15th Air Force.

Now this. One visit, fuel stop on long westward transit. The country has been propping up Europe for some time.https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....7470377934.jpg

Yup, found it. And there's a cricket club.

dook 18th Jan 2019 18:37

If you mean propping up the Euro, then Switzerland has now stopped doing it.

nvubu 18th Jan 2019 18:54

I assume he means the USA

dook 18th Jan 2019 19:02

Well, he might mean defence but his clues are sometimes devious.

JENKINS 18th Jan 2019 19:22

Not finance so no Euro. Numbers are involved, 1,3,17,18. Not USA

dook 18th Jan 2019 19:42

See what I mean ?

Too much Scottish amber liquid I'm afraid.

dook 18th Jan 2019 19:56

fuel stop on long westward transit
Must have been a fair way east then. Depends upon the aeroplane and speed though - maybe a prop.
