I think I'll call you 'Ole Sharp Eyes".

Sibisa airport Indonesia?
There are fish farms in the bay.

SLB

OH if correct (I am to board in 5 minutes)

Asturias56 21st Jan 2019 10:16

Jenkins is correct - it is India - tho I suspect Bears "fish farms" may be partly correct . It's what they call a "tank"

It's one of these busy, successful places with a few million people that few tourists ever visit and people just get on with life - hundreds of them across Asia these days

Always seems to have been a trading spot but nothing important has ever happened here as far as I can tell tho' the town center was planned by the Brits

Air India, Jet Airways, SpiceJet and IndiGo seem to be the main operators here

dook 21st Jan 2019 10:25

Just looking at IndiGo. Are we near New Delhi ?

Asturias56 21st Jan 2019 11:00

Too far North......................

I'm off out until 17:00 local 16:00 Uk

dook 21st Jan 2019 11:22

Your sample operators suggest a domestic airport nearer central India.

Looking.

JENKINS 21st Jan 2019 12:29

Mangaluru perhaps, do I see the old Terminal? Not millions, but still lots of people.

Fish pond, a stew pond in British Abbeys.

Auxtank 21st Jan 2019 13:18

I will chance Indore...now known as Devi Ahilyabai Holkar International Airport.

(I see Asurias has stated he has gone out but omits to add "for a glass or two" - which given time of day is quite correct - although Monday is free for all as far as I'm concerned to get over the weekend.)

dook 21st Jan 2019 13:39

Well, I certainly can't find it.

Asturias56 21st Jan 2019 13:47

Break in meeting - yes Indore - a busy 2++ million place full of light industry and hi-tech and nothing else - never heard of it until I had to visit a couple of years back

Very busy growing itself in to a tech centre.

Came across this old photo the other day so here goes...

dook 21st Jan 2019 14:13

Ah - aircraft ident. A Saro London I believe.

Now the difficult bit...

dook 21st Jan 2019 14:20

Well, that wasn't too difficult.

I do believe it's Mount Batten. I was born and brought up in Plymouth.

Auxtank 21st Jan 2019 14:48

Indeed it is dook.

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....53069f14e4.jpg

Interesting history.

dook has control.

dook 21st Jan 2019 15:03

When I was young and at school I remember seeing many flying boats there, especially Sunderlands.

As an RAF pilot some years ago I did a survival course there and the sea survival part was done using RAF sea rescue launches. Remember those ?

Standby please.....

Here you go.

dash7fan 21st Jan 2019 15:23

Rangsdorf, Bücker Flugzeugwerft ?

OH if correct

dook 21st Jan 2019 15:32

Now there's another hit. Rangsdorf it is.

dash7fan has called OH.

JENKINS 21st Jan 2019 17:26

Was a touch short of fuel one afternoon, this place very helpful. I was heading South, I returned but aircraft stayed, albeit in bits

.

Auxtank 21st Jan 2019 17:36

Are we near the Gulf Of California?

JENKINS 21st Jan 2019 17:38

Not California.

Auxtank 21st Jan 2019 17:55

Still looks like that neck of the woods - albeit with distinct lack of trees...

dook 21st Jan 2019 18:01

JENKINS,

You should have flown the Mk3 Lightning - we were short of fuel on start-up !!

That looks like a very long runway.

Why was your aeroplane in bits ?

Auxtank 21st Jan 2019 18:03

@ dook

Well you're not going to get any sympathy from me for that - you lucky sod.

dook 21st Jan 2019 18:22

Are we somewhere which is not the USA ?

Auxtank 21st Jan 2019 19:05

Yes, I've changed my mind - we are in tut sandpit somewhere.

Jenkins running out of fuel and this lot being useful, etc.

JENKINS 21st Jan 2019 19:23

Yes, sandy area. My machine continued South with me on my planned journey. Months later I returned but machine in bits in a different country. Not pilot error, and the perpetrator has been spotted on Pprune. I loaded it but didn't fly it that day. Night stop on day of photograph in national capital, and I was surprised that ale was available.

Believe demise of machine due to power lever malfunction. Unable to check, local militia peppered the machine with bullets in double-quick time, and journey to strip by road somewhat difficult. And yes, this is not USA.

dook 21st Jan 2019 19:40

What an interesting story. I have also destroyed an aeroplane with gunfire.

Are we near the Caspian Sea somewhere ?

JENKINS 21st Jan 2019 19:44

Not The Caspian.

Jindivik?

JENKINS 21st Jan 2019 19:47

That vague piece of coast is an East coast, and the sea is a major ocean.

dook 21st Jan 2019 19:55

It wasn't a Jindi. It was on the ground.

dook 21st Jan 2019 20:00

Might we be in NE Africa ?

JENKINS 21st Jan 2019 20:18

Not N E Africa, but you have reached the correct continent.

dook 21st Jan 2019 20:21

Maybe NE Africa was an inaccurate call. I was thinking Somalia.

JENKINS 21st Jan 2019 20:27

Not Somalia.

dook 21st Jan 2019 20:37

So your major ocean isn't the Indian I assume.

JENKINS 21st Jan 2019 20:44

You assume correctly.

dook 21st Jan 2019 20:51

Now trying to correlate that with the east coast of Africa.

JENKINS 21st Jan 2019 21:00

Perhaps if I now reveal that a West coast was very close?

dook 21st Jan 2019 21:06

But you said east.

JENKINS 21st Jan 2019 21:09

Yes, the East coast is seen, the West is very close but not seen, making a peninsula. Always devious but never untruthful.
