So perhaps the major ocean is the South Atlantic.

TheiC 21st Jan 2019 21:32

Nouadhibou International Airport, Nouadhibou, Mauritania.

Open House if correct.

JENKINS 21st Jan 2019 21:40

Yes, it is the South Atlantic, and yes it is Nouadhibou. I was on my way to Monrovia, but next stop was Nouakchott for the night. Very French, and in 1993 still apparently very colonial. My hotel felt as from a Graham Greene novel.

OH declared.

dook 22nd Jan 2019 09:19

After all my questions last night I eventually found it only to find that I had just been beaten to it.

A late night to no avail.

Early bird etc...…

Cows getting bigger 22nd Jan 2019 10:07

Hmmm, the American fire engine is a red herring I feel; too many European cars about. So, how about RAF Bentwaters for a start?

dook 22nd Jan 2019 10:34

No smelly red fish on you.

However, it's not Bentwaters or indeed American.

sycamore 22nd Jan 2019 11:03

Unusual types ,PZL`s various,so,somewhere in Poland..?

dook 22nd Jan 2019 11:20

It is indeed.

Davidsoffice 22nd Jan 2019 14:07

Could it be the old Krakow airport, now the Muzeum Lotnictwa Polskiego? Didn't think they had flying there but seems they do.

D

dook 22nd Jan 2019 14:17

It could well be. :ok:

Also known as the Pas Stortowy Muzeum.

Over to you D.

Davidsoffice 22nd Jan 2019 14:24

One of the few on here I've visited but still didn't recognise it! It looked greatly different in 90/91.

Open House.

dook 22nd Jan 2019 14:26

Pity about the OH.

JENKINS 22nd Jan 2019 15:05

So, here comes the cavalry to the rescue, nothing cryptic there.

Motor racing anyone?
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....5227b0e8a2.jpg

dook 22nd Jan 2019 15:54

Doesn't look like the racing circuit is used anymore either.

In fact it doesn't look like a racing circuit at all.

JENKINS 22nd Jan 2019 16:06

Quite correct, it is not a motor racing circuit.

dook 22nd Jan 2019 16:10

RAF Folkingham.

What did the reference to motor racing mean then ?

JENKINS 22nd Jan 2019 16:24

BRM was at Folkingham for two separate periods, before and after Thor. Just imagine, 16 cylinder 1-5 litre. Not a success, but apparently very fast in testing at Folkingham. Over to you, this driver lapped at an early stage.

dook 22nd Jan 2019 16:33

I had a 12 cylinder 5.3 litre. No guesses as to what that was. A gentlemen's club on wheels.

Architecture looks to be Middle East. A country bordering the Gulf? (Arabian or Persian according to choice)

kaikohe76 22nd Jan 2019 17:30

Dubai possibly, from very much earlier days?

dook 22nd Jan 2019 17:36

It does abut the Persian Gulf.

It is PC nowadays to refer to it as the Arabian Gulf, but not me - I lived in SA for five years and refuse to do so.

Not Dubai.

I should add that this is part of a hotel on the airport.

broadreach 22nd Jan 2019 19:04

PC Arabian v Persian Gulf. Some years ago was at reception for IRISL, the Iranian national shipping line. Discussing our own services to that body of water I called it the Arabian Gulf and was promptly corrected by their reps, "Persian Gulf please". No offence given or taken.

dook 22nd Jan 2019 19:14

Choose your words according to whom you are speaking in those parts of the world.

Re. the challenge, just over ten years ago there was a well-known army 'charge' here.

JENKINS 22nd Jan 2019 20:05

2008, Basra?

dook 22nd Jan 2019 20:22

Very exact.

You to bowl.

dook 22nd Jan 2019 20:36

Wheressa pic ?

JENKINS 22nd Jan 2019 20:46

Machine, not self, trying.

JENKINS 22nd Jan 2019 20:48

Here it is. Seen on TV yesterday, it's that time of year. I haven't
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....31f477cea7.jpg
flown there.

dook 22nd Jan 2019 20:55

I don't think it was on UK TV.

JENKINS 22nd Jan 2019 21:03

Not on UK TV. There was an important seat to fill after a recent death.

dook 22nd Jan 2019 21:08

Anything to do with a politician ?

JENKINS 22nd Jan 2019 21:24

Not a politician, and unless seekers have the sort of strange mind which inhabits my noddle a clue of little use. Weather looks nice there.

India Four Two 22nd Jan 2019 21:34

Somewhere in Canada?

JENKINS 22nd Jan 2019 21:38

Not Canada. Temperature at nearest international airport is already 29, I think the Vale will be hot today.

JENKINS 22nd Jan 2019 21:48

And now time to skip off to my scratcher. Keep looking, it's in a lovely spot, goodnight.

India Four Two 22nd Jan 2019 22:06

Nice vineyards too! McLaren Vale, SA. Aldinga airfield.

Checklist Charlie 23rd Jan 2019 02:42

Nice beach just up the road as well.

CC

JENKINS 23rd Jan 2019 08:09

Good morning. Yes, Aldinga. Spotted during TV coverage of the first major cycling event of the year. Sadness with death of long -time commentator quite recently. Long weekend in Adelaide a good memory however.

India42, over to you.

India Four Two 23rd Jan 2019 14:59

JENKINS,

Thanks. The square fields made me think USA, but the 03 ruled that out, so Canada was the first obvious choice. I was going to search Australia next, but the Vale reference immediately narrowed my search area. :)

Try this:

dook 23rd Jan 2019 15:14

Four-bladed props and lots of folded wings.

Do I see Skyraiders ?
