No. It was originally leased from Gulf Air before it acquired it's UK registration.
Bedford truck. |
Luton is correct. Yes, Bedford flatbeds as baggage trucks.
A40-BG was dry-leased by Britannia from Gulf Air for 1979. An interesting aircraft, with significant differences from the normal Britannia aircraft in instruments and some systems. Did it ever have a G- registration? My recollection is that it went back to Gulf Air at the end of the lease. dook has control |

Not Frankfurt JENKS.
|
My information is that it was re-registered as G-BGFS. On G-INFO, G-BGFS is shown as being a Westland Bell 47, the reg issued in March 1979. Strange. |
A pedant he say that Oman is A4O, not A40 which all the above seem to be.
As for the aerodrome the Comet prototype is visiting, without doing any research about route proving, I'll guess it's somewhere on the South Africa route - perhaps even Jan Smuts aerodrome at Johannesburg. ETA I've remembered that it was the second prototype that BOAC used for route proving, not the first so that's 6002 |
Good ID on the second prototype, but it's not being used for route proving here, but another trial. South Africa is a long way from this location.
|
Go north Jenks, to where it's colder.....

jensdad has the right country but not the right airport.
We must be close now. |
Stavanger/Sola. OH if correct.
|
We have a winner.
The Comet was at Sola for icing trials. OH |
Any takers ?
|
Evening Jenks.
under technically testing conditions, in an appropriately named machine |
My jet had four underwing hardpoints (and a large one on the centreline) and it only had a 28ft wingspan.
I don't think establishing your jet is going to help, but under technically testing conditions, in an appropriately named machine It does not appear to be a large airport and the runway doesn't appear to be very long. Caribbean maybe. |
Cruise speed 135 knots !
I'm guessing it wasn't an RAF machine. If it isn't the West Indies I'm now looking at the far east. |
RAF Belvedere ? Not that it helps in searching! SLB |
A Belvedere with underwing pylons...….???
|
Maybe the Pacific.
|
Guessing the aircraft flown was a Britten-Norman Defender, which was the military variant of the BN-2 Islander. Also guessing the locale may be south of the Equator...?
|
I'm also wondering if it was an aircraft working from the Philippines (not the airfield answer)
|
You may have missed my suggestion of the Pacific.
|
I have found it but Tell us more about about the job with islanders in the great pacific. |
Then post it please so we can stop looking.
We'll find out about what he was doing anyway. |
Moorea I have nothing in store so OH but only after the true story. SLB |
Sounds like you had more variety in the RAF than I did.
|
|
RNAS yes, Eastchurch no.
|
Blimey - another aeroplane ID !
|
Sopwith yes, Daedalus No..
|
Looks like a Pup with no gun.
|
It is a Pup.
I have a side-on image of the same aircraft a couple of days earlier, and it has a gun, although in this photo it appears to have been removed. |
RNAS Worthy Down?
|
Not Worthy Down either.
|
Somewhere in Kent maybe.
Walmer ? |
Jenks, did you have an Elsan fitted for that leg....?
|
How about Shoreham? Lancing College just poking above the hilltop.
