Auxtank gets the banana - Florennes it is.

Just beaten to it ExAscoteer.

Auxtank 17th Jan 2019 14:02

Happy for ExAscoteer to have the victory as going out for a bit now. (how do I make that not sound sleezy)

Or OH if he doesn't want it.

kenparry 17th Jan 2019 15:37

Florennes?

Bah, too late...………. slow update on my display

dook 17th Jan 2019 15:40

Blimey - are you not fibre ?

kenparry 17th Jan 2019 16:07

Fibre, yes - but for some obscure reason, the posts from around 1500 did not show until after my submission. Hence I added line 2.

dook 17th Jan 2019 16:12

How weird.

ExAscoteer 17th Jan 2019 16:14

I have nothing to hand so OH.

dook 17th Jan 2019 16:18

Need big sleeve.

JENKINS 17th Jan 2019 17:06

From my sleeve, quiet little place where I once slept in my cockpit while adverse weather prevailed.https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....bd91885443.jpg

Auxtank 17th Jan 2019 18:02

Looks distinctly and deliberately out of the way.

Are we in the US of A?

Helipad markings look american.

JENKINS 17th Jan 2019 18:11

Deliberately out of the way behind the wire. Not in USA, and indeed thereabouts not very united at all.

dook 17th Jan 2019 18:13

Not very united at all could mean Spain.

chevvron 17th Jan 2019 18:15

Cyprus then?

broadreach 17th Jan 2019 18:31

United Arab Emirates? Terrain would seem to fit.

Auxtank 17th Jan 2019 18:41

Looks like they're only interested in helos these days as no rubber on either end.

And looking at the tilt on GE suggests a bl**dy short runway anyway.

Mediterranean ?

dook 17th Jan 2019 18:54

I'm wondering if it's a drone operating site.

Auxtank 17th Jan 2019 18:57

London Gatwick ?

Doesn't look like it.

(takes a bow)

Further in to the East maybe -

JENKINS 17th Jan 2019 19:20

I gave away too much, and one of you picked up the clue. A lot of negative answers which I will cover in 45 minutes.

Auxtank 17th Jan 2019 19:55

Breath suitably bated.

I'm sure we are east Med or in to sandpit territory.

As usual - I could be almost completely wrong.

JENKINS 17th Jan 2019 20:12

Not Spain, UAE, or Sandpit. Drones? Not in my day back in 1993, only Drones then were in P J Wodehouse. Yes it was tight, wire at Northern end, but I operated empty to the main field. That much for the negatives.

dook 17th Jan 2019 20:14

Turkey maybe.

JENKINS 17th Jan 2019 20:29

Delighted to state not Turkey. My first visit, to family home nearby, 1963 by DH106, final departure 767 in 1993. In the interim, in the local area, HP67, B101, Type 175, HS780, VC10, C130, BN2T. I think that is it. Please note that so far I am dealing solely with the negatives. Five airfields involved.

dook 17th Jan 2019 20:37

Does it get cold in the winter there ?

JENKINS 17th Jan 2019 20:40

Current temperature locally 4 to 7. I have seen snow.

JENKINS 17th Jan 2019 20:43

Now for positives. Yes to Eastern Med., I am sure that my next positive answer may not be necessary.

JENKINS 17th Jan 2019 20:46

Of course, yes to Cyprus sorry you were last Chev.

dook 17th Jan 2019 21:31

Are we close to the Cyprus buffer zone ?

JENKINS 17th Jan 2019 21:33

Looking at map, response soon.

Auxtank 17th Jan 2019 21:37

Kingsfield?

jensdad 17th Jan 2019 21:41

Doesn't look like Larnaca, Pafos, Nicosia or Akrotiri. So it must be Dhekelia?

JENKINS 17th Jan 2019 21:45

I fear that the only buffer zone with which I am familiar was in the 1963 dust--up when the Ledra Palace Hotel in Nicosia became unavailable due to the division of hat city. Will it help if I state that village names close to this strip represent both sides of the division? The operator of the strip appears to express impartiality.

JENKINS 17th Jan 2019 21:49

Jensdad wins with Dhekelia, where I kept my machine while operating at Kingsfueld. Sorry if a bit disjointed ce soir, water supply problems. House, not mine, and now fixed.

jensdad 17th Jan 2019 21:52

Thank you Jenkins, and to others who did all the hard work narrowing it down to Cyprus :)
Open House!

Auxtank 17th Jan 2019 21:54

Nice one Jenkins. Sorry about water shortage...well played in any case.

Auxtank 17th Jan 2019 22:01

Auxtank arrived home after his afternoon outing to find the Postman had delivered new ring-bound updated info.

So for a change a new angle on things...

I've Blurred the pertinent info but left the essentials.

And this is what a thoroughly unstabalised final looks like in to 27

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....d25b2f78be.jpg

Back zulu UK in the morning. Good night all.

TheiC 18th Jan 2019 02:51

La Rochelle Il-de-Ré. Open house if correct.

Alarmingly good TheiC

OH is called

TheiC 18th Jan 2019 07:19

...and the approach doesn't look too bad. A touch of right cyclic to regain the centreline, of course.

dook 18th Jan 2019 09:15

thoroughly unstabalised final looks like
That's an understatement!

Obviously not a fast-jet man.
