Balchik Airfield, Bulgaria?
|
Even further East...
But in NATO Not in yurop.... strictly..... misposted |
Must be in Turkey then - very seasonal :ok:
|
Correct - that's what I thought.................................
Nice spot but gets a bit cold in winter and too hot in summer..... https://www.pprune.org/members/32618...-15-164654.jpg |
Siirt Airport, Borajet suspended operations in April 2017.
|
Not Siirt - too far east - tho' Borajet also pulled out here as well
|
How about Tokat
|
Correct!!
Over to you........ |
Thanks - that was an interesting jaunt through Turkish airfields.
Here's a wintery image from 70+ years ago https://0h10pg.bl3301.livefilestore....&cropmode=none |
N W Europe???
|
NW Europe is a good start.
Snow being cleared for these https://qpdrxg.bl3301.livefilestore....&cropmode=none |
Beaumont-Sur-Oise, 386th, Bomb Group.

Bloody hell - 4 hours.............. we're getting good on here Here's one for Christmas Eve - now has concrete runways - but still active.......................... |
Nottingham (1.5 hours) :ok:
|
Aggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I give up!!! Nvubu is of course correct - Nottingham it is - I saw the LH Ju-53/3m there a few years back |
My family hails from Eastwood to the west of Nottingham. I was researching around the area last week on-line and saw that there was an airport close by and I got side-tracked by it - with the thought of this thread.
Hope this lasts more than a couple of hours. https://z31tpg.bl3301.livefilestore....&cropmode=none |
Nvubu, before the competition begins to identify the aerodrome being destroyed, could you please shed any light on that upper right quarter of the image. Crop Circle with Seahorse Head?
|
It definitely isn't a mark on the film as it appears on a number of other images I have. Here is it at full resolution from the image. No idea what the cross is either.
https://dk4egq.bl3301.livefilestore....&cropmode=none But they don't appear today - although there is something where the X was - and this GE image has some sort of crop shadow where the seahorse is/was. https://eqvjrg.bl3301.livefilestore....&cropmode=none |
A trench system for airfield defence, possibly? Haven't a foggiest which airfield it is btw :)
|
Methinks the X is farmers plough or crop seeding marks. On a second look there are a series of white marks that could be the anchor points for an aerial of some sort!
The 'seahorse head' looks like soil erosion. As to the location, NBI CC |
This might help

Is there a Heinkel He 111Z “Zwilling” in the first photo, at top right?
|
eckhard, reckon so.
|
Morning - I see this one is proving harder than the last few aerodromes.
You can see almost all the airfield in this one - well that not obscured by bomb bursts. https://eicfow.bl3301.livefilestore....&cropmode=none |

After 60 years its been reduced in size but not eliminated |
My first thought was Volkel but it doesn’t seem to match against Google Earth........
|
It isn't in Holland. Images posted match up with the current GE.
Here are a couple more, not so obscured by bombing. Both show the sea horse feature, and if you click the link underneath the image you will get a much larger version. https://dk4bgq.bl3301.livefilestore....&cropmode=none clicky https://rmnu6a.bl3301.livefilestore....&cropmode=none clicky |
eckhard & zetec2
I've blown up the section of the image with the HE111Z in it https://eqvjrg.bl3301.livefilestore....&cropmode=none The full sized original image is here |
I'll take a stab at Dijon. GS-Kommando 1 was based there with HE111Z's in late 1943.
|
Well done, Dijon it is - CGB has it - you have the Christmas honours
Couple more images - without any bombs bursting - interesting in the number of aircraft present and the changes in the aircraft stands. https://z31upg.bl3301.livefilestore....&cropmode=none https://ctladg.bl3301.livefilestore....&cropmode=none One of the aircraft pens in this image is still present. https://aviusq.bl3301.livefilestore....&cropmode=none Happy Christmas to everyone. |
It's going to have to be Open House.
|
Since aircraft pens have been mentioned .....

Tindal, NT, during the war?
|
No, not in Australia.
It is in a different hemisphere. |
Got that crushed coral look... Guam??
|
Yes, it is one of many airfields that are (were) on Guam, but which one?
Construction was started by the Japanese and finished by the Americans. It had only one runway, but it looks there was no problem finding somewhere to park! https://www.dropbox.com/s/ldhqolt0in...%20-3.JPG?dl=1 Only a short length of the runway remains visible today as it has all been built over. However the layout of the roads is still the same. |
Can't see any images :(
|
From your description and checking my Guam airfield images - Harmon seems to fit the bill
