sabredog 27th Feb 2012 09:54

Sorry,Chevvron. Not Rearsby.

olympus 28th Feb 2012 12:01

Somewhere in pre-WW2 Germany?

sabredog 28th Feb 2012 12:10

Indeed it is,Olympus.

olympus 29th Feb 2012 13:17

Well, I'm struggling with this one. I managed to find a similar photo on the 'net but so far, have not been able to identify where it is.

Time for a little clue maybe?

spook 29th Feb 2012 13:45

I came across a photo with a very similar hangar type - especially those arch windows above the doors (Hamburg -Fuhlsbuttel) but can't match it to the quiz.

olympus 29th Feb 2012 14:25

Hamburg would have been my guess too but only because the uncaptioned photo I found was adjacent to one of the Fuhlsbüttel Terminal building.

sabredog 29th Feb 2012 16:00

Spook and Olympus, you are both correct.
The provenance of the original photograph was somewhat ambiguous, but gave Hamburg as the airfield!
Thank you for your perseverance, and although Olympus found the original photograph (post#1324),it was Spook who actually put a name to it. I am at a lost as to whom should have control.

spook 29th Feb 2012 16:13

Sabredog, I think that Olympus should have it. Firstly I have no other challenge to offer at this stage and also I will not be around too much over the next couple of days. spook

sabredog 29th Feb 2012 16:24

Thank you,Spook, that is a very fair and equitable solution.
Olympus has control.

olympus 29th Feb 2012 20:33

To keep things ticking over I offer this...

(I had intended to post an aerial view from the final approach to this airport but so far, I haven't worked out how to capture a still image from a .wmv video. If I manage to sort it out before the end of this challenge I will post it as an additional clue).

nvubu 29th Feb 2012 21:40

olympus - I've sent you a pm

Lordflasheart 1st Mar 2012 15:28

A fine fiery middle eastern sunset - but not a clue as to the airport. LFH

olympus 1st Mar 2012 18:26

Ha! Not the Middle East! I operated into this airport dozens of times and it was either raining or just about to rain every time!

Still working on the still image capture.

olympus 1st Mar 2012 19:23

Managed it!

http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/g...e/Apchall1.jpg

Lordflasheart 1st Mar 2012 20:46

Ha ! to you too, Oly. Rain ... ? Doesn't look much like Seattle or Manchester so it must be somewhere in Ireland ? LFH

frontlefthamster 1st Mar 2012 20:56

The yellow turboprop (King Air or TwOtter?) nose must be a clue. Private aircraft aren't painted that colour, so it's commercial, so, probably, scheduled... Reminds me of Scottish Air Ambulance...

olympus 1st Mar 2012 21:31

Lordflasheart

Good thinking; it's certainly on the western side of its country but it's not Ireland

frontlefthamster

It's a scheduled service but not a turboprop (or a piston prop). Not Scottish Air Ambulance.

frontlefthamster 1st Mar 2012 22:32

Thinking aloud again...

I've seen that odd protuberance on the nose ahead of the wiper before, but can't think on what type or what its purpose was. That will be key to solving this by the yellow aircraft route, then... At the back of my mind a voice says 'Embraer or other little jet'...

Europe?

Very flat... Slightly odd approach lights, can't remember what that system is called exactly and haven't the Jepps working on the iPad until I update... Is that the coast or obscuration in the distance?

Netherlands? Germany? The roof of the second farm building from the aircraft is distinctive, but why?

olympus 2nd Mar 2012 15:42

It is Europe but not Netherlands nor Germany. For what it's worth the aircraft is a BAe146 but unless one is familiar with the route structure of long-defunct airlines I don't think this will help.

In the distance is the coast/sea.

sycamore 2nd Mar 2012 16:15

How about Riga..?

olympus 2nd Mar 2012 17:11

Western Europe, not the Baltic.

A further clue - there is a military airfield quite close to the final approach track when on long finals for the westerly runway.

frontlefthamster 2nd Mar 2012 18:26

Of course! I remember the stubby thing from my brief flirtation with the type a few years ago...

Now, off to be a BUSY BEE researching routes..!

Bzzzz bzzzz.

Whispering Giant 2nd Mar 2012 18:53

Think you might find it has something to do with one of BUZZ (short lived UK airline made up from the remains of AirUK) airlines routes - look's like the nose of one of there 146's.

W.G

frontlefthamster 2nd Mar 2012 19:39

Was I too subtle?

sabredog 2nd Mar 2012 19:42

Brest airport?

frontlefthamster 2nd Mar 2012 19:46

Beaten by a short head, I think..!

olympus 2nd Mar 2012 19:57

Yes!! Brest Guipavas it is.

Sabredog has control.

Lordflasheart 3rd Mar 2012 08:10

So just for the record, what was the stubby thing on the yellow nose ? Windscreen washer or pollen collector ? LFH

sabredog 3rd Mar 2012 09:08

Thank you,Olympus.
The next challenge, an airport from warmer climes;
http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...633/Quiz69.jpg

olympus 3rd Mar 2012 15:04

I have an idea about this challenge but I'll hold back to let others have a go. Don't want to hog the thread!

LFH

I think the screenwasher/rain repellent? I'll have to dig out my old manuals to be sure.

Whispering Giant 4th Mar 2012 08:20

hazard a guess at - Perpignan

sabredog 4th Mar 2012 18:30

Not Perpignan,Whispering Giant. Somewhat further East!

Tempsford 5th Mar 2012 13:30

Is it Tbilisi?

sabredog 5th Mar 2012 14:12

Not Tbilisi,Tempsford. Further East still.

India Four Two 5th Mar 2012 14:53

sd,

The architecture seems to have a British flavour. Somewhere in Malaysia?

sabredog 5th Mar 2012 16:29

Not Malaysia,Simon, but very close by!

Whispering Giant 6th Mar 2012 07:45

Payer Laber - Singapore, maybe ?

SilentHandover 6th Mar 2012 11:35

Surat Thani Airport, Thailand?

Off to work for the afternoon so OH if correct.

sabredog 6th Mar 2012 16:20

SilentHandover is correct, and he has declared;
Open House.

Duckbutt 6th Mar 2012 19:57
