Lordflasheart 27th Jun 2013 13:14

Philippines ? :) LFH

Phileas Fogg 27th Jun 2013 13:28

Yes, we're still in the Philippines, knocking on for 10pm at night here in the jungle so another San Miguel or two then offline until around 0100 GMT.

Lightning Mate 27th Jun 2013 14:00

Borongan ?

Phileas Fogg 27th Jun 2013 14:10

No, not Borongan.

cuefaye 28th Jun 2013 09:24

Jolo? ----

Phileas Fogg 28th Jun 2013 09:33

No, not Jolo

Lordflasheart 29th Jun 2013 08:47

Well this is tricky :ok:. I thought I might have got it with Mati, but there's nothing in the distance. The pesky clouds and the poor quality of GE for large parts of the area may be obscuring the target. I've just found a semi-official map claiming to show all the airfields in the Philippines – that will take some time to work through. LFH

Phileas Fogg 29th Jun 2013 09:18

LordFlashHeart,

You are so bl00dy warm you show be glowing, if I tell you this aerodrome has been named after a (currently) serving politician might that help you? :)

Lordflasheart 29th Jun 2013 19:19

It probably would if I could only find it. :)

Phileas Fogg 30th Jun 2013 01:25

Think of "shoes" :)

grollie 30th Jun 2013 08:48

What have levelled Clark AFB and left a small strip?
And planted a few trees. That's one neat trick

Lordflasheart 30th Jun 2013 11:45

Well in my failure to find anything better I've now convinced myself that it could well be Mati - previously known as Imelda R Marcos Airport. So if anyone else is holding back, now's your chance, because I've got to mow the lawn before it rains.

Sa pamamagitan ng ang paraan, sa tabi ng Martes ay ang kaarawan ng ginang Kinatawan ng 5000 pares ng sapatos.

Grollie - Was that a very erudite bit of modern poetry - or just a fiendish riddle ? Either way - bewildered respect sir. :ok: LFH

Phileas Fogg 30th Jun 2013 12:34

Well done LFH, at one point you were telling me it wasn't Mati. :)

And Wikipedia is incorrect when it suggests that Mati Airport remains open having changed it's name from Imelda Marcos, the airport didn't change it name from Imelda Marcos before it closed.

That said, there was talk of reopening it but so far no sign of any operations to and from.

And only in the Philippines could a character like Imelda Marcos be allowed back in to politics and only recently have they called off the search for all the missing monies from the Marcos's reign.

grollie 30th Jun 2013 12:35

Not used to big and complicated words. Forgot all about the Marcos dynasty.

Lordflasheart 30th Jun 2013 14:13

Thank you Phil. I should have looked more carefully first time.

I would argue with your " And only in ... " I'm not sure there's anywhere where they don't ... these days ...

Here's the next. Clue - it's not the Philippines.

Oldpilot55 30th Jun 2013 18:40

My guess would be one of the obscure islands off Tenerife

Lordflasheart 30th Jun 2013 19:08

That's a pretty good start OP. Doesn't leave much ....
LFH

chevvron 1st Jul 2013 03:30

Just a guess, La Palma or Hierro.
If either of those right OH.

Phileas Fogg 1st Jul 2013 04:47

It's La Palma, the two windmills are visible on GE

Lordflasheart 1st Jul 2013 08:32

I guess honour goes to OldP for isolating the area so quickly; Marks to Chevy for La Palma or Hierro - (I had to look hard for Hierro and I don't know how many alternative guesses one is allowed for a valid compete - anyone ??? ) and credit to Phil for the precise answer.

BTW Phil - while we were discussing the not-so-niceties of local politics, did you get rumbled by TS Rumbia/Gorio or did it pass clear enough ?

So Chevy has it - with La Palma (GCLA Canary Islands and 28N 17W if needed ;) ) but as he's declared OPEN HOUSE and in view of the aforegoing, I exercise my command prerogative and offer the next challenge to Phileas Fogg for his precision.

Phileas Fogg 1st Jul 2013 09:48

LFH,

It rained like buggery here over the weekend, roads, well dirt unmade tracks actually, flooded and the ATR72 operations in/out of our island airstrip were cancelled both days.

Lordflasheart 2nd Jul 2013 09:10

Looks like it's OPEN HOUSE.

Lightning Mate 2nd Jul 2013 09:29

PF hasn't called it.

cuefaye 2nd Jul 2013 10:03

No. But I think it's somewhat implicit. So have a go ----

Noyade 3rd Jul 2013 12:03

Lyneham it is. :ok:

And Open House.

Phileas Fogg 3rd Jul 2013 12:07

It looks suspiciously like my old stomping ground of RAF Lyneham and we're looking towards the threshold of rwy 36?

alas ... too late :)

merlinxx 3rd Jul 2013 14:03

Yup tis "Romper's Green" ;~))

Phileas Fogg 5th Jul 2013 05:23
