Rename the image once you have it on your hard drive.

Dora-9 27th Jul 2013 20:31

Nothing new for a few days?

OK, here's one from me - I'm not sure of the etiquette here, as this airfield has featured before, but it's a lovely photo anyway!

chevvron 29th Jul 2013 14:51

As your address is Queensland, I presume it's somewhere in Oz?

Lightning Mate 29th Jul 2013 15:19

Watts Bridge ?

Lordflasheart 29th Jul 2013 19:07

With all those parking spaces - western US ? nb - I can't see the anti spin strakes -is it a CGI ? ;) LFH

Dora-9 29th Jul 2013 20:20

Chevvron - Yes, Australia.

Lightning mate - NOT Watts Bridge (they'd wet themselves if they ended up with a sealed tarmac that size!).

Your lordship - Not CGI, the photo taken on a weekend fly-in (clue). The Chipmunk does have strakes btw, it's exactly as it came out of the RAF in 1975.

Crusher1 30th Jul 2013 07:33

Parafield?

Lordflasheart 30th Jul 2013 08:20

Oakey Qld Army airbase ? Looking west. LFH

Lightning Mate 30th Jul 2013 09:04

The Chipmunk registration is VH-SSJ.

Anything to do with its' 60th birthday?

edit: somewhere near Brisbane?

emeritus 30th Jul 2013 09:16

Tricky one that. With that amount of tarmac it had to be a service airfield. We could probably park our entire Airforce fleet on that tarmac !

Not airforce tho. It's Oakey which is Army.

Not able to post pics yet so OH

Emeritus

OOPS...too late!!

Dora-9 30th Jul 2013 10:28

LFH - correct, it is Oakey.

Lordflasheart 30th Jul 2013 11:28

Thankyou Dora. Apologies for the CGI remark - Place looked so smart I wondered if it was for real- now I understand - Army Rule No 1 - I hope they saluted you ..... and trust you didn't leave the Chippy stationary for too long ...

Now for something rather cooler -

Edited - the C-123 was too easy - try this instead. LFH

dubbleyew eight 30th Jul 2013 15:13

is the lake Bewl Water in east sussex?

Lordflasheart 30th Jul 2013 15:36

Not Bewl Water W8. Not fresh water either. This was taken some years before Bewl was even thought of. Not England.

chevvron 30th Jul 2013 19:27

Would it be one of the strips on Iwo Jima?

Dora-9 30th Jul 2013 20:33

LFH - if I may distract from your current poser for a minute, no offence taken at your CGI suggestion.

LM - well identified, the Chipmunk is indeed VH-SSJ (exWK507), .

The event was a fly-in to support the Museum of Army Aviation (located off to the left of frame). It was held on a Sunday, hence the empty tarmac. It was a stunning clear day, here is part of the gaggle on their way home later in the day:

Lordflasheart 30th Jul 2013 23:00

Dora - any time. I got my first "air experiences" on Chipmunk, Anson and Auster. Always pleased to see them still flying.

Chevy - Not Iwo Jima - wrong hemisphere. This field opened in the late 30s and was closed by the 80s.

LFH

Krakatoa 31st Jul 2013 04:55

Is this Northern Ireland

India Four Two 31st Jul 2013 05:40

Hey Krakatoa, last time I looked Iwo Jima and Northern Ireland were in the "same hemisphere". ;)

LFH,
The topography looks tropical. Is this in the Bismarck/Solomon Sea area?

PS Lovely pictures, Dora 9

Lordflasheart 31st Jul 2013 07:12

:uhoh: Oops fellas, my mistake - slack language - that's the problem with knowing where it is. How many hemispheres have you got ?

I meant Western rather than Eastern - as opposed to Northern rather than Southern.

So - Western hemisphere but not Northern Ireland.

Northern hemisphere so not Bismarck/Solomon Sea (and not tropical.)

That should narrow it down. Apologies to all.

ps I'd better go and check the defo of Western hemisphere. ****

Okay, further edit after 5 mins - I've found four definitions already so let's just say this is somewhere between 90 deg West and 90 deg East and I am not claiming that as a hemisphere - before this gets me into any more trouble.
LFH

Lightning Mate 31st Jul 2013 08:28

ps I'd better go and check the defo of Western hemisphere.
West from 0 degrees longitude to 180 degrees longitude. This is the only definition.

sycamore 31st Jul 2013 09:21

Must be in Canada..?

Lordflasheart 31st Jul 2013 10:14

Thanks for the professional definition LM. :ok:

Not Canada, Sycamore.

To recap - between the Equator and North Pole and between 90W and 90E - the part that passes through 0 deg long. at Greenwich - and it's salt water. Nuff diggin' here - no more haitch-word for me.

TheChitterneFlyer 31st Jul 2013 10:26

North America?

Lightning Mate 31st Jul 2013 10:33

between the Equator and North Pole and between 90W and 90E - the part that
passes through 0 deg long. at Greenwich
Nothing too difficult then.....

http://i636.photobucket.com/albums/u...ps4ce9960b.jpg

Lordflasheart 31st Jul 2013 11:16

TCF - Not North America.

LM - Thank you again. " ..... worth a thousand words."
However, it did start with the entire globe and our razor-sharp contestants have already reduced it to a quarter of that. But to assist further - not Greenland or Africa or the Caribbean (or Northern Ireland ... or Bewl Water ;).) LFH

Lightning Mate 31st Jul 2013 11:33

I'll thus shoot for mainland Europe.

Lordflasheart 31st Jul 2013 11:36

Mainland Europe it is ....

Lightning Mate 31st Jul 2013 12:10

It appears to be of WW2 vintage.

Italy?

Lordflasheart 31st Jul 2013 12:35

It is WWII but it's not Italy.

Airclues 31st Jul 2013 12:40

Scandinavia?

Lordflasheart 31st Jul 2013 12:59

Indeedy Davey, Scandinavey. How ya doin ?

Lightning Mate 31st Jul 2013 13:10

Fornebu?..

Krakatoa 31st Jul 2013 13:23

I will go for Sola

Lordflasheart 31st Jul 2013 13:33

Oslo Fornebu (Norway ;)) spring 1940 during Weserübung - Well done Lightning Mate. You have control.

BTW Wiki has a much sharper picture of Fornebu littered with all sorts - barely room to fly. I thought I could hear the tannoy echo - "Letzte Pilot im Bierkeller zahlt die Rechnung."

This is what it looked like six years ago - LFH

Lightning Mate 31st Jul 2013 13:36

Cheers.

If there are no objections I will donate this to Airclues.

He hit the country or I would have been going all over the place.

Lordflasheart 31st Jul 2013 13:45

By Jove you chaps have been busy - three posts while I'm off editing my German grammar.

To celebrate ? his 13,000th post -
LM offers it to Airclues - Take it away Dave !

Lightning Mate 31st Jul 2013 13:52

Hadn't noticed 13,000 posts!

Airclues 31st Jul 2013 15:56

Thanks LM, but unfortunately all of my airfield photos are on slides. Can anyone recommend a scanner that works with an iMac (please PM rather than clog up the thread (and possibly infringe the advertising rules))?

Could I please either hand it back to LM or declare open house.

dubbleyew eight 1st Aug 2013 07:09

have a go at this one. put a ruler on the screen. you can see the curvature of the earth.
