Thanks Phil.
It could be said that this has been done before, but it hasn't ---- http://i1287.photobucket.com/albums/...ps08f15b5b.jpg |

Open House if it is.
Cheers. |
Prezactly Noyade. Minchinhampton until 1920, closed, then re-opened in 1938 as RAF Aston Down. Apologies for the slight confusion and unintended repetition.

Well recognised - Phan Rang it is. Home to No2 Sqn, RAAF, c.1967
LM, YHC |
I have nothing which is not GI proof, so would have to resort to Google Earth.
Is that acceptable? It's only supposed to be fun. |
|

Clue - an appealing end
|
Not Embakasi - and 'tis a 208 aircraft.
Answer is in my clue |
Aerodrome
would it be RAF Salalha, east of Aden?
|
Farwania also known as Kuwait New?
|
Amman Marka it is Jenks! Oct/Nov 1958 during the withdrawal of British forces from Jordan. 208 Hunters and a 70 Sqn Hastings.
Amman Marka is where Abu Qatada's deportation flight from UK ended, following the end of his appeal process - hence my clue: an appealing end :) You have the stone --- |
I've been absent for a while, and as it's open house, here's the next mystery aerodrome.
One side: http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/...psbc4c86a4.jpg The other side: http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/...psd1036031.jpg And then looking out across the aerodrome http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/...ps460ad632.jpg |
Hunters at Marka
I was standing at almost the exact spot that the picture was taken three days ago, just before the homecomming.
It has changed, the hills are still there, but 100% covered with housing. There are a few hunters in the "Museum" at the airport, I will try to get the serials and pictures, from a closer distance than the picts I have at present, (runway). Glf |
Thought there might have been some suggestions as to the continent.
Anyway - this is what is going at this location. http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/...ps058e434e.jpg With the end result. http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/...psdd62bf10.jpg Another photo clue later on. |
A refurbishment base obviously.
Gura sir, Egypt ? |
You're right with the name - Gura Air Depot (15°01'17.53" N 39°02'22.33" E) - but it's in Eritrea, not Egypt.
You have control. |
Thank you kindly.
I'm afraid it will have to be Open House. |
|
Khormaksar ?
|
Sorry LM, not Khormaksar
|
Told you!!
All yours Jenks |

Budaörs. The KLM DC3 is interesting - as I understand it this aircraft was shot down in June '43 with the actor Leslie Howard on board.
|
It is indeed Budapest Airport:ok: You are correct regarding Leslie Howard, he was killed on 1st june 1943 on BOAC Flight 777, Lisbon to Bristol. the aircraft was DC-3 G-AGBB which had been KLM's PH-ALI
