Churchill MB CYYQ ??

evansb 25th Sep 2007 22:32

seacue is correct.:ok: Originally built by the U.S. in 1942. Churchill airport was eventually operated by the R.C.A.F., and was an important staging base for the construction of radar bases in Canada's north during the Cold War.
The photo was taken in 1955, and shows the R.C.A.F complex.
Churchill is now one of the few remaining Canadian civilian airports operated by the federal government (Transport Canada).

You have control.

evansb 26th Sep 2007 09:38

Very easy? Are you a member of 'Mel's Club for Mensa'? Mostly sailing ships in the harbour. Looks like a volcanic island. Hmm..when was this post-card taken?

seacue 26th Sep 2007 09:59

Yes, volcanic island. Photo taken around 1960 +/-, I should think. The site is so unique that I thought it easy. One learns. Sailing ships = yachts. Maybe there were some larger sailing vessels carrying multiple vacationers.

Another hint at 13:10 - Commonwealth country.

sidtheesexist 26th Sep 2007 14:49

Somewhere in the Carribean?

PS a very enjoyable thread/game :ok:

seacue 26th Sep 2007 14:57

Yes, Caribbean.

seacue's challenge

Well it has got to be St Lucia Airport.
mel

seacue 26th Sep 2007 16:20

Yes, George F L Charles Airport, better known as Vigie Airport SLU at Castries, St Lucia St Lucia has the larger UVF Vieux Fort airport near its south end. I'll give Mel credit for this one.

My only visit was on a LIAT flight that made an intermediate stop at SLU on a dark and stormy night. I was going from St Vincent to Martinique, IIRC.

Mel has control

Thanks for that, those hills at the inland end of the runway look a little dosconcerting.
Now this one is easy and is certainly not a Mensa test as Bri would imagine.
