Well, it's 10 Sqn RAAF and if it's not Mountbatten then it has to be Pembroke Dock?
If I'm right, then let someone else have a go. I still can't figure out how to post a photograph on to the forum. |
Sorry, not Pembroke Dock. Here is another view of the water 'drome:

So it's got to be back in Oz? Townsville?
in fact forget that, unless the sea has moved back... |
Oban perhaps?
Sorry, not RAF Oban. The water aerodrome is not located in Great Britain.
Having lived there for many years, and watched a concrete yacht being built around the corner, I was still not sure until I checked.
I think it's the old base that was near to the sugar terminal in Durban Bay harbour. If it is, someone else can take it away till I get more time in the attic Imagegear. Edited to add: http://ports.co.za/admin/large/image-195.jpg Sunderland reconnaissance flying boats of No.35 Squadron, South African Air Force at the Marine Air Force Base at Bayhead, Durban in 1948. This area now forms part of the ship repair yards of Dormac Marine. |
ImageGear is correct. It is SAAF Congella, Maydon Wharf, Durban, Natal. In April 1945, 35 Squadron received the 1st of 16 Short Sunderland GR5s, and operated the type until September 1957, when it was replaced by the Avro Shackleton.

Scandinavian?

Possibly Stord?
Evansb and AFS I had to look up where Stord is - had never heard of it! But no, not a scandi airfield.
Homer, AK?
Never heard of that one either! Not Alaskan..
Prince Rupert BC?
That neither. Although the area does have a notable British connection.
Somewhere in New Zealand?
No, though the same connection does extend to NZ.
Alpine???????????????
Not Alpine, but round there it is cold, despite the name.
