BAMRA wake up 26th Sep 2007 21:24

Longyearbyen, Spitsbergen, Svalbard, Norway.

(sorry don't have the postcode!)

mcdhu 27th Sep 2007 09:43

Sorry to go back one, but Male has changed a bit since I was last there in 1972 - the runway was PSP!!

Cheers,
mcdhu

As BAMRA posted a correct answer 24 hours ago, would any PPRuNers like to post an aerodrome photo?

AN2 Driver 27th Sep 2007 21:39

Yea, sorry, was kinda out of town unexpectedly.

Should be very easy.

Arfur Feck-Sake 28th Sep 2007 08:53

Is it Southend?

AN2 Driver 28th Sep 2007 09:17

No, not Southend.

mcdhu 28th Sep 2007 10:42

Is it in Germany?

AN2 Driver 28th Sep 2007 15:54

No, not in Germany.

Phileas Fogg 28th Sep 2007 16:57

It looks 'Eastern Block' with those apartment blocks in the background.

Golf Charlie Charlie 28th Sep 2007 17:10

Is it Sofia ?

AN2 Driver 28th Sep 2007 17:12

Sofia it is!

Looks very different now with the new terminal and runway.

GCC, all yours!

Best regards
AN2 Driver (who learnt to do just that not too far away from there...)

Golf Charlie Charlie 28th Sep 2007 17:27

As I did earlier in the thread when I "won" one, I'll pass, thanks.....

To keep things flowing on a Friday evening, here is the next aerodrome challenge:

MReyn24050 28th Sep 2007 20:54

evansb's challenge

RAF Geilenkirchen perhaps?

BEagle 28th Sep 2007 21:24

RAF Laarbruch 1961.

evansb 28th Sep 2007 21:50

BEagle is spot on.:ok: RAFG Laarbruch-Weeze, ETUL, opened in November 1954. The base hosted as many as 5 squadrons, and operated until May, 1999.
The airport re-opened in 2003 as Niederrhein Airport, EDLV, and has been called Airport Weeze. Ryanair was the first scheduled carrier to operate from the aerodrome.

You have control.

BEagle 28th Sep 2007 22:28

A sad fate for good old Laarbruch.....:(

How about this:

ICT_SLB 30th Sep 2007 05:48

Just a guess - Boscombe Down? Looks like whereever it was, it was taken from the "dustbin" turret below a Haybag (maybe Fairford-based?).

In the unlikely event I'm right, it's open house as I don't have any suitable pix.

BEagle 30th Sep 2007 06:06

Neither Boscombe Down, nor taken from a Heyford...

But it was a British military aerodrome.

Speedpig 30th Sep 2007 07:41

Little Rissington? Being a Gloucestershire lad, it looks like God's county.
