Hmm... whilst we're waiting for Claudillo to confirm, here's a bonus pic,
Politically it's in Europe but geologically its 'North America' also has a unique claim to fame in Europe as its most -----? airport, hopefully no clues in the url!

Claudillo's mystery airfield might be Upolu, Samoa.

BAMRA wake up 1st Oct 2007 20:16

PPrune radar - would the famous Scottish resident fit with Upolu though?

the incivil beast 1st Oct 2007 20:23

Bamra's pic looks like Flores airport (Santa Cruz das Flores, LPFL, in the Azores archipelago, but on the westen side of the atlantic divide)

BAMRA wake up 1st Oct 2007 20:43

icb

It's not Flores! The runway there is inland of the bulk of the town of Sta Cruz + high cliff at both ends. Roughest pub I ever entered was a tap room there called 'The Flyer'.

Depends if it's Robert Louis Stevenson or not ;)

Caudillo 1st Oct 2007 21:11

Is the bonus pic Corvo by any chance? Looks a touch too metropolitan to be Flores..!

Old not Bold & Bamra, congratulations - it's the former four year home of the Scotsman Alexander Selkirk - Now Chilean (the island, rather than the scotsman, who returned home after living on goats to while his days away down the boozer) and known by the name Isla Robinson Crusoe, for whom Selkirk is to have provided the inspiration

Good job!

BAMRA wake up 1st Oct 2007 21:19

Claudillo, yup it's Villa Nova do Corvo, which I believe is Europe's most westerly airport. Beautiful island and friendly people.

seacue 1st Oct 2007 21:47

I should think that St Martin qualifies as the most westerly place that is politically an integral part of "Europe". They officially use the Euro and vote in French and EU elections. It is part of the "Region" and "Department" called Guadeloupe. Admittedly a DOM, not within the hexagon.

This would make the Grand Case Airport TFFG the most-westerly "European" airport. Second would be Baillif Airport at Basse Terre on Guadeloupe itself. Google Earth grossly mislocates Baillif. It is in the northern suburbs of the town of Basse Terre.

Pardon this niggling response.

If BAMRA really has passed it to me, it's open house, as I'm having a problem finding a good pic..sorry about that.

I'll do better next time, if there is one.

Dan Winterland 2nd Oct 2007 08:43

Stepping in again as it's open house.

Removed.

Thinking about it, perhaps not a good idea to post the image.

The SSK 2nd Oct 2007 09:09

Gan?
plus more characters..

Dan Winterland 2nd Oct 2007 09:55

Oops. Sorry about that SSK. It's not Gan, please pretend you didn't see the picure!

Over to you as I made a boo boo!

The SSK 2nd Oct 2007 10:01

Don't think it was a boo boo. This is a grown-up thread (so far)
This is probably too easy for words

SmileAirlines 2nd Oct 2007 17:49

seacue 2nd Oct 2007 18:00

Should I? Shouldn't I post this?

This photo will be immediately recognized by those who know, but may be difficult for anyone else.

First hints

The picture was taken at Christmas time and the red and green things at the right are the glass-block elevator/lift towers for the parking garage to the right of them. White lights are used the rest of the year.

The terminal is on the left.
