Midway? or Christmas Island?

evansb 31st Aug 2007 18:36

It is not in Australia, not Midway, nor Christmas Island. It is an island country however, located in the South Pacific.

old,not bold 31st Aug 2007 18:38

Nandi (Nadi)?

evansb 31st Aug 2007 18:52

old, not bold is correct:ok: Well done:D Nadi International Airport on the island of Viti Levu. in the sometimes Commonwealth Country of Fiji. You have control.

621andy 31st Aug 2007 19:09

I thought it might be Nadi, but was hoping it wasn't as I had my own pic in reserve! too late to use it now, so here it is...

Bu99er;)

621andy 31st Aug 2007 19:12

I landed 20m from the main runway at Nadi in a balloon once, and witnessed a 747 take off as close as I'll ever see one I suspect;) (They'd held it so's we could land-steam gives way to sail:})

evansb 1st Sep 2007 12:10

Thanks Andy. Great shot of Nadi. Anyone have an aerodrome photo they would like to post? :)

paddyboy 1st Sep 2007 12:41

Hopefully a nice and easy one(or two).

Duckbutt 1st Sep 2007 14:06

I reckon that's Bentwaters.

As I'm just a layman, open house if I'm right.

paddyboy 1st Sep 2007 14:14

Didn't think that'd take long.

You can just make out Woodbrige in the distance.

36 hours later, Clues 1 and 2:

Northern hemisphere, west of the meridian.

Build commenced in 1943.

seacue 3rd Sep 2007 12:17

Almost all coastal USA airfields have their main runway running E-W. I've searched long and hard and haven't found such a site with the large island / peninsula between the airport and the sea.

Cubs2jets 3rd Sep 2007 14:19

The "big man" has a couple of the todays biggest corporate jets based here. I can't name it because I don't have a picture to post! :bored:

seacue 3rd Sep 2007 15:29

Cubs2jets

Please read your PM.

621andy 3rd Sep 2007 17:13

Wild guess...somewhere in the San Fransisco bay area? Having said that, I can't find anything on google earth that matches it:(

seacue 3rd Sep 2007 18:28

I've followed his strong hint and Cubs2Jets clearly has the correct answer which he is too bashful to post.

ThreadBaron 3rd Sep 2007 20:44

seacue
Knowing your location I would have expected an immediate answer from you.

621andy

Wild man, wild! And wrong.:}

Having followed the strong hint, I am assuming that seacue and Cubs2jets know the aerodrome I posted. But, until someone actually names it I remain undefeated!;)

Clue 3: Sisters.
Clue 4: Uniquely shaped hangar.

Tiger_mate 3rd Sep 2007 21:01

I know it:

1) Alka Seltzer!!
2) My sons

But I have been away for several days (Goodwood revival) and am too tired to post another one.

seacue 3rd Sep 2007 21:34

Andrews AFB KADW ... but Cubs2Jets surely knew it first so he gets the credit. Neither he nor I have anything to post.

KADW is 25 miles from me, yet I didn't recognize it without C2J's hint..

Well, I'm a European lad me:O ..and I still don't get all the in-jokes about big men keeping their jets there etc;)

Anyway, is anyone gonna post the next pic?

621andy 4th Sep 2007 08:38

If it's open house, here's an easy one to get things going again...

Caudillo 4th Sep 2007 09:44

Apologies andy but it doesn't appear to be showing..

Time for my debut..?

621andy 4th Sep 2007 10:00

Hmm, don't know what happened there:* Now you've posted a good one, I suppose mine'll have to wait for another time:E

As to the photo, hmm, no idea again! very foresty, malaysia/Borneo? On past experience, I'm probably several continents out;)

Caudillo 4th Sep 2007 10:09

Cheers Andy. Nice try, but no orangutans here!

Tiger_mate 4th Sep 2007 10:14

a) Tropical rainforest

b) Central America possibly Caribbean Island, but probably mainland.

Thought it might have been Belize City but overcome with a desire to find out what aeroplane it was taken from. Gave up on that one too as I have too much homework today, therefore would appreciate the aircraft answer to put me out of my misery.

The SSK 4th Sep 2007 10:15

I've visited Horta in the Azores, which looked a bit like that.

Caudillo 4th Sep 2007 10:29

Tiger_Mate & The SSK, both incorrect I'm afraid

BSD 4th Sep 2007 10:41

Montserrat?

BSD.

Caudillo 4th Sep 2007 10:44

Very nice try, but alas...

keep going!

seacue 4th Sep 2007 12:25

Looks a lot like JF Mitchell on Bequia, but not quite.

Caudillo 4th Sep 2007 13:20

No cigar this time :)

The people here have a very pronounced Dutch accent..

621andy 4th Sep 2007 13:53

Thought maybe TNCC Hato, on the Dutch Antilles, but the Google image doesn't fit:rolleyes:....am I close?

621andy 4th Sep 2007 15:36

Governors harbour on Eleuthera, Dutch east indies, sort of fits, but not really.. GRRRR:*

MReyn24050 4th Sep 2007 22:36

Caudillo's challenge

Sarmi Airport(ZRM) Indonesia perhaps?

Caudillo 5th Sep 2007 18:03

Not quite folks, I'm wondering if this one is a touch too tricky...

Well, the aircraft in the previous photo is the mighty ATP

It's a small island, part of a volcanic archipelago.
Here's another view

barry lloyd 5th Sep 2007 18:41

Flores, Azores?

Caudillo 5th Sep 2007 18:46

Fraid not barry := (But points for rhyming!)

barry lloyd 5th Sep 2007 18:49
