Sorry, none of those bases. The city and region is still in conflict. The base was the site of the RAF's first involvement with moving large numbers of troops by air.

Kirkuk?
Rgds AAO |
Kirkuk is spot on:ok: AAO has control.
Thought someone would've had a go by now.......
Still an active airfield although not operated by the 'organisation' which originally built it. Close to the site of an infamous early 1900s shipwreck. Rgds AAO |
What shipwreck?
The Baron Inverdale was wrecked on the coast of Masirah in 1904.....will the loss of all hands
Jenkins is correct so, Open House.
gds AAO |
Here is the next "Which Aerodrome?":

Wild guess......
Kunsan? Rgds AAO |
Sorry, not Kunsan, South Korea.
Shooting totally from the hip,

Is it one of the K- bases?
Rgds AAO |
Butterworth
RETDPI is correct:ok: Again! The aircraft are RAAF Sabres at Labuan Borneo. (Lapangan Terbang Labuan, Sabah, Malaysia). You have control.
Thanks evansb It was a close call with Butterworth.
As today is the 11th . A wartime scene...... http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u...rfield0001.jpg |
Looking south / southwest given the position of the sun. Runway in the background aligned east / west or southeast / northwest.
Variety of types including a glider by the looks of things and Typhoons. Market Garden springs to mind so probably somewhere in East Anglia. |
Maupertus, France?
Not in France , As far as I am aware.
RAF Charmy Down near Bath, England ?
Ramsbury at a very rough guess but it could be any one of a number
Somewhere in Wiltshire ?
Can I change my guess to RAF Chilbolton ?
You guys are getting warmer and warmer.
This is another shot from the same era at this place. http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u...afield0001.jpg |
Greenham Common
Greenham Common would have been occupied by the U.S.A.A.F. at the time these images were taken.
Is it Coltishall?
The station in question is closer to Greenham than Colt.
Looking at the tiffys in pieces, how about Langley?
There is a clue in the presence of the other types parked around as well in various stages of undress.
No not Langley. |
It looks a lot like an MU given all the various makes models and marks in between.
Lyneham, Aston Down, etc. If so I must call "Open House" as I am travelling in the colonies!! Speedbird 48. |
White Waltham per chance?
Tarrant Rushton
How about Ford?
None of those so far...
You guys are getting me worried :) This base has not been noted before.................. Wokka ....Wokka.....Wokka......... :) |
"Wokka, Wokka" would suggest RAF Odiham but that must be much too obvious
Mel |
Benson.........
Weston Super Mare?
Looking at the architecture of that building top left, I'm inclined to guess Germany - Gutersloh? (I think 18 Sqdn used to be based there and they've got wokka machines.)
Mel!!!
Welcome back! I was getting worried as we haven't heard from you for a while. It's Odiham, Post D-Day when it was an aircraft repair and support depot. You have control :) : ) |
