Not much of an overshoot there- the runway's blocked halfway down! I assume you were going for the grass;)

Thought it might be South Marston before Honda got their hands on it, but looking at Googly it doesn't match up....hmmm...

Background Noise 17th Sep 2007 19:54

Ex USAF? - Alconbury?

621andy 17th Sep 2007 20:20

BN- reckon you're right.

paddyboy 17th Sep 2007 20:33

BN :D
Thought that'd last more than a few hours!

Background Noise 17th Sep 2007 20:51

Ok - here's a fairly (very?) obscure one. I think this satisfies the old photo rule!

paddyboy 17th Sep 2007 20:56

Brough perhaps?

621andy 17th Sep 2007 20:57

Background Noise 17th Sep 2007 21:01

paddyboy 17th Sep 2007 21:14

what clues?
Lord knows. Just a hunch.

Lack of horizon perhaps.

Here's a nice easy one albeit obscured by a little well placed cumulous.

Background Noise 17th Sep 2007 21:28

St Mawgan?

Last one was Brough - taken by my father who fortunately wrote on the backs of his pics...'our 4 aeroplanes at Brough, Nov '59. Under the massive wing of a Beverley. Part of Blackburn's Factory at right rear, sea wall in rear at left'

paddyboy 17th Sep 2007 21:32

You've done it again BN.
Mawgan it is.:ok:

Background Noise 18th Sep 2007 07:16

This is all I can manage after my tricky one lasted 5 minutes.

Dan Winterland 18th Sep 2007 15:05

Looks familiar - but I'm very intrigued by that big curved tyre mark. Not the only skid mark that happened that day I guess!

And a touch low on the glide slope!

paddyboy 18th Sep 2007 19:12

Hmm...

South America?

Venezuela?

PaperTiger 18th Sep 2007 20:09

Malta 14 ?

Background Noise 18th Sep 2007 20:39

PaperTiger you are correct - over to you

PaperTiger 18th Sep 2007 20:48

paddyboy 18th Sep 2007 21:34

PaperTiger 18th Sep 2007 21:36

Wrong hemisphere (E-W).

old,not bold 19th Sep 2007 09:31

Cambridge? (Not sure about the hangar, though....)

PaperTiger 19th Sep 2007 14:33

Yes, Cambridge it is.

onb has control.

old,not bold 19th Sep 2007 15:38

Oh dear, that puts me on the spot...no very good pics and a huge learning curve to get them from the ancient album to here...here goes with one...

I can't get the photo onto the page, even though I'm following the instructions at the top of the forum...

The link is

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...ter/Ident4.jpg

The hills (to the SW) are a clue...it was taken around 1988..
http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...ter/Ident4.jpg

All I get on the edit screen is a little box with the picture symbol, and nothing when saved.

ZH875 19th Sep 2007 17:59

Wroughton?

old,not bold 19th Sep 2007 19:17

Right country, wrong airport.....

paddyboy 19th Sep 2007 19:19

Compton Abbas?

MReyn24050 19th Sep 2007 19:25

old,not bold challenge

Just astab in the dark Dunsfold perhaps?

Mr_Grubby 19th Sep 2007 19:53

old, not bold.
You don't make it easy !!!
Should we rename this thread What car park ? !!!!!!!!!
Could it be Popham ?
Clint.
:):):)

old,not bold 19th Sep 2007 20:19

Sorry!

It's the only photo, bar an even more difficult one, that I've got..

You're looking SW and there's an estuary between you and the hills...and a fruity NDB down there somewhere over the Spit's nose

BTW, not Compton Abbas or Dunsfold

old,not bold 19th Sep 2007 20:37

If I can get this pic on, it's the same aerodrome, different bird, and fairly easy...

Nope, still won't do it, here's the URL

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...ter/Ident5.jpg

BOAC is on the case of my incompetence, you'll be glad to hear..

KMG 365 19th Sep 2007 21:04

Perhaps Exeter???

old,not bold 19th Sep 2007 21:05

Yes indeed...it's Exeter

All yours.

KMG 365 19th Sep 2007 22:39

Exeter Airfield

Forgive for the digression but I found a photograph of a number of C-47 belonging to the USAAF 440th Troop Carrier Group ranged on Exeter Airfield on the 5th June 1944 on the same part of the airfield that old,not bold's photograph was taken.

That's it. Well done, evansb!

Over to you.

evansb 20th Sep 2007 16:46
