Is that Oban?
It is Oban / Scotland :ok:
Background Noise; you have control :D

The unconventional approach is due to the caravan park short finals that can be seen in the middle picture. Noise and the complaints that accompany noise being the problem.

Background Noise 12th Aug 2007 15:16

Surprisingly don't have that many of my own photos but here's one:

Old Buckenham.

Background Noise 12th Aug 2007 16:26

'fraid not - right part of the country though.

Tiger_mate 12th Aug 2007 16:51

Seething?

and is it from a Cub?

Background Noise 12th Aug 2007 17:19

No and Yes - I wondered about a double 'what....' entry!

Tiger_mate 12th Aug 2007 17:26

The water tower looks like a landmark near Wyton in Cambridgeshire, but I guess the whole of East Anglia could be covered in such items.

Background Noise 12th Aug 2007 17:48

South of Wyton

Saab Dastard 12th Aug 2007 17:55

Bourn

ThreadBaron 12th Aug 2007 17:55

If it had been Seething you would have seen the see thing!! *Observatory*.

Background Noise 12th Aug 2007 18:02

Bourn it is - SD has it. Was that too much of a clue (not suggesting SD didn't know it anyway) - how long do we string it out usually?

Saab Dastard 12th Aug 2007 19:43

No, the only clue I needed was that it is in the UK (as I thought), then it was a simple matter to look up Pooleys... ;)

Here is the next mystery aerodrome:

seacue 12th Aug 2007 22:07

I don't have any idea what the current challenge aerodrome is....
but it was evansb who suggested this thread. I just acted on his suggestion.

RAF Valley in welsh Wales?

'866'

Tiger_mate 13th Aug 2007 06:12

EvansB challenge.

Military, probably US Military for the only UK airfield with that much concrete was RAF (USAFE) Burtonwood which this is not. Therefore whilst possibly in Germany is more likely to be mainland US.

Anywhere close?

seacue 13th Aug 2007 06:38

The village in the distance and the terrain just don't look like the USA to me ... but I have been wrong before (gasp!).

evansb 13th Aug 2007 11:02

evansb's challenge

The photo was taken during construction of the field in W.W.II. The airfield handles mostly civilian traffic now. Sorry, it is not in Wales, Germany, nor the U.S.A. It is located in the northern hemisphere, however.

ZH875 13th Aug 2007 11:12

evansb's challenge

How close to Keflavik is it?

ThreadBaron 13th Aug 2007 11:45

As close as Reykjavik?

evansb 13th Aug 2007 11:48

ZH875, about 50km northeast.

evansb 13th Aug 2007 11:51

ThreadBaron, it is Reykjavik. :ok: You have control.

Deduction more than recognition required here. More to follow, if necessary. Never got past round one previously!:hmm:

Tiger_mate 13th Aug 2007 13:01

There are military people who would not thank you for this one. I shall abstain, and suggest that 21st Century Ops not be used.

ThreadBaron 13th Aug 2007 13:27

Tigermate, apologies!

Same place different time. Nostalgia arises from the dearth of the aircraft depicted.

Dan Winterland 13th Aug 2007 14:27

Muscat, Seeb. Not too military, although I have flown both military and civil aircraft into there. (Assuming I'm correct!)

ThreadBaron 13th Aug 2007 14:54

Indeed you are, Dan. You have control.

Nimrods currently there for sorties to Afghanistan, supported by a KC 135.

Dan Winterland 13th Aug 2007 16:04

Not much of a Beadwindow as the Military ramp can be seen from the terminal.

Here's my entry. If you think it looks familiar, you could be correct. It too was taken from a Cub!

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/b...hippy/zzzz.jpg

It's just gone past midnight where I am, I'm off to bed!!!!!

I'll check the answers in about 8 hours.

Dan Winterland 14th Aug 2007 00:58

Come on chaps - it's not actually that difficult and I've given you a clue already. It's not too far away from the other 'which airfield' photo taken from a Cub. And if you were to file a flight plan to this airfield, as it doesn't have an ICAO identifier, what you have to write in the destination block would be very appropriate!

PS - looking through Pooleys may not help as this photo was taken about 20 years ago and some concrete had been removed since. And there's another hangar now.

Cubs2jets 14th Aug 2007 01:38

Must be the Bourn(e) Alternative?

jabberwok 14th Aug 2007 03:49

as it doesn't have an ICAO identifier, what you have to write in the destination block would be very appropriate!
Yes, very good. I like it..

I won't answer because I don't have a picture to post..

Background Noise 14th Aug 2007 07:15

Little Snoring

Dan Winterland 14th Aug 2007 07:50

Correct!

I once flew from Little Snoring to Sleap, and then back again. Made for a great logbook entry!

For those who don't know, if your departure or destination don't have an ICAO, you put ZZZZ in the box on the flight plan, then mention the airfield name in the addional imformation section.

I'm going back to sleap now. Background Noise, you have control.

Background Noise 14th Aug 2007 09:01

Ok - wrong time of year I guess:

Spot on - Courcheval is correct. Choice of 2 pics, this one in season. Over to you.

Here is the next Which Aerodrome...

I shall be working for the next several hours, so if anyone is 100% please carry on without me.

Cheers
