evansb's challenge
Jarvis is correct.:ok: It was the New York International Airport at Idlewild, now J.F.K. Well done.

jarvis.
Saudi, somewhere, Dharran ? Clint. |
The terrain looks like Jordan, and they have had a King or 2 over the years.
King Faisal Airbase King Hussein Airbase King Abdullah Airbase |
Saudi is too far east......Jordan is still too east but close.....

Spot on......Tiger_mate

Cropped to remove a giveaway vertical stab livery. |
Gut feeling says South Africa or Germany (Lufthansa).
So i`ll try Dusseldorf / Germany first |
No mate! Not Dusseldorf.
|
It is the South African DC4
Johanesburg (Sp?) |
Salisbury, Rhodesia ?
(Harare, Zimbabwe for the sensitive). |
Sensitive? Not many round here!
Tiger, tiger, you're burning bright. You have control! |
Rather high...

So as a clue, 'tis on an island... |
Its also a bit presumptious when I won the last one. |
Touch'e: Apologies
|
Is the aerodrome located near the Caribbean?
|
Is the aerodrome located near the Caribbean? A little bit closer... http://www3.telus.net/public/bkm600/airport2.jpg |
Freeport, Nassau Bahamas Island. ?
|
Not Freeport.
|
Lynden Pindling International Airport, New Providence, Nassau, Bahamas
|
Sigh, okay, let me try a few more brain cells, I know I've flown in and out of that place. I know I'm real close.
(And flown over it a lot more.) Edited to add, that's the place, Evan's got it. |
Indeed he has. You have control b.
And flown over it a lot more |
Thanks PaperTiger, I truly enjoyed that challenge. Here is the next aerodrome:

:hmm: Not too far from the last one by the look of it.
|
Frankfurt Rhein-Main?
Based upon a Pan Am DC4 and a neat line up of USAF? C54 in the background. Lack of airport detail means that it could be anywhere. |
I thought they were all PAA planes in the photo. MAC scheme was similar though.
|
Pardon me, but Nassau and the Bahamas are a significant distance from the Caribbean.......
|
Yes, seacue, the geographic placement has been noted.
I sent PaperTiger a PM regarding just that. Sorry, Tiger_Mate, the aerodrome is not in Germany. |
Yes, seacue, the geographic placement has been noted. https://www.cia.gov/library/publicat...k/geos/bf.html I think it's the semantic difference between the Caribbean as a region and the actual Caribbean Sea, which as you rightly say ends at the South coast of Hispaniola. Not that 800 miles or so is really that far away, global-wise. |
Perhaps the DC4 under tow is brand new. Long beach California or Oklahoma, both of which had Douglas factories?
|
Doesn't explain the Convairs though.
|
I guess not and they are PanAm also:
http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.c..._1961_39659581 How many maintenance bases, and where for Pan Am |
It is not in Long Beach, or Oklahoma.
|
It is Miami
Got there in the end!! |
Tiger_Mate is correct.:ok: It is Miami. One of the aircraft may be a PanAgra DC-6. You have control.
|
This place is not always a sleepy hollow, in fact it has a healthy resident GA population, but they were all tucked up in bed on this winters morning.
http://www.artistic.flyer.co.uk/towerpic.jpg Northern hemisphere http://www.artistic.flyer.co.uk/googleearth.jpg ATC tower is centre right |
Fairly regular visitor to that one - Sleap.
If I'm right I'll throw it open as not near a PC tomorrow.... |
The ex-wartime airfield at Sleap / Shropshire / UK it is. Many of the wartime dispersal circles still exist beneath an inch of earth/grass but can be seen with ease when in the rotary circuit.
Well done Squadgy:ok: OPEN HOUSE Ladies & gents |
