I fear this will be a hard one. More hints will follow:
http://users.erols.com/rcarpen/airp2.jpg http://users.erols.com/rcarpen/airp3.jpg Hint #1: This field is home to a feeder airline with 50 to 100 aircraft. Hint #2: FedEx flies to this airport. Hint #3: The nearest city is a bit over half the size of its namesake in Wiltshire. |
Salisbury-Ocean City Wicomico Regional Airport
Salisbury, Maryland, USA >>>>>OPEN HOUSE<<<<< |
Tiger Mate, you got it. I guess my latest hint made it too easy.
They got a grant to repave the main runway this summer. Too many weeds growing through the cracks. I don't have any other pictures right now. |
Just to fill the gap ..... but easy, I'm sure.

Aberdeen Dyce with the 'Ziggurat' tower.
|
Told you it was easy. Hot it up Talkdown!
|
Throw it open to hot it up, please.
I'm off air touring for a few days (Look out Squadgy.....)to get some pictures..........then maybe I'll learn how to load them........ Image posting: http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthr...hreadid=203481 |
Into the breach........
http://users.erols.com/rcarpen/airp93.jpg |
That's definitely hotted-up!
Vertical sun .... are we equatorial? The terminal building is ringing a bell, but not loud enough to wake the remembery!:( |
Tropical, not equatorial.
This terminal is too new to be nostalgic and thus probably not appropriate. The field has been there for long enough to excite nostalgia. http://users.erols.com/rcarpen/airp94.jpg Western hemisphere, northern hemisphere, bien sur. |
It's on an Eastern Caribbean Island. The real Caribbean.
|
Andros Island?
If so.............is the floorless station wagon taxi still in service there? The one with a child riding mechanic who fills the radiator every few miles? |
Not Andros - which I contend is not really in the Caribbean
Farther south. |
Guadeloupe. Aeroport de Pointe à Pitre?
|
The Baron is correct! PTP / TFFR Pole Caraibes airport Guadeloupe. Sorry I didn't have a picture of the old terminal which was pretty nondescript.
ThreadBaron has control. |

I left a couple of hints to start you mental processes. |
|
Two up and both down in one!:* Must try harder next time.
|
|
Amsterdam Sciphol.
|
Amsterdam Schiphol Airport it is:
The Italian Air Force DC9 was a complete red herring, as was the file name. Dan Winterland has control :D |

Not much of the airfield visible, but a real big clue! |
Ascension Island?
..if not, a view of Gib that I am not familiar with |
I go for that too Dan. Maybe because I THINK I see a Victor with 'drag device.'
|
Not ASI or GIB, Victors didn't go to GIB - the runway was too short!
It was a regular haunt for the Victor, subsequently re-named after a man who was murdered shortly after landing here! Anyone who has flown into this airport will recognise the mountain, it's about the only thing you see from the terminal. |
Jumping in here...is it Cape Town ??
|
Rarotonga ,Cook Islands
|
Two tigers ... and now two dogs! What's goin on?
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1.../Raratonga.jpg Seems like a good shout, sabre, but who was Mr Raratonga!:} |
Raraotonga is situated in the Cook Island and was discovered by Captaiin Cook. He was later murdered in Hawai,
Sabredog refers to the F-86D. No canine connection. |
Looks Mediterranean to me - Suda on Crete?
SD |
Somewhere in Turkey and something to do with the Gulf?
|
Saab and Phileas are getting warmer. The sea behind me as I took the picure was the Med.
Another big clue was 'murder'! |
Just done a Wikipaedia check. It's actually named after two murdered people!
|
Here's another clue. LCN has two very different meanings at this airport! Although strictly speaking, in one of the meanings the 'L' is superfluous....
Been there a few times, haven't we Dan! |
Palermo International Airport (IATA: PMO, ICAO: LICJ), also known as Falcone-Borsellino Airport and Punta Raisi Airport
|
Correct.
Just a few time BEagle! The Azzolini Beach Hotel, great pizzas, horrible red wine headaches. All fond memories. Was Punte Raisi airport, renamed Falcone - Borsellino airport after the two judges who were murdered by the Mafia within a month of each other while driving from the airport to Palermo city. They got Falcone with a bomb which left a crater that cut off all six lanes of the Autostrada. The new terminal took 12 years to complete, it was left half done for 10 years as the Mafia had bled the money away in extorsion. Mr TM, you have the con. But no obscure heli landing sites! |
No obscure heli landing sites! Would I do that to you?
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...r/IMGP9525.jpg http://www.artistic.flyer.co.uk/alps.jpg |
I can see two heli pads!
|
I can see two heli pads! http://www.artistic.flyer.co.uk/approach.jpg ATC do not like you to make a straight in approach at this airfield. |
Is that Oban?
