I think I recognise one of the cabbages. Is it Altehru airfield, near Sangmo-ri, on Cheju-do, South Korea?
Truly, some of us (thank you Google, 'Japanese airfield shelters') have too much time on our hands. :) Open House if correct. |
All kale to you D 120A for rooting it out! We are talking the same place although the spelling I have for it is Alddeureu. Built by forced labour and used by Japanese AF bombers as a base to bomb Nanking and Shanghai in 1937.
Open house. |

"I said, 'Left hand down a bit, Mr. Phillips!'"
Sorry , I couldn't resist the Navy Lark joke. Not a clue where it is other than somewhere tropical. |
Is it Mwanza on (or in) Lake Vic?
DH |
Yup, have a friend who's fishing boat has aircraft quality metal flooring and some v comfy seats! Spent a v happy 3 years flying out of there, well worth a visit, especially if u like to fish! V big airport, as seen by baggage collection area!

Surely this is Entebbe (or just short of the runway!)
Edit: Right lake, ... wrong airport - agree with Mwanza. |
It is indeed Mwanza, Tanzania, on the south shore of Lake Victoria. CathayBrat confirmed the location. We are awaiting Double Hydco's aerodrome challenge.
|
So what's the history of the wet undershoot?
|
Hi Simon!
aviation-safety.net/database has a full report. No fatalities. After holding for electrical power to be restored to the airport, the TAAT 707 freighter commenced an unstabilised approach resulting in the aircraft bouncing 2 or 3 times and came to rest in the lake. Irony was the aircraft was to pick up a load of fish. Bri |
Sorry for the delay...work got in the way of pprune. This is my (Mrs DH's really) first attempt at attaching a pic.....hope it works!

I know it is not Cairns. These hangers were not there this morning.
|
Snow and huge hangars; somewhere in Canada or possibly Alaska?(That prime mover on the bowser looks American)
|
Goose Bay.
|
Double Hydco's challenge.
Gander perhaps?
Mel |
VERY wild guess; Dutch Harbour
|
Well it's not Belfast so could be Seattle.
|
Ok, haven't played for some time, but I'd guess(wildly)somewhere in the UK ooop north.
It appears to be a Heavylift Belfast - I dunno, Prestwick??? |
While awaiting Double Hydco's reply, I'd have to say LFT is probably correct. A colleague of mine used to work there, and he says it sure looks like Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador, Canada.
|
Double Hydco's challenge.
I agree with Bri, LFT is definitely correct. Goose Bay
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c6..._Goose_Bay.jpg Mel |
Yep, it is Goose Bay. Well done LFT!
Had to put the Belfast in the RAF hangar for the night, because it was -37 degrees C outside, and a balmy -14 degrees inside! All yours LFT..... DH |
Thanks DH, I'll post another challenge ASAP.
|
Sorry for the delay - Here's the next "Which Aerodrome" -

Gaydon, Warwickshire.
|
Oh well, that didn't last long, well done Fishtailed, over to you :ok:
|
Thanks, LFT, the experimental surface gave it away, didn't look aviation related.
Try this one- http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...ti252003-1.jpg |
Bristol Lulsgate??
|
Inskip, aka HMS Nightjar?
|
Barford St John or Croughton?
Damn just looked at Flashearth; it Is Inskip isn't it!! |
I'm away for the next few days. If I'm right with Inskip . . .
OPEN HOUSE! |
Formerly RNAS Inskip it is Upyer RRRs
Open House. |
This is an easy one; the airfield may have been posted before but not this view of it. Hope this is OK. (That's me in the lhs; almost on the centreline!)
