Thanks RETDPI I have always been here in the background. Here is a nice easy one.

Go on, give us a clue.
You said easy! Only if youv'e been there. |
Sorry dixi188 I honestly thought this would go within minutes. A clue, well they get a lot of cruise ships visiting the area as well as holiday flights.
|
Singapore Changi
OOPS! That's not right. C2J |
George town, Grand Cayman!

Mel |
This my first try at posting a picture, hope it works!
http://s353.photobucket.com/albums/r...une2008006.jpg This has been done before but it was a very old photo so I hope its allowed. (also its the only airport on my laptop) Too easy I expect. (sorry the photo is so small, I still have a bit to learn about hosting) |
Zurich!
Open House if correct.... |
|
Henderson, Nev.
|
Not Henderson, but I flew from there to here.
|
Is that some of those twin Otters with the big scenic windows I see?
Grand Canyon Airport KGCN? |
Not KGCN Grand Canyon Airport, but close.
|
Gray Mountain
|
Grand Canyon West, K1G4, on the Hualapai Indian Reservation.
|
"evansb" is correct.

Thank you. I visited 1G4 in July, OAT 43C (110F). Here is the next mystery aerodrome:

I was going to say 'haven't a clue' but there are some pointers there,
The landscape looks glaciated and relatively treeless, the trees in the foreground are conifers, so I'd say relatively 'northern' (or southern) continental, with cold winters. The lake/river has a milky sheen so perhaps glacial meltwaters flow in. Mining activity with stilling ponds at the far side of the lake. Possibly some sort of quay at the water's edge for loading of ore? Oil storage facility in the near foreground, no company logos, so maybe a government facility. Older? short runway parallel to the apron and later main runway parallel to the lake/river. My money's on somewhere in Canada/US. |
Don`t forget the `interesting` scrapyard, and the golf course....!
|
Depends upon your definition of Central Canada (Westerners claim title to all lands west of the Ontario/Manitoba boundary) but nowhere in 'Central' Canada has topography similar to the above, that I can recall.
|
There is no doubt: Kamloops, BC, Canada (CYKA).
A top spot in Canada for fishing in the spring and fall, golf in the summer, and skiing in the winter. I first flew into Kamloops in May 1971! The tower had only been open for a year or so and was still a temporary cab perched on top of what looked like a high-voltage electricity transmission tower. Where are those old black and white photos? . . . Grizz |
grizzled is correct. Kamloops, (CYKA), British Columbia, located in south-central B.C., at the confluence of two branches of the Thompson River, and Kamloops Lake. You have control.
|
Thanks! Give me an hour to go through some pix and upload a goodie!
Grizz |
Open House
OK . . I realised I shouldn't post a pick right now as I'm currently on the opposite side of the earth from evansb (and the rest of you sods lucky enough to be somewhere in the western portion of North America). Which means -- what with sleep and work -- I won't be ppruning for the next 20 hours or so.
OPEN HOUSE it is! grizz |
|
No takers ?
OK then, it looks like Texas to me :} |
Thanks PT, I was beginning to wonder if it was too tricky.
It isn't Texas or the USA: pretty much 180 out there. Although there is a hint of it in LAS. |
I'll take one of my wild guesses at Greenham Common!
|
Its not Greenham, it looks more like somewhere in Africa or the Far East. I will take a stab at Colombo
|
a hint of it in LAS |
Further east than the Pyramids.
|
How about Novosibirsk?
|
If I knew where it was I would say No, not Novobrisk: tad warmer climes than anywhere in Russia but you are on the right road.......2nd clue.
1st clue was It isn't Texas or the USA: pretty much 180 out there. Although there is a hint of it in LAS. |
Urumqui, China?
C2j |
Mandalay, given the clue?
|
DavidsOffice, 10 out of 10, Gold Star, big tick VG. Over to you.
The new Mandalay International which replaced the old airport, formerly used by the RAF many years ago. The civil terminal is on the north western side and the ramp on the south east (foreground) is the military ramp where an occasional MiG would appear. The terminal can cater for 6 widebodies at a time, but the largest visitor is the ORBIS DC 10. |
Open house!
I have some fots but not in the office. |
Try this until something harder comes along...

I don't have a clue where it is (presumably USA) but it's a nice nostalgia picture.
|
Hmmm...
Northwest Orient DC-3, Convair 240/340 on the wall showing the new equipment that the Municipal Airport might eventually aspire to seeing, sparse vegetation and sparsely inhabited, foothills terrain. For a real SWAG, how about Boise, Idaho?? |
