Nicosia it is. Taken Jan 1971 from Aero Club of Lebanon's C172 OD-APE.

Thanks olympus, err - OK, Open House! ;)
Oh dear! Have I misunderstood how this works? I'm happy to delete my last offering to permit Spekesoftly to go.
No worries, it's past my bedtime anyway, so please carry on. :ok:
Is it Moroni, the base of Air Comores.
I hate it when people do this - Mombasa? But I'll be away for long w/e so open house if correct.
The terrain is similar to that around Tananarive, Madagascar.
Let me make the list even longer with Teneriffe North. Keith.
I'm with Background Noise on Mombasa. As Air Comores apparently only had the one F27 which had a French registration about 1980 before being reregistered locally, this photo I found is I suggest taken from a similar viewpoint but much more recently:
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...er/6454376.jpg Perhaps you would like to confirm (or perhaps otherwise) Olympus? |
Yes, Mombasa it is. Photo taken sometime in 1980 just before I flew to Moroni on that FK27.

Afraid not, AAO, too far east.

Tarbes, france?
Long shot...is that a starfighter on a stick in the distance?
And above that possible starfighter, would that be a French flag?
Looks indeed like a Starfighter - Italian Flag?????
Possibly a Jaguar between the buildings ? below the "starfighter" nose ???
Keith. |
......or an AMX ? :E

Verona, Villafranca Air Base, Italy?
I'll let my choice stand for now but having had a look at all the F-104's on poles in Italy listed here: http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?im...GB212%26sa%3DN ..I'm not so sure! Later Very odd when looking at Verona Villafranca with MS Live Search Maps, MS seem to have gone all coy with this Italian airfield and chopped it in half and overlaid the image with pseudo fields as seen here: http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...ca-Verona1.jpg Meanwhile details are still available with Google Earth as here: http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...na2-Google.jpg Security taken to extremes? |
Best I can come up with is Caselle, Turin.
nacluv has it, the Allennia part of Casselle, Turin. Carry on.
Yay! I got one! Thanks, Fishtailed. I'd got the F104 on the pole, but I have to say that credit is due to warmtoast for the steer in the right direction. I suspect I was merely the first one to get the post in.
Incidentally, Norwich, if you look at the site in Google Earth, that Jaguar or whatever is it is 'still' there. You can't see the F104 however as there is some whiteout evident where it should be. I don't see this one on the list... http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...cluv/Where.jpg Shouldn't pose too much of a problem? |
Stanley FI?

Right first time! Didn't think it would last too long.
Chevvron - you have control... |
The Landrover and colour of the building rather gave it away.
