Nicosia it is. Taken Jan 1971 from Aero Club of Lebanon's C172 OD-APE.

Try this one:-

Thanks olympus, err - OK, Open House! ;)

olympus 2nd Sep 2008 21:21

Oh dear! Have I misunderstood how this works? I'm happy to delete my last offering to permit Spekesoftly to go.

spekesoftly 2nd Sep 2008 21:23

No worries, it's past my bedtime anyway, so please carry on. :ok:

Fishtailed 4th Sep 2008 12:05

Is it Moroni, the base of Air Comores.

Background Noise 4th Sep 2008 12:18

I hate it when people do this - Mombasa? But I'll be away for long w/e so open house if correct.

twochai 4th Sep 2008 17:04

The terrain is similar to that around Tananarive, Madagascar.

norwich 4th Sep 2008 21:01

Let me make the list even longer with Teneriffe North. Keith.

Duckbutt 5th Sep 2008 09:26

I'm with Background Noise on Mombasa. As Air Comores apparently only had the one F27 which had a French registration about 1980 before being reregistered locally, this photo I found is I suggest taken from a similar viewpoint but much more recently:

Perhaps you would like to confirm (or perhaps otherwise) Olympus?

olympus 5th Sep 2008 11:48

Yes, Mombasa it is. Photo taken sometime in 1980 just before I flew to Moroni on that FK27.

OPEN HOUSE

Fishtailed 5th Sep 2008 12:10

twochai 6th Sep 2008 17:14

Tarbes, france?

Bigt 6th Sep 2008 17:26

Long shot...is that a starfighter on a stick in the distance?

Moira 6th Sep 2008 18:27

And above that possible starfighter, would that be a French flag?

RETDPI 6th Sep 2008 18:51

Looks indeed like a Starfighter - Italian Flag?????

norwich 6th Sep 2008 19:09

Possibly a Jaguar between the buildings ? below the "starfighter" nose ???
Keith.

RETDPI 6th Sep 2008 19:28

......or an AMX ? :E

Warmtoast 6th Sep 2008 20:55

Verona, Villafranca Air Base, Italy?

I'll let my choice stand for now but having had a look at all the F-104's on poles in Italy listed here:

http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?im...GB212%26sa%3DN

..I'm not so sure!

Later

Very odd when looking at Verona Villafranca with MS Live Search Maps, MS seem to have gone all coy with this Italian airfield and chopped it in half and overlaid the image with pseudo fields as seen here:

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...ca-Verona1.jpg

Meanwhile details are still available with Google Earth as here:

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...na2-Google.jpg

Security taken to extremes?

nacluv 7th Sep 2008 09:35

Best I can come up with is Caselle, Turin.

Fishtailed 7th Sep 2008 10:28

nacluv has it, the Allennia part of Casselle, Turin. Carry on.

nacluv 7th Sep 2008 11:54

Yay! I got one! Thanks, Fishtailed. I'd got the F104 on the pole, but I have to say that credit is due to warmtoast for the steer in the right direction. I suspect I was merely the first one to get the post in.

Incidentally, Norwich, if you look at the site in Google Earth, that Jaguar or whatever is it is 'still' there. You can't see the F104 however as there is some whiteout evident where it should be.

I don't see this one on the list...
http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...cluv/Where.jpg

Shouldn't pose too much of a problem?

chevvron 8th Sep 2008 10:44

Stanley FI?

nacluv 8th Sep 2008 13:04

Right first time! Didn't think it would last too long.

Chevvron - you have control...

chevvron 8th Sep 2008 13:16

The Landrover and colour of the building rather gave it away.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOpen House

Double Hydco 8th Sep 2008 16:31
