Cleveland Hopkins?
Sorry S'land, not Cleveland, but it is in the United States.
OK. How about Mitchell Field, New York?
Sorry, not in New York State. The mystery airport is truly 'historic'.
Meigs Field, Chicago ?
Roosevelt field, Long Island.
Sorry, not Meigs Field, Chicago. Like Meigs Field, the mystery airport is no longer in operation.
Harvard, Massachusetts.
Curtiss-Reynolds Airport, Illinois?
Sorry, not in Massachusetts, nor Illinois.
Could it be one of the airfields in St Louis Missouri, Lambert field?
Not sure of the name of the field, maybe patco, PA. Is that not the building they signed the decleration of independance in the background?
Sorry, not St. Louis, Missouri.
Good eye CathayBrat. The building is a replica of Independence Hall, but the airport is not located in Pennsylvania. |
Norkolk, Virginia.
Sorry, not Norfolk, Virginia. Here is a view of the same airport from the opposite direction:

Dearborn, Michigan.
Fishtailed is correct. It is Ford Airport, Dearborn, Michigan. Then, as now, home to Henry Ford's historic Greenfield Village Museum. The photos portray the numerous aircraft taking part in one of several Ford Air Tours, which took place in the 1930s. You have control.

Thanks evansb, that was a good 'un, wouldn't have got it without the clue from Cathay Brat, though.
Next one- http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...ailed/ap03.jpg |
Hmmm.... Hedge around the terminal airside, Piper trainers and an UTVA-75 parked on the ramp, hills WNW, probably two or three Mig-21's parked out o sight behind the treeline in the distance?
Looks like Ljubljana Airport, Slovenia, possibly 15 years ago?? |
Sounded convincing, twochai, but not Ljubljana.
Guessing but the outline of the hill in the backgroung rings some bells. Could this just possibly be on a certain island somehwre in the Pacific?
Not on an island in the Pacific.
Would that be a Portugese flag in the front right?
Like somewhere on the Azores? Pico? |
I hadn’t seen a flag, but would be surprised if it was Portugese.
I hadn’t seen a flag, but would be surprised if it was Portugese. Cameroon, Italy, Mali,Mexico,Senegal. Doesn't look African to me, so Italy or Mexico. Italy I think. |
PaperTiger, I think you might be right ...
Torino Aeritalia airport? |
By Jove, I think she's got it:

Umtali (Mutare), Southern Rhodesia (Zimbabwe)
Not Umtali/Mutare, sorry
Central African Airways Vickers Viking 1B, at Ndola, Zambia, (Northern Rhodesia) late 1940s?
Aah, you're way to good at this ...
Ndola airport it is! |
Thanks Moira. Here is the next aerodrome challenge:

Might it be Bankstown?
Sorry, not Bankstown.
Toronto Downsview, the former DeHavilland Canada Factory, now the Toronto Aerospace Museum?
The DHC plant at Downsview, Ontario is correct.:ok: S'land has control.
Thank you Bri. It is surprising how little the actual building has changed over the years (from above that is).
