S'land 17th Aug 2008 17:37

Cleveland Hopkins?

evansb 17th Aug 2008 19:19

Sorry S'land, not Cleveland, but it is in the United States.

S'land 17th Aug 2008 23:14

OK. How about Mitchell Field, New York?

evansb 17th Aug 2008 23:28

Sorry, not in New York State. The mystery airport is truly 'historic'.

G-ARZG 18th Aug 2008 11:07

Meigs Field, Chicago ?

Fishtailed 18th Aug 2008 11:23

Roosevelt field, Long Island.

evansb 18th Aug 2008 11:48

Sorry, not Meigs Field, Chicago. Like Meigs Field, the mystery airport is no longer in operation.

Fishtailed 18th Aug 2008 12:30

Harvard, Massachusetts.

S'land 18th Aug 2008 13:16

Curtiss-Reynolds Airport, Illinois?

evansb 18th Aug 2008 14:35

Sorry, not in Massachusetts, nor Illinois.

Fishtailed 19th Aug 2008 08:58

Could it be one of the airfields in St Louis Missouri, Lambert field?

CathayBrat 19th Aug 2008 10:33

Not sure of the name of the field, maybe patco, PA. Is that not the building they signed the decleration of independance in the background?

evansb 19th Aug 2008 11:46

Sorry, not St. Louis, Missouri.

Good eye CathayBrat. The building is a replica of Independence Hall, but the airport is not located in Pennsylvania.

Fishtailed 19th Aug 2008 12:21

Norkolk, Virginia.

evansb 19th Aug 2008 12:25

Sorry, not Norfolk, Virginia. Here is a view of the same airport from the opposite direction:

Fishtailed 19th Aug 2008 12:34

Dearborn, Michigan.

evansb 19th Aug 2008 12:45

Fishtailed is correct. It is Ford Airport, Dearborn, Michigan. Then, as now, home to Henry Ford's historic Greenfield Village Museum. The photos portray the numerous aircraft taking part in one of several Ford Air Tours, which took place in the 1930s. You have control.

Fishtailed 19th Aug 2008 12:55

Thanks evansb, that was a good 'un, wouldn't have got it without the clue from Cathay Brat, though.

twochai 19th Aug 2008 14:13

Hmmm.... Hedge around the terminal airside, Piper trainers and an UTVA-75 parked on the ramp, hills WNW, probably two or three Mig-21's parked out o sight behind the treeline in the distance?

Looks like Ljubljana Airport, Slovenia, possibly 15 years ago??

Fishtailed 19th Aug 2008 15:44

Sounded convincing, twochai, but not Ljubljana.

larssnowpharter 19th Aug 2008 16:04

Guessing but the outline of the hill in the backgroung rings some bells. Could this just possibly be on a certain island somehwre in the Pacific?

Fishtailed 19th Aug 2008 16:09

Not on an island in the Pacific.

Moira 20th Aug 2008 12:50

Would that be a Portugese flag in the front right?
Like somewhere on the Azores? Pico?

Fishtailed 20th Aug 2008 15:28

I hadn’t seen a flag, but would be surprised if it was Portugese.

PaperTiger 20th Aug 2008 15:56

I hadn’t seen a flag, but would be surprised if it was Portugese.
Bottom right, limp. Looks to be green at the hoist and red at the fly, can't see the middle stripe (if any).
Cameroon, Italy, Mali,Mexico,Senegal. Doesn't look African to me, so Italy or Mexico. Italy I think.

Moira 20th Aug 2008 18:59

PaperTiger, I think you might be right ...
Torino Aeritalia airport?

PaperTiger 20th Aug 2008 19:12

By Jove, I think she's got it:

Fishtailed 20th Aug 2008 22:09

Moira 21st Aug 2008 07:23

Moira 21st Aug 2008 09:21

Not Umtali/Mutare, sorry

evansb 21st Aug 2008 12:37

Central African Airways Vickers Viking 1B, at Ndola, Zambia, (Northern Rhodesia) late 1940s?

Moira 21st Aug 2008 18:39

Aah, you're way to good at this ...
Ndola airport it is!

evansb 21st Aug 2008 19:19

Thanks Moira. Here is the next aerodrome challenge:
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r.../WAD080821.jpg

aviate1138 21st Aug 2008 19:30

evansb 21st Aug 2008 20:23

Sorry, not Bankstown.

S'land 21st Aug 2008 21:00

Toronto Downsview, the former DeHavilland Canada Factory, now the Toronto Aerospace Museum?

evansb 21st Aug 2008 21:05

The DHC plant at Downsview, Ontario is correct.:ok: S'land has control.

S'land 21st Aug 2008 21:23

Thank you Bri. It is surprising how little the actual building has changed over the years (from above that is).
