Douglas Bolo/Digby?

pigboat 15th Dec 2005 20:13

An American-built twin but not Douglas, Beech, Boeing or Lockheed. :E

barit1 15th Dec 2005 22:45

I'm glad cringe stepped up to the plate.

The radio in the lower right looks like a postwar Lear maybe - but otherwise not a clue.

pigboat 16th Dec 2005 02:03

Another couple of clues. Aircraft looks like a L-10A/L-12 or B-18. Built between 1935 and 1940.

CoodaShooda 16th Dec 2005 02:43

Are the floral seat cushions a hint? :)

MReyn24050 16th Dec 2005 07:15

Possibly the Barkley Grew T8P1

pigboat 16th Dec 2005 13:06

Over to you MR.

It is indeed the Barkley-Grow T8P-1.

Interesting to note that the float plane version had the little dorsal fin between the vertical stabs. The land/ski plane version didn't have that.

For those who have read Ernie Gann's "Fate Is The Hunter." In the incident where O'Connor forced landed a C-87 on a lake in northern Quebec, this was the first airplane to land at their location. At the time it belonged to Canadian Airways.

Cooda, dunno about the floral seat cushions. Looks like the local house of ill-repute had some curtain material left over from a redecorating project. ;) I believe that cockpit photo is from CF-BQM. A friend flew that airplane as late as 1973, on floats out of Schefferville, Quebec. At the end of the float season it went to a museum someplace out west, either Winnipeg or Calgary.

Thank you Pigboat

Compared to yours this is another easy one I am afraid

Fiesler Storch?

MReyn24050 16th Dec 2005 13:57

forget

No. Not a Fiesler Storch

barit1 16th Dec 2005 15:10

perhaps a (moderized) Fairchild FC-somethingorother?

Tim Inder 16th Dec 2005 15:19

Morane-Sauliner MS 500? - radial engine visible...

If so, someone else post the next challenge, I'm off for the weekend!

Mr_Grubby 16th Dec 2005 16:04

Thrush Commander ???

MReyn24050 16th Dec 2005 22:16

No, not a Morane-Sauliner MS 500 or Thrush Commander. Barit was heading in the right direction.

Fairchild 82?

MReyn24050 17th Dec 2005 05:59

Pigboat

It is a Fairchild but not the 82.

pigboat 17th Dec 2005 15:55

Fairchild FC-2W-1?
What stumps me is the transponder down at the bottom of the panel. Means the thing is flying somewhere.

MReyn24050 17th Dec 2005 20:19

Pigboat

Not the one in the photograph. Tom and Kathy Dixon of California may be able to help. Sorry not to have replied before but the Christmas shopping has had to be done.

And here they are. Pigboat was close enough.

Fairchild 71

Forget

Thank you for your input. I will bow to your better knowledge. I will admit that I am not that well up on the Fairchild range and it would appear that the Fairchild 71 and FC-2W-1 are not that disimilar. No doubt some puritan will put me right.
So Pigboat it must be your shout.
Mel
