Is it a glider ?

Clint.

ORAC 8th Dec 2005 08:19

Not a glider, but unpowered in one of it's flight regimes.

MReyn24050 8th Dec 2005 09:08

Initial mock up for the Space Shuttle flight deck?

ORAC 8th Dec 2005 09:11

Nope, nothing to do with the Shuttle, and not a mock up.

Instrument panel. Elevation might give a clue....

forget 8th Dec 2005 09:25

That's got to be Eddy the Eagle in the left hand seat!

ORAC 8th Dec 2005 09:27

Nope, doesn't use a ski jump.... :p

MReyn24050 8th Dec 2005 10:51

Then if not a mock up then possibly a simulator? Judging by your last picture there appears to be a guy standing in front of the instrument console also to the left appears to be people at a display stand some feet below the cockpit. Also no harness or lap straps on the crew seats.

ORAC 8th Dec 2005 11:02

I think it's the real thing. Photo shoot during a PR event for the sponsors in the hangar. One of the backers was Jerry Pournelle the Sci-Fi author who took a some of the shots.

Here's the sim. Monitor provides the electronic part of the instrument panel.

here's a post flight photo.

forget 8th Dec 2005 11:31

Well - what is it???

MReyn24050 8th Dec 2005 12:13

The mind boggles! Rev counter, Altitude Indicator, would appear twin engined, attitude indicator, slip indicator, two crew seats yet the whole thing looks as though it is built into the side of a rocket about 15 feet off the ground and not stressed for high g loads. Baffled is the word.

OK it is a Hypobaric Chamber for testing aircrew reactions to lack of oxygen?

cringe 8th Dec 2005 12:33

Rotary rocket:

Mignet Pou du Ciel ?

Clint.

cringe 8th Dec 2005 19:08

Nope, not a Pou du Ciel. The aircraft was produced mainly in the 1920s and had a military use. A replica on the above photo.

cringe 9th Dec 2005 07:58

Biplane with a rotary engine. One survivor left in a museum; the replica takes part in airshows.
