Which Aerodrome Mk IV
Brilliant ! Dear me - Winter and the grass needs mowing. I'll probably be taken out by a Tractor when I do the verge. So if you hear nothing you will know why.

There seems to be some confusion in the records but I think it is a Hawk trainer. Departed Ramsgate and crashed in the sea killing the pilot Edmund Betts.
The grave is in Margate cemetery.

Damn! I thought that flag looked familiar.
I lived in Ramsgate for a while as a kid and my first flight was a 7/6d joy ride in a Dragon Rapide from the late-lamented Ramsgate Airport.

Ramsgate Airport's Short Scion. This photograph a consolation prize for Allan Lupton - who had a good sniff......

I'm afraid I''ve been troo busy to get something together. Only fair to declare Open House in the interests of keeping things moving. Must make sure I have got something to hand!
Hmmm - on an island or a peninsular, beach to "NW", salt flats to east - possibly a west cost location in the UK or NW Europe, Railway from "SW" ends at dead stop station west of airfield - looks like a holiday line - another railway from the north doesn't seem to go past the airfield and connect with the "passenger" line
Sort of Blackpool-ish spot? (but it isn't Blackpool)
Is North to the top??
I keep thinking Scheveningen

Hi Asturias and OUAQUKGF Ops.
OUA is on the right lines with the holiday angle - this is still a popular holiday spot, and Asturias is correct to say it's in Germany.
Edited to add: as far as I can make out, the photo is tilted about 45 degrees off North, so what looks like North on the pic is actually about 315 degrees. And when OUA talks of an island or a peninsula, it's actually a bit of both...
A lot of clues there, I fear this won't last long now!

For the sake of history it was the other way round - I do holidays, OUA does countries.............

Spot on I12, it is indeed Sylt. Started out as a civilian airport as early as 1919, then a WW2 Luftwaffe base, then taken over by the RAF until the 1960's when it again became the civilian airport it is now. My uncle was stationed there on his national service in the late 50's. I'm visiting there, new COVID variants permitting, in May. Looking forward to having a nose around his old haunts.
Haha, apologies for that.
