YES ! And Mr. G. has it !

Allied military training there is no longer, but the airport is used a lot during the summer "extreme athletics" week at Voss.

Take it away !

Cheers,

Tom

Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport ? If so, the distinctive tower and BE's 146 helped.

Cheers,

Tom

OK, Clint - this one may be a little more obscure, so I'll start off with a hint: Early morning, ILS freq = 109.5.

(BTW, feeling better?)

Cheers,

Tom

Well, we seem to have stalled a bit with this one.

Can I start the ball rolling by suggesting Northern Hemisphere not Southern ?

Yes sycamore, I agree.

If it is Northern Hem. I was going to suggest France or Holland.

Sorry folks, I've been away and a bit remiss.

Go "West" young men, go far, far west.

I did say it would be a bit obscure. Maybe this will help: The airplane shown departing the aerodrome was photographed just north of the field like this:

Although still perhaps a little rocky, there are clues in the picture.

Cheers,

Tom

Fort Collins/Loveland Municipal, (KFNL), Colorado. Elev. 5015 ft. Looks like the Cessna 182 is climbing off runway 33. It also appears the short (2,273 ft.), and narrow (40 ft.) crosswind runway 6-24 is no longer extant since my last visit in an Ercoupe back in the day. The runway's former location is faintly visible in the departing C182's three o'clock position.

bri beat me to it by two minutes.

It looks like it was setting up to be a good "wave" day.

tt, tell us more about the C182 and its camera.

evansb, right on target ! You got it !

BTW, 6 - 24 (2270 x 40 ft, asphalt) is still in use - not the faint part you mention at my 3 between RWY 33 and the taxiway, but the part that extends east from there.

That's actually me in the 182Q in both pictures. Was out doing some flight test work - by the afternoon, the winds were howling out of the west, so I was very happy to still have RWY 24 available. Only used about a fourth of it - did I say windy?

6/24 is also used as a taxiway for access to the east airport facilities (not in the pix).

Your turn. Take it away !

Cheers,

Tom

....It looks like it was setting up to be a good "wave" day...
India Four Two, how very perceptive of you - I wrote my note about the afternoon winds above before I read your comments. I can tell you that the rest of Colorado and all of Wyoming wasn't much better - not the best day for recording flight test data.

....tt, tell us more about the C182 and its camera.
Was a bunch of years ago now - was actually my first airplane, subsequently sold to the electro optics company that made the camera payload (in this case a long range, daylight surveillance cam - but they later developed much more sophisticated payloads with all kinds of neat "spook" stuff in 'em. Several 182 and other fixed wing platforms are now certified and still out there doing "special mission" work.

The pod on the belly is a GPS steered directional antenna for sending real-time imagery - developed from what started in my garage back in the '80s. Ah, those were fun times, but the fishin's better in Norway.

Cheers,

Tom

Thanks Tom. Does the Skylane handle okay with all that hardware hanging on it? I thought that was an "Enviropod" beneath the fuselage. Here is the next mystery aerodrome:

Just a stab in the dark: Downsview, Ontario ? If not, it still looks a lot like an aerospace manufacturing plant, eh?

....Does the Skylane handle okay with all that hardware hanging on it? ? I thought that was an "Enviropod" beneath the fuselage.....
Surprisingly, aside from a small reduction in cruise airspeed and a little bit in climb, no ill effects at all, no asymmetric handling issues.

You'll most often see the "Skypod" on news media helicopters worldwide.

Cheers,

Tom

Thanks evansb. Will be coming up with an easy peasy one shortly.

Unfortunately the two easy ones have already been done.........

So here is an airfield that might be a little harder - or not....... 1943 vintage

Here is a later pic

A clue.

Seaward runway had FIDO fitted. Remains were still visible in '78 when I last visited.
