There are 322 islands in Fiji and even though I lived there for 15 years, I have not been to this one, so, if you let me guess it may be either Gau or Lakeba ? -

This airfield serves the Islands main town which is 22km away.
The Island was founded by traders and settlers as early as 1830. It was the first permament European settlement in the Pacific islands.

Yes - it's Mangalore - with the E
Used during the post war years as a diversion airport for Melbourne -
Diversions due to fog.

Mangalore was the name given to the original station (farm) in the area held by Joseph and John Anderson in 1838. John was serving at the time at Mangalore, India, in the British Army, and hence the station was called Mangalore by his brother Joseph, who was also ex British Army.
I seem to have been hogging the thread a lot recently, so open house.
